South Dakota passed a law saying that any internet retailer who ships merchandise into South Dakota must collect South Dakota sales tax on that sale. The issue before the Supreme Court is whether that South Dakota law is constitutional.
"My family came from a sh*thole country, and I'm proud of it!"
My grandmother, may she rest in peace, was arrested three times by the Czarist Russian secret police for trying to sneak out of the country. She succeeded on her fourth try and came to America. She was 19 years old at the time.
When I was a child, I remember one of my great-uncles (her brother-in-law) saying something about 'the old country." My grandmother screamed, "don't talk about ''the old country.' The old country was terrible, that's why we came here!"
So yeah, my family came from a sh!thole country, and I'm proud of my grandmother's courage in getting here.
What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer: a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciations of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade, and solemnity, are, to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices, more shocking and bloody, than are the people of these United States, at this very hour.
Go where you may, search where you will, roam through all the monarchies and despotisms of the old world, travel through South America, search out every abuse, and when you have found the last, lay your facts by the side of the everyday practices of this nation, and you will say with me, that, for revolting barbarity and shameless hypocrisy, America reigns without a rival.
40 billion is 20 million dollars a mile. Paul is right. A very good quality Highway should only cost 5 million a mile a full-blown Interstate including mountainous regions should be 20 million a mile.
How much land along the border is privately owned?
Under federal law, if the Government wants to take that land by eminent domain, each landowner gets a jury trial in federal court to determine "just compensation." That will add a bit to your estimate.
the GOP still retains a bastion of support in the southern part of the state, anchored by conservatives in Orange County and the militarys heavy presence near San Diego.
Orange County went for Hillary in 2016, the first time the County went for a Democrat since 1936(!). Changing demographics is part of it, but Trump also lost a lot of college-educated white people who used to be solid Republicans. (Nationwide, he more than made up for that by picking up white working class voters who used to be Dems, but there aren't many coal miners in Orange County.)
Kamala Harris is not eligible to be President of the USA.
"Therefore every person born within the United States, its territories or districts, whether the parents are citizens or aliens, is a natural born citizen in the sense of the Constitution, and entitled to all the rights and privileges appertaining to that capacity."-- William Rawle, A View of the Constitution of the United States of America, ch. 9 (1829).
Listened to most of the Jeff Kuhner Show and now Howie Carr, and they both are discussing this story as if it is completely factual, all statements attributed to Bannon and Trumps response. Was hoping it would prove to be fake news, but nothing to refute it so far.
There are two statements in issue: Bannon's alleged statement that Trump Jr.'s meeting with the Russians was "treasonous," and Trump's statement that Bannon "lost his mind."
The first quote (Bannon's) is dubious. The only source for that is a British newspaper which says it is in a forthcoming book which quotes Bannon. So double hearsay at best. (The newspaper may be misquoting the book, and/or the book may be misquoting Bannon.) On the other hand, I haven't seen Bannon disavow the quote.
The second quote (Trump saying that Bannon "lost his mind") is real; it's been confirmed by the White House. So Trump apparently believes that Bannon said what he's alleged to have said.
The Supreme Court of the United States had better hear AND RULE on it, OR ELSE ... ALL HELL IS GOING TO BREAK LOOSE !
The Supreme Court has no jurisdiction. Under the Constitution (Article I, section 5), the ultimate judge of any Senate election contest is the U.S. Senate itself. ("Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members"). If the Senate seats Jones, that's the end of it.
Under the existing law you get taxed at the corporate level and the personal level... uless youre taxed as a small business and in that instance this is all irrelevant.
That's if you're a C Corp. The new law applies to pass-through entities which don't pay tax (S Corps, partnerships, LLCs, etc.). The partners who get pass-through income will now be taxed on only 80% of it.
