I am in a small midwest city and just this morning I heard that 3 yes THREE funeral homes are going out of business because of “economic hard times”.

I never thought FUNERAL HOMES could have hard times since their business never really ends but I have seen it now.

Yup, whole lines of stores boarded up. When I moved here in 2006 there was a new very nice strip mall with 4 stores, a Pet store, a Circuit City, a Pier I and one other. Starting in ‘08 they began closing and now the row is empty.

The town I live in has maybe 50,000 people if that.

Well, being Jewish your approach is from THE LAW.

The Christian approach is from THE GOSPEL.

There is a lot of difference between the two. The law has is moments but there are times, depending on the situation, when the gospel is to be applied, not the law.

Arguing further is a waste of time since you do not believe in the Gospel.

By this logic, suicides are also condemned as they premeditate and take their own lives.

You can get off your high horse regarding this.

If the obamination get re-elected for a 2nd term THEN we will learn what it was like in Germany in the 30’s & 40’s.

This is not a matter of an “imperfect” mother. My earliest memory is not warm on any level.

I’ve forgiven her and to see us you might think there was some feeling going on.

Regrets! My brother killed himself, the other brother is in the pen for life (has done 20 years already) and I have my own suicidal inclinations (only occasionally now) to deal with and her to thank for them.

I kind of just wish she’d cash in finally - 87 years too long. And I am making sure she is safe, comfortable and well taken care of (not living with me tho). She has Alzheimers.

I just get sick and tired of those oozing over happy memories of childhood. And everyone always ASSUMES every old person was damn SAINT!

...to live comfortably? That could mean they don’t have enough to go on 4 vacations a year instead of 1, it could mean they can’t spend as much at Vegas as they would like to, it could mean a whole raft of things.

Oh where to begin? That old woman survived her son, MAYBE she was not so hot a mother. Borderline personality mothers always charm strangers at first.

NOT every old person was a great person or decent parent.
Abusive and neglectful parents grow old and feel awfully damn sorry for themselves and can look pitiful. But that doesn’t change that they lived a selfish life and treated their kids with no consideration.

I had such a parent and still have.

The country “chose” Obama in 2008 - bad enough.

The country is choosing to abandon Christianity and an entire structure of morals and decency and justice.

Bad choices are rather the norm. And enemies are just waiting for enough bad choices to be made to take over.

I, for one would like to see a return to what this country once was.

No one that I know of except muslims advocate Sharia.

Seems to me when I was younger, MEN did these things for purpose of exploration or scientific discovery of something important.

Hubby and I were driving home from a camping weekend once in Ohio and had a flat right at the spot where a semi had crashed in a cornfield filled with SAM ADAMS beer. One of the guys unloading the truck and dealing with it called us a tow truck since we didn’t have our spare with us.
The smell of that beer was heavy in the air and I couldn’t believe they weren’t drinking any of it.
I don’t drink beer myself but hubby said Sam Adams is a good beer and that whole semi was full of it all turned on its side in a cornfield in August.
I know hubby would agree that Bud Light is NOT really beer.

I read the whole article and you know, what it is saying in a nutshell is for ADULTS to be ADULTS and let children know it. A whole generation has abandoned the basic adult role.

“Let the child know you are the boss...” well, duh! There is a time for being all cuddly and a time for being AN ADULT.
This entire country is swamped with grown-up RAD people. They are reproducing in great number and creating even more small RAD’s.

Children need adults to tell them what to do, when to do it, WHY they must do it, what will happen if they do or do not and see to it that it does.
The older I get (and I am 52) the more I see the wisdom of the bible. I never understood “spare the rod and spoil the child” and, no it doesn’t mean to beat the heck out of kid but to BE the ADULT and make a kid feel the consequences of actions.

I will bet even the worst RAD child will learn when you touch a hot stove your hand will get burnt and they will not do it more than once. But they have learned that adults will never, ever burn them therefore they merely have to manipulate them long enough to get what they want. Kids have all the time in the world, adults have many responsibilities and are inclined to let things slide.

I now understand why children used to be “seen and not heard” and why the word discipline used to be something more than just an old word. Kids need it. They know NOTHING and must learn EVERYTHING and it is a sad truth but learning often comes through pain even for adults. And not just physical pain either.

That is a special cat. She is beautiful! I’d adopt her but I live in a no-pet apartment complex. I hope she finds a VERY good home!

I agree with others who say this has gone beyond a simple, small (read that few to say 8-10) people and is nearly a business and should be functioning as such.
