COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado (CNN) -- A Colorado Springs megachurch instituted security precautions after a shooting at a Denver area mission center earlier Sunday, saving "hundreds of lives" at the New Life Church, senior Pastor Brady Boyd said Monday. A New Life parishioner acting as a security guard shot and killed a gunman who entered the church Sunday afternoon after he had gotten no more than 50 feet inside the building, Boyd said.... Boyd said the female security guard was a hero in preventing further bloodshed, rushing to confront the gunman just inside the church. "She probably saved over a hundred...

Don't worry, be happy: If you're a Republican, those words should be easy to follow. A roundup of Gallup health polls over the past four years finds that Republicans are far more likely than Democrats to report having excellent mental health. The survey found that 58 percent of Republicans polled reported having excellent mental health. Only 38 percent of Democrats and 43 percent of Independents reported the same. The study concluded it was unclear why there was such a strong correlation, but the relationship between party affiliation and mental health was virtually constant even within categories of income, age, gender...

What God Has Joined What does the Bible really teach about divorce? David Instone-Brewer I was being interviewed for what would be my first church pastorate, and I was nervous and unsure what to expect. The twelve deacons sat in a row in front of me and took turns asking questions, which I answered as clearly as I could. All went smoothly until they posed this question: "What is your position on divorce and remarriage? Would you remarry a divorcée or divorced man?" I didn't know if this was a trick question or an honest one. There might have been...

The Democrats are skillful in grabbing political capital whenever conservative-leaning politicians cut into the amount of money Americans hand over to the government. They call this "tax cuts for the rich." Well, I think it's time that WE started pointing out, in clear "marketing-type" terms and phraseology, what the LIBERALS are about. A lot of what they're talking about now (as I understand it) basically amounts to expensive healthcare handouts for the rich. Let's call a spade a spade. Too often we have LOST the public debate simply because liberals understand how to package a concept in marketing language. So,...

Over the last few months, I've run into quite a few other Freepers who are either unemployed or underemployed, and generally going through majorly tough times in this economy. So I'm starting this thread as a "watering hole" for all of us here who, like me, are currently living on the edge financially and job-wise. Of course, you don't have to be in dire straights to join in the discussion. You can simply be interested in those of us who are. In fact, since one useful function of this thread can be to pass on job-hunting tips or maybe even...

"Gigli," the new Ben Affleck / Jennifer Lopez appears set to make movie history as one of the worst movies of recent years. The film currently appears at # 2 on IMDB's list of the 100 worst films of all time, displacing even the god-awful "Manos -- the Hands of Fate," which has enjoyed a fairly long run as the worst film ever made. A film this bad, however, can be terrific entertainment -- especially when you read some of the reviews of others who have plopped down their money to see the turkey: Viewer reviews at And for...

FELLOW MISSOURI CITIZENS: As you may know, a very highly-refined CCW bill passed both houses of the Missouri legislature earlier this year, against threats by Governor "One-Term Bob" Holden to veto it. To date, he has not done so. However, he must shortly take action on the bill one way or another, or it will pass into law. According to the Governor's office, he has only until July 14th to veto it. Of course, action on his part could come at any time. IT'S MAJOR CRUNCH TIME. IT'S TIME FOR GOV. HOLDEN TO HEAR FROM YOU AND ALL IN MISSOURI...
  • Has Hillary's book of lies already peaked?

Looks like Hillary's book may have already peaked? It's dropped from #2 to #3 sales rank on, and from #2 to #166 at Amazon still ranks it well ahead of Ann Coulter's new book Treason, but the Barnes & Noble site has them almost even. My guess about this work of fiction is that its sales are largely due to media hype. Once that goes away (yes, I know the media loves Hitlery but people are going to get sick of it soon), I bet this thing drops like a rock.

Years go by, and the abortion struggle rages on. I would like to suggest that the following doctrine is a basis for an uneasy resolution to the political conflict; one that may eventually come to be accepted by all. Abortion should be legal, but only up to a certain date. We need to define, as best as we can, when we are dealing with a human being. The current definition of the law afford NO recognition that a developing child is a human being until the moment that child leaves his or her mother's womb. Anyone who pays the faintest attention...
