The selective outrage of the Left is NEVER addressed by those who have zeroed-in on the Confederate battle flag (example) as a symbol of hate and racism. Why? Because they can only express themselves in emotional terms where facts and truth mean nothing. For Lefties (and the easily intimidated among us), solid understanding and critical thinking are unimportant. It’s OK to discriminate against Christian bakeries to refusing gay wedding confectioneries, but these same people don’t say a thing when Islamic terrorists groups murder Christians and Gays in the most horrible of ways. If the baker doesn’t take your business, find another and don’t use the club of government to beat them. However, for the Left, Muslims are a protected group of misunderstood death cultists so telling the truth on them or sanctioning them cannot happen in a Leftist’s universe.

I do love the older Colt pistols. I have a 1943 vintage M1911A1 and a 1970s 8-inch barrel Colt Trooper Mk III in .357 Mag. I had a WW1 issue Colt M1917, but I sold it. That M1917 was a real war club, but it shot reliably and accurately in spite of its wartime manufacture. The best revolvers are built by S&W when compared to the average Colt revolver. [The WW1 S&W M1917 was far superior in fit and finish to the Colt M1917.]

S&W makes some great semi-auto winners and also some losers. Their original Model 39 series weren't all that reliable when subjected to the elements of snow, dust, mud, etc. Their third generation Model 3904 pistol [derived from the Model 39] was very reliable under all environmental conditions. These single stack S&W 9mm pistols are out of production. The Model 915 was the Gen III version of the Gen I Model 59 double stack 9mm magazine version of the Model 39. The model 915 went out of production in 2008.

Colt Firearms has been mismanaged since the 1960’s. They've screwed the pooch numerous times and come back only to return to their old ways of doing things. Colt needs to be sold to someone wanting to build firearms for shooters. Something similar to the acquisition of S&W Corporation from the UK firm Tompkins PLC by Saf-T-Hammer Corporation. Saf-T-Hammer has really rejuvenated the S&W brand that had been so degraded by prior management.

Very true the Type XXI was a game changer; so was the Messerschmidt Me-262. However, decisions were made (in addition to the Allied bombing of the Reich) that rendered these new weapons too few and too late to change the European War outcome. The Germans had a lot of other promising designs that would have caused the Allies much trouble, but these super weapons were too few and too late.

I have never understood why the Japanese never got their act together in the ASW arena. The war was nearly over when they started to get serious and it was literally “a bridge too far”.

The IJN also never figured out how to employ their submarines as aggressively as the USN did from 8 December 1941 onwards. The Japanese blazed tactical and technological trails in many ways at the start of the Pacific War. But, they allowed the US to catch up and surpass them as they appeared to flounder.

I've got four AR-clone rifles (20-inch barrel) and carbines (16-inch barrel) and not one of them is a Colt. I have had two Colt “Sporters”: 1) a 1964 vintage SP1 and a 1982 AR-15A2 (1 in 7 twist barrel). I sold both so I could install Mil-Spec parts in my lowers and have captive push pins like the military M16’s. I've built seven AR-type rifles and carbines on non-Colt lowers since my original colt 1964 SP1. As time has passed, I've seen the horrible products Colt's had dumped on American shooters. Would I take a Colt? Yes, so I could trade it for another manufacturer's rifle or carbine. AR-type rifles and carbines are a cottage industry and Colt is only one player. Perhaps Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization will force them to consider the errors of their business model? If Colt's wants to survive, they MUST change and I'm not certain they're smart enough to figure this out.

Unlike the Allied response to the Battle of the Atlantic where all sorts of technology was arrayed against the U-boats: long range patrol bombers (seaplane and land based); blimps for convoy escort; hunter-killer groups of “Jeep” carriers and destroyer escorts; convoys; HF direction finding; state of the art radar and sonar; improved ASW weapons like homing torpedoes, Hedge Hogs, and redesigned depth charges - Japan never got its ASW act together at any time during the Pacific War. Japanese radar and sonar sucked; the IJN had no equivalents to the CVE/De hunter-killer groups; Japan did not have the types and numbers of long range ASW aircraft. Their ASW efforts can best be described as amateurish.

Colt has been having money troubles for years and has continually dumped on its civilian customers in favor of law enforcement and military firearms (limited markets at best). The problem for Colt is their products really aren't that competitive with other manufacturers and they've tried to make their AR-15 variations into Colt proprietary products instead of the more popular Mil-Spec AR with affordable and interchangeable parts.

Since Colt's first AR-15 SP1 “Sporter” was first marketed in 1964, Colt has had this compulsive fear that Colt lowers could not interface with Mil-Spec uppers. First, Colt abandoned the captive push pin for a two headed screw to join the upper and lower receivers — while all other AR manufacturers use the captive push pin. Colt continues to be odd man out in this AR feature to this very day.

Then, Colt decided to play games with the lower receiver trigger and hammer pins. They increased the pin diameter from 0.154 inches to 0.176 inches to prevent installation of M16 parts. all this has done is make Colt “big pin” lowers the odd man out again. All other manufacturers of AR lowers use 0.154 inch pins.

The last screwing around with parts is Colt's has systematically butchered the AR-15 bolt carrier. They have removed metal in an attempt to make it on interchangeable with the M16 and weakened it in the process. All other AR manufacturers use a semi-auto only bolt carrier that cuts the bottom of the carrier back so that it cannot trip the sear if full auto parts are installed. None of them butcher the bolt carrier the way Colt's does.

Last but not least, Colt's decreed that all its “bread and butter” firearms were only available through the Colt's Custom Shop whose customer service totally sucks. Firearms affected were their AR-15 and Government Model Series 80 or M1991A1 pistols. [To appease the lawyers, Colt's modified the M1911A1 to add an unnecessary five parts for a firing pin interlock. This was sold to consumers as correcting a design flaw — that never existed. Series 80 GM’s (or M1991A1’s) work well without these useless parts.]

Perhaps Colt's will get their business model correct after their Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization — it's not as if they've not had previous experience in trying to straighten their act out, but they just keep screwing things up and expect the customer not to notice and be happy with crappy service and products.

Other than for training on the East Coast by older boats, all new construction boats went to the Pacific Theater of Operations where the boats deployed from Pearl Harbor (ComSubPac) or Australia (ComSubSouWestPac). The Gato, Balao, and Tench class boats became the killers of the Imperial Navy and merchant marine in the Pacific War.

The Germans lost the Battle of the Atlantic — trying to strangle the flow of war materials to the UK and Russia. Of 1,158 boats built, Germany lost 781 submarines and 30,000 of 40,000 submariners.

American submarines accomplished with the Japanese Empire what the Germans failed to do in the Atlantic Theater of Operations and with with lesser forces deployed. The US Navy sent 288 submarines of all types against Japan. The US Navy submarine force represented 1.6% of US Navy personnel. The US Navy lost 52 boats with a casualty rate of 22% killed — highest of all the US military branches. It destroyed 2/3 of the Japanese merchant fleet and 1/3 of the IJN afloat on 7 December 1941. American submariners won their war in the Pacific Theater.

If there is one lesson to take from World War 2, America WAS the “Arsenal of Democracy”. America not only supplied its own fighting forces with everything they needed, but equipped its other major allies — Great Britain, Canada, Russia, and France — as well.

America delivered more than 357,000 aircraft; 12 million small arms; 47 billion rounds of small arms ammunition; 11 million tons of artillery ammunition; 1.6 million trucks, tanks, tank chassis; 5777 supply type ships; 107 CVL/CVE carriers; 29 CVB/CV carriers; 8 BB; 1050 LST; 76 CB/CA/CL cruisers; 857 DD/DE; 203 SS.

Compare US aircraft production figures to those of the major combatants and you'll see the numbers that led to victory.

    ALLIES
    USAAF — 297,199
    USN — 60,456
    Great Britain — 131,549 [RAF,RN]
    Russia — 158,218

If Mr. Ronald Wayne McNeil is stupid enough to believe this firearm “accidentally” fired 15 shots at Ms. Lacie LaRose, he's deranged. A firearm doesn't go off by itself 15 times unless it is intentional. Where death results, it's called First or Second Degree Murder, depending on premeditation or spur of the moment action of the shooter. Either way, McNeil will not have to worry about where he will be staying for the rest of his life.

The bottom line is that even the Israelis couldn't make the M73 or M85 guns work and so the MAG-58 Tank gun replaced the M73 as co-axial to the main gun and the M2HB replaced the M85. The cupola for the M85 went away and was replaced by the Israeli version. There were two M2 machine guns added to the turret; the TC got an M2 to shoot and another M2 was mounted to the main gun for backup aiming or ranging shots. The loader got a MAG-58 7.62 GPMG mounted by his hatch so he could shoot bad guys. Israeli M60s were very well armed with turret mounted machine guns.

I remember the five Class A accidents came from a piece done during the investigation of LT Hultgreen's mediocre flying skills. One of her instructor pilots discovered that the US Navy was trying to cover up LT Hultgreen's mediocre skills and record. The US Navy even went so far as to meddle with the F-14 simulator software to make it impossible for experienced pilots to survive the incident that led to LT Hultgreen's aircraft loss and her death. This IP blew the whistle on this sorry cover up to protect bad decisions by senior officers. His career was torpedoed as a result, but the US Navy was forced by the adverse publicity into telling the truth as to what really happened — so great was their embarrassment. Bottom line; the LT Kara Hultgreen Incident was not one of Naval Aviation's best moments.

Obama tried his version of the ATF siege at Waco, Texas, at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada. What happened was the a**hole politicians and their toady LEOs looked into the abyss of enforcement and confiscation and saw death staring back at them. They are pondering their next move. The civil war against the gun grabbers in the government almost started at the Bundy Ranch in Nevada. The Feds expected another Waco, Texas, but what they got was death staring back. These petty tyrants need to understand that the victims in their grand plan for subjugation get to vote under Rule .308. You have to be alive to enjoy your bloated retirement and its perks. Civil war changes things when the intended victims begin hunting the hunters.

This is the final sanity check. The moment the U.S. or a state government turns its guns on innocent people, the "...to alter or abolish it..." part of the Declaration of Independence becomes operative. Most of these silly political pricks are nothing more than overpaid bullies that think they can do anything they please -- including murder. Well murder your fellow citizens and neighbors and they will murder you back. These governmental goons must understand it is easy to start the killing but is very difficult to STOP the killing.

In the 1990s, the USN and USAF were in a race to qualify the first female fighter pilot. Worse, this female was fast tracked to command a squadron that was a prerequisite for higher command.

LT Kara Hultgreen was the first USN female fighter pilot qualified in the F-14A Tomcat. Hultgreen had a mediocre training record, but was flagged as the leader in the fighter pilot derby. In addition, Hultgreen was not a safe pilot, because she'd had five Class A accidents [where the aircraft is seriously damaged or destroyed]. A male officer would have had his flight status pulled after two, but Hultgreen was allowed five.

On 25 October 1994, Hultgreen was killed when her F-14A, crashed on approach to USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) off the coast of San Diego after a routine training mission.

Finding herself overshooting the landing area centerline, Hultgreen attempted to correct her approach by applying left rudder pedal which caused the nose to disrupt the airflow over the left (inside) wing as well as the airflow to the left engine intake. (The Approach Turn Stall, aerodynamic effect and the appropriate recovery technique were taught throughout the period that Hultgreen completed primary [undergraduate] flight training.) The left-hand engine suffered a compressor stall and lost power -- a well-known deficiency characteristic of the F-14A's TF30 engine when inlet air was no longer flowing straight into it. The F-14 NATOPS flight manual warned against excess yaw for this reason. Loss of an F-14 engine results in asymmetric thrust, which can exceed rudder authority, especially at low speeds.

After aborting the approach, Hultgreen selected full afterburner on the remaining engine, causing an even greater asymmetry. This, combined with a high angle of attack, caused an unrecoverable approach turn stall and rapid wing drop to the left. The radar intercept officer (RIO) in the rear seat, LT Matthew Klemish, initiated ejection for himself and Hultgreen as soon as it was apparent that the aircraft was becoming uncontrollable. First in the automated ejection sequence, the RIO survived. However, by the time Hultgreen's seat fired 0.4 seconds later, the plane had rolled past the horizontal and she was ejected downward into the water. She was killed instantly. The entire event unfolded in less than 20 seconds.

Applicants can drop out of their own volition (Drop on Request — DOR), be setback in training due to a physical injury, be dropped due to inability to complete a training phase, or be dropped for academic reasons. Of our mythical class of 120 applicants, 35 or less will complete all three phases (25 weeks) of BUD/S and get their trident [SEAL[ badge.

Ranger training typically runs 61 days, so if 2nd LT Suzie Cupcake didn't make it through that selection, can anyone guess about SEAL training?

  • You'll Never Guess Who's Building an Aircraft Carrier Now (Seriously... Try)

The world of carrier aviation is probably the most dangerous kind of flying known to man. Carrier pilots EARN the title of aviator. Your average US Navy super carrier is 1,000 feet long and 200 feet wide. it has four catapults and four arresting wires.

Launch — Aviators take it as a matter of faith at launch the ‘cat’ will accelerate them from 0 to 160 mph in 200 feet at launch. If not, it's ejection time before impacting the ocean. You have the end of two to three seconds to decide whether you're flying or ejecting.

Recovery — Aviators are faced with a postage stamp sized landing area that is moving away from them at 35 knots. The landing area itself is roughly 80 feet wide by 250 long. Your approach speed is roughly 160 mph with a very steep glide slope. The idea is to hook the No. 3 arresting wire [perfect trap]. If you miss the wires for any reason, you give the bird full throttles so your ‘bolter’ can take off and set up for another pass. Day light traps are usually no problem. Night carrier landings can (and do) get very serious when: 1) the wind and sea state get aroused: 2) that causes the carrier deck to pitch, yaw, and roll; and 3) our aviator's pucker factor really pegs the red line when the carrier goes tactical and the only lights are those for landing and all electronic emissions are shut down. The Navy measured its aviator's reactions under night carrier landings under these three conditions and not even combat spiked adrenaline flows like these conditions.

Tanking -- Sometimes even the best aviators can't get aboard and they have to get fuel. at least one bird is up carrying a 'buddy store' carrying a hose reel and extra fuel. The thirsty jet then takes on enough fuel using the probe and drogue system to execute three more landing attempts. Missed traps and tanking to get fuel actually boost the stress level because the aviator knows he's either got to land his 'bird on the boat' or eject into the inky black darkness over the ocean.

Those countries wanting to do carrier operations are going to find there is a very unforgiving and fatal learning curve associated with such flying.

  • Now it's the police who protest in Baltimore

The question: “Is Baltimore burning? If not, why not?” Let the police back off and let the feral scum take over the streets. Let the politicians say “oh, owe to us” and “what can we do?” and make excuses why they cannot stop the feral thugs, looters, arsonists, and murderers.

And, will the residents of the thug jungle of Baltimore wake up to the fact their crime increase is SELF INFLICTED? Will they wake up? My guess is the citizenry are collectively too stupid to figure it out.

I guess a “kinder and gentler” way of policing is to concentrate on real crimes like issuing parking violations, cracking down on jaywalkers, speeding, and detailing the inside and outside of squad cars. You know, work the politicians think is indispensable. As for thuggery and murder, not so much. The victims of these crimes just picked the wrong place and time to live their lives. Thugs and murderers just got to do what they do and politicians wouldn't want to hurt the thugs and murderers self esteem.

Should we infer that the Bureau of Prisons is going to war with its inmates and needs all this ammunition to execute them? Is this Obama’s Final Solution to the Prison Problem? Once all the prisons kill off their residents, who gets to refill them? Has FedGov been taking any bids for crematoriums or is EPA withholding approval?

By all means, Columbia University doesn't want to host anyone that does not have lockstep anti-gun views. Original thought is forbidden at Columbia (as it is at most colleges ans universities).
