  • Here's how to Deter Putin...DO IT NOW!

Don’t come here very often, but it is good to remember that Turkey in its old guise as the Ottoman EMpire was a sworn enemy of Russia.

Hence Turkey, taken in as a NATO member, is interested in maneuvering a situation to its advantage and since the current PM, Erdogan, is an Islamacist I suspect that THIS would be why Obama is marginally on the side of the protestors.

Only my theory, and I have no proof. I happened to see the link to this article on Twitter and thought I would see what you all had to say.

NONE of this would have happened if we did not have a weakened military and a president who goes around apologizing and then making trash talk about Putin, after which he makes stupid comments like a few lines in a speech or interview is going to change Putin’s mind.

I hope we survive the next 3 years.

From my stay in Canterbury and visit to London in June, I can tell you the British people are pretty much fed up. Lots of shopkeepers and guides made comments about immigration, EU rules, government regulations, etc.

I think the Jubilee reminded them of how they used to be.

One shopkeeper in Cantebury went on and on about the Muslims and how they had made a sewer of London. He went on and on about it, without me asking. Volunteered his opinion on hearing my accent.

A little known part of English history is that they have been known to completely drive out ethnic groups from the island, the Jews most famously in medieval times. I think the only thing stopping them from doing this is world opinion and the fact they don’t have guns. Seriously. (And I am not advocating ethnic cleansing or such, just observing things as they are and past history.)

I know you think I am making excuses. I suggest reading a few accounts of campaigns, inside DC baseball, and the like.

President Bush couldn’t get speech time on the networks during wartime. There is a reason we have only seen Inhofe on Fox, and then usually only on Hannity’s show.

You seem to think that McConnell can demand time. He can demand all he wants, but they won’t have him on unless they can pair him with a snappy democrat talker and make him look foolish. The producers control the agenda.

The only people who can demand time on one of these shows is a president, vice president, or secretary of state or defense. And then it requires extreme pressure if you are a Republican office holder.

You can fuss at me all you want, but do you really think the GOP doesn’t want to be on TV? Do you really think that the only GOP available for TV are the RINOS? Come on!

It has become too easy to dump blame on our side. They have their faults (and some, quite a few), but blaming them for not being on the Sunday talk shows isn’t fair.

Also, I think the comment about something between their legs is vulgar.

Absolutely! The producers usually remain anonymous, which is part of the plan. You can bitch to David Gregory on Twitter, but usually what happens is he blocks you.

John Nolte of Breitbart is one who is very good at bringing this to everyone’s attention.

It’s very obvious that the networks are going with the DNC agenda on this. Obama is going to Colorado to “grieve” with the families, although I imagine this will be a photo op and a short comment on the availability of guns.

The democrats probably started calling and offering themselves as guests on these shows about 5AM on Friday morning, right after the talking points were emailed from the White House.

Once again, I must point out that it is the producers of these shows who INVITE the guests. The GOP has several people who would talk about this, including Senator Inhofe and Senator DeMint.

Do you think they are hiding? Nope. The producers want to push the line of gun control, so they bring on the people who will support it and ignore the people who opose it.

Why do you think that for months and months all we ever saw was McCain or Graham?

You are so right. I think Romney has encouraged the buzz about the VP slot so that these surrogates get coverage (because the press is convinced they are “auditions”).

I think that is why the Condi leak happened as well. I don’t doubt that she was originally on a list due to her foreign policy expertise, but I also know that she said many times she wouldn’t do it. However, leaking her name got her on a couple of talk shows where she nicely lambasted Obama’s foreign policy.

There are many provisions in the Obamacare bill that are already in place and could be effectively used for campaign purposes. These include:

It is a tax on the working poor.
They have instituted a 2-week wait period for defibrillator pacemakers.
They are taxing artificial legs and hip replacement parts.
Muslims, unions, certain corporations, and certain towns, cities and states got exemptions. (The Muslim example PO’s people like you wouldn’t believe.)

I suggest people start talking about these things to everyone you know.

And as far as I am concerned, tax’s on the medical devices is the same as taxing you for being a cripple. (Using the most p[perjorative manner of saying this as possible.)

Another way is to say “Captain Smith lost both his legs in the Iraq War, and now Obama wants to tax him for getting new legs.”

I am serious. WE should be saying this stuff. We shuold not be waiting on the Romney people. Our job is to sow Obama doubt everywhere we go.

I don’t know if you remember, but back in 2000 after Bush got the nomination and gave a wonderful acceptance speech, thee was suddenly a news black-out on him. Certain dubious characters on FR started calling him a lazy campaigner.

A couple of other Freepers and I started doing the “Bush Cheney 2000 Victory Tour” threads with reports by Freepers who were AT Bush appearances, complete with photos, just to prove that Bush was, indeed, campaigning.

The media has nothing to hit Romney with, except old stuff like the recycled Bain. He’s good-looking and a much better speaker than Obama. He’s resenting ideas which resonate with a lot of the voters.

So, the logical step by the media is to simply refuse to air his appearances.

Did you know he and Ann did a sit-down interview with Oprah this week? I assume it is for her magazine.

My son suggested a combination of drip and overhead depending on whether beds or lawn area. He thinks it will cost about $3000 (I have a very large yard and garden).

I had put off doing it in order to do other improvements and repairs, but the time and money spent this year has convinced me it would be a sound investment. I also need new windows, so I had better get cracking on selling!

I have been running the sprinklers from 6:30 in the morning until 10 at night, watering sunny areas in the early morning and dusk hours, and shady areas the rest of the time.

It is going to cost a fortune in water bills (last month’s was $200 and that is before I really started getting serious).

I have an established garden with roses, a large multi-trunk birch, a dawn redwood, and numerous perennial beds with heirloom plants from my late father and my late mother-in-law.

I do not spend money on fancy clothes, gourmet food, or luxury cars. My luxury is watering, and I am fortunate that due to my dear husband hauling himself off to Africa for work in the gold fields, I can afford it.

So I am watering until they tell me it’s against the law. It would cost me way more to replace the items, even if I didn’t have a sentimental attachment to the plants.

As far as annuals, I didn’t put any in this year (this is our 3rd year of summer drought) except a few patio pots and some hanging baskets on the porch. I can water those with 2-3 watering cans full.

The Fox xommenter is parroting Rupert Murdoch, his boss. That is the current line being pushed by Fox and the Murdoch papers. Murdoch fancies himself a political strategist and has posted this on Twitter.

Of course, a less charitable view would be that he has been threatened by legal hassles by the DOJ akin to what has happened in the UK.

Romney HAS answered many of these charges, and there is also a saying about “Not firing until you see the whites of their eyes.”

The argument against Obamacare is very simple. Whether Romneycare is good or bad, or whether it even existed, the answer to Obamacare is this: “We cannot afford it, it kills jobs, and the people want it repealed.” End of discussion. No need to get into the tall weeds of tax vs. mandate, constitutionality, or anything else.

I suggest people actually do a little research rather than believing Fox right now. Santorum was Murdoch’s pick and he is still miffed that his influence didn’t push him over the line.

    Good morning!

I only come to this thread on FR. Reasons:

Too much in-fighting, which pre-dates Romney. I saw it in 2008 when Guiliani backers got the old heave-ho. Before that in 2000, I still remember how Bush supporters were attacked.

(I always thought conservatives were supposed to be reasonable, not emotional.)

Slow servers. This is frustrating when there is a big news event.

Lack of easy posting of graphics (icons, photos, charts, etc.)

Those are the top three. In addition, I prefer posting on Twitter, where I can directly confront news people.

I am also disturbed about the anti-Mormon sentiment I have seen on some threads, which I find strikingly similar to the left.

So that is why I am only here on your thread, and only every so often.

Now to go move the sprinkler. We have not had rain since late May, and I am struggling to keep my landscape alive.

Good morning! Just got back from mass about an hour ago. I have some random thoughts on the SC ruling, and put them out here for consideration:

    1. If the penalty is a tax, then what happens to tax-exempt entities, like the churches?

    2. If the penalty is a tax, then how can the president grant waivers?

    3. Ran across a liberal colunist this morning who was very concerned about the inability of the government to restrict current Medicaid funds for new requirements. She believed that this negated a big club the feds use when requiring all sorts of things in education, prisons, consumer rights, safety, etc. She read it that they can restrict NEW funds but cannot cut already existing funding. This had her really upset.

    4. I think somebody needs to think about the fact that Roberts’ family might have been threatened. I believe he was called to a meeting at the White House last week sometime. He has two children who were adopted from overseas. There is all sorts of opportunity for bureaucratic intimidation with this. I would like to point out that this scenario makes more sense than someone who has long been involved with conservative organizations suddenly becoming interested in cocktail party attendance. It also would explain why this ruling on the surface looks like an Obama win but has hidden minefields for the left.

On my last point, I would like everyone to think about which is more likely: Roberts is a turncoat, or Obama is a thug.

    Discuss.

    Hi, everyone!

I was in England for the Jubilee, thanks to the free air tickets my husband got for my sister and me. Saw part of the flotilla through the crowds, saw Charles and Camilla leave Kensington Palace and got a wave and a bad photo, spent time in Canterbury and visited historic country homes.

    1. It is still cold and wet in England. Most of the time we were there it was rain and 45-55 degrees. One day of sun in the 70’s.

    2. Lots of fed-up Brits who volunteered political opinions to me, even though I didn’t ask. Points of anger include Muslims, smoking restrictions, regulations, taxes, and the EU.

    3. Egyptian hotel manager in London who was very nice asked me what I thought about Mubarak. Being a diplomat (and unfortunately suspicious of Muslims even though this seemed like a very nice man) I said, “I don’t know much about Egyptian politics, but it does seem like Mubarak helped us for 30 years and then we just threw him to the wolves.” The Egyptian guy got animated and said, “That is what I think! Egypt is ruined!” So there you go with Obama’s swell foreign policy. No one will trust us again.

    4. I expect anti-EU sentiment to swell in the UK. The Jubilee had a side effect of reminding the Brits about who it was who stood up to the Germans (and who surrendered), how they once had an empire, how they once had more freedom. One guy in Canterbury told me that Muslims had made London a sewer, and he wanted to know about the KKK! Honest to God. There is NO WAY they will vote for the EU if there is a referendum. And if Cameron doesn’t have a referendum, his government will fall.

Miss Marple, reporting European news you will not hear from the American media.

Let us remember our late friend Common Tator, who often said that politics is about making converts.

Many people who voted for Obama were doing so because they believed the hype, thought it would improve race relations, or thought Obama knew about how to fix the economy. Of course they were wrong.

It is VERY important that we get those people’s votes. Therefore, we need to give them an excuse. I suggest telling them the following:

“I know Obama sounded good. It’s the media’s fault for hiding all of his flaws and inexperience. They made it easy for Obama to get away with saying stuff that wasn’t quite true. Now look where we are.”

Let them BLAME THE MEDIA. Do not tell them that they should have been more diligent in their learning about the candidates. Deep in their hearts, they know this. Let them blame the media, and then give them a nice chat about increasing employment by opening up energy reserves, keeping manufacturing here with lower energy costs, and getting government out of healthcare, (In case you don’t know it, Muslims don’t have to be involved in Obamacare, which is my big killer point when people start griping about the Catholic hospitals and the lawsuit.)

As near as I can determine, he supports whoever he thinks will give him a job or invite him to the White House for advice.

Example: He supported Colin Powell for president for months back in 1999, until it became obvious that Powell wasn’t going to run. Then he switched to McCain. Why didn’t he support Bush?

Because he was Quayle’s chief of staff (which he got by maneuvering the original guy out) and was distrusted by James Baker for being a leaker to the media. They wouldn’t even let him in staff meetings after a while. (Quayle says in his autobiography “Standing Firm” that is was because Baker et al were intimidated by Kristol’s intellect. This is why Dan Quayle needs to stay in Arizona. He BELIEVED the line Kristol fed him.) Kristol also was responsible for the Murphy Brown flap, which I heard him admit to Brit Hume on Fox. So the Bush people wanted nothing to do with Kristol.

After the Florida recount, Kristol suddenly became very pro-Bush. This lasted until the China spy plane incident. After Powell negotiated the release of the crew, Kristol wrote an article called “Our Profound National Humiliation” attacking Powell (whom he had supported, remember) and Bush. And ever after that Kristol would snipe and chip at the Bush people.

I also believe Kristol was responsible for the Jeffords jump which changed the balance in the Senate. Jeffords got the idea that he wasn’t going to get the dairy subsidy and that Bush was going to backstab him. That was never the case and the Bush people to this day can’t figure out why he thought that. Kristol was on Fox with the “big news” of the jump as an exclusive, complete with his possum-like grin. No one supposedly knew that Daschle had been in talks with Jeffords, but somehow Kristol knew, and I am convinced it is because he initiated the entire thing in revenge.

Now, here he is trying to give the democrats good ideas. Why would that be? Because Romney is a sharp business guy who has learned to size people up and there is no way on God’s green earth he is going to give Kristol any sort of power or influence. Plus there are a lot of Bush people on Romney’s team, who know ALL about Kristol.

So in his typical pattern, he would rather engineer a loss for Romney and get some crumbs from Hillary, than stand up for what is good for the country.

Did I mention I despise him?

Good morning! Bad earthquake in northern Italy last night with 3 people killed and several hundred injured. Centered near Bologna. Several historical sites were severely damaged.

I agree. You have provided an excellent timeline and I also would point out that Biden’s interview was pre-recorded, not live. If Biden misspoke, there was ample opportunity to have him walk it back.

The whole thing was a set up, as you said.

The question is what will their next little kabuki dance be? I am of the mind that we need to start pointing out how they refuse to talk about the stuff most Americans are worried about. The media either needs to quit working in tandem with the administration or at least add a disclaimer.

I said at the time that Stephanopolous was hired on ABC that This Week would never be anything but an arm of the DNC. I was correct.

It isn’t that Paul Ryan is talking about stuff too hard for people to understand. He explains it just fine.

Which is why they DON’T have him on. He’s a likeable guy who makes sense. Can’t have that!

GAY MARRIAGE! BIRTH CONTROL! SQUIRREL! LOOK OVER THERE!

    It’s ridiculous.

It really is like they are rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

I recommend everyone get on Twitter and tell them we are concerned about the economy. For example, Stephie wanted opinions on what we all thought about gay marriage. I told him I was sick of hearing about it and wanted to know whay they weren’t talking about jobs.

It doesn’t do any good to let them think that they are getting away with it. Go out there and fight! Use talk radio, letters to editor, twitter, comments sections on newspaper web sites! Mention it to your friends, as in “Do you notice how the president doesn’t want to talk about the economy and keeps pulling these distractions out?”

    Get busy, folks!

kabar, I am not trying to argue policy. I don’t have all of the information and statistics.

All I was saying is that whatever her expertise, Michelle Malkin’s venom on this issue may play well with parts of the population, but it does encourage anti-Hispanic rhetoric from a chunk of the population. She needs to get consultation on how to present her argument.

Fishtalk, I apologize because I conflated “anti-immigrant” with “anti-Hispanic.” I was intending to talk about the latter. And there is zero doubt that at least in Indianapolis this anti-Hispanic vein has been ramped up. Sorry for confusing the two terms.

Of course we support LEGAL immigration and oppose ILLEGAL immigration. I agree 100% on that. My beef is with how this is presented.

Well, thank you for posting that extremely long and condescending reply.

I really am not getting into a huge discussion with you. Since you used to work for the State Department you have access to a wealth of statistics that I do not.

But regardless of whether Michelle Malkin is an expert or not (and you REALLY want to bring up Pat Buchanan?) I will tell you that she is becoming increasingly vitriolic on television and she DID encourage the anti-Mexican/Peruvian/Honduran/Brazilian/ Colombian/ Venezuelan/Dominican/Chilean etc. faction to make racist comments locally, and our idiotic local talk-show host never stopped it and in fact encouraged it. (Sorry for listing all of the countries. I didn’t want to use that “contrived” word - Hispanic.)

So basically, your advice is to have a DIALOGUE. Wow. That’s some solution! Let’s all just TALK about it for another 10 years.

Pfft. I may not be some super-sophisticated State Department veteran, but we need action, not talk.

Adios, amigo! (That there is Spanish, or “Hispanic” talk.)

France has a huge Communist party. The French people have been down the socialist road before (when times were easier) and I am sure they think that electing a socialist will bring back the good times.

Well, are they in for a surprise. Germany won’t work with them if they insist on their stupid spending, and pretty soon the money will stop flowing their way. It would not surprise me to find out that Sarkozy was a target of Soros.

All I can tell you is that I am going to England at the end of the month, but I am NOT going to France. And it is time to stop buying French wine again.

I meant exactly what I said. Local talk radio was full of people complaining about bi-lingual signs in the drugstores, hearing Spanish being spoken in laundromats, complaints about Hispanics opening businesses. It was flat-out anti-Hispanic crap and it was tolerated by our local talk radio host. People like Malkin were so hateful in their comments that it gave license to people to make comments like this.

Now, it may be that you and others here are not anti-Hispanic, but don’t tell me there aren’t a portion of people who ARE, and they are on both sides of the aisle. We just had police called in to a gang fight at one of the high schools between blacks and Hispanics.

If people really were serious about this issue then why didn’t the GOP accept the guest worker program President Bush put forth? This issue has been hijacked by people who are not interested in a solution and are simply stirring the bad feeling.

The obvious solution is to secure the border and then figure out what to do with the ones who are here. Some have self-deported already due to the poor economy. The rest could becomeo permanent legal residents without citizenship privileges. But all I see is a lot of talk and no action from either side.

And when Romney tries to do something about this next year, the same people (Malkin primarily) will be on his case like he was the most evil person in the world, just like they did to Perry.

And it is amazing to me that people got their feelings hurt over that one comment Perry made. He was obviously not good with words and should have phrased it differently. Are people such weenies that they can’t say, “Sorry, you’re wrong and here’s why?” Instead they go nutso on Perry and we lost a guy who probably could have been a good candidate.

Conservatives are fond of saying the liberals are the ones who make decisions on emotions, but I haven’t seen evidence of much rationality on the conservative side over the last 6 years. Either the premise is wrong, or we have a lot of people who are not conservatives here. Take your choice.
