Yup. My hubby and I have been exploring other options to the public school system, and I know in my heart that it would be a much better situation. I would really love to home school, but would need to enlist help from others to make it happen as I work full time (but half of the time I am working in my home office).

I think the incident that happened a couple years ago was an eye opener for me. Shocking, really...

The school does not “own” my child when he is in their building. Until my child reaches the age of 18, I consider myself and the child’s father to be the ultimate authority of my child. The school is merely entrusted with the child’s safekeeping while in their building for the purpose of an education.

If you relinquish authority over your children to the school at any time, all I can say is—good luck with that. I hope that works out well for you.

Uh... I wasn’t an unknown entity when I walked into the designated entrance for parents (by the school administrative office) and was standing in the designated spot for other parents picking up their children from the lunchroom kid waiting area. I was where I was supposed to be.

My point is that the “monitor” knew that I was the child’s parent, but was going to make him ride the bus home anyways because I didn’t send a note to the school. She would have rather had him go home on the bus to an empty house than use common sense and let my son leave the school with me since I didn’t follow their rules to the “T.”

Below is a story about the police being called by an elementary school to deal with an angry parent. I can see how a parent would become angry at some school rules. I once had a situation where I went to pick up my elementary aged son.

I went into the school, and it was common practice for the kids to sit in the lunch room area to wait for the buses to arrive. My son saw me and came running over to me. He was suprised to see me because I hadn’t planned on picking him up at school that day. He was walking with me to the door, and the school “monitor” stopped us and asked me whether or not I had informed the school via note that I was going to pick my son up after school. I said that I had not, but my plans had changed later in the day and I needed to get my son quickly and go to an appointment and wouldn’t be at home when he normally arrived on the bus. The “monitor” actually said that I would not be able to take my son at that time, and he would have to ride the bus—no note, no kid! She later backed off her assertion after I questioned whether or not she felt she could keep my child from me. The schools are acting as though they own our children when they are in their buildings.

School asks for help with angry parent

A 32-year-old Ramsey woman was apparently upset over the school’s child pick-up rules. The officer witnessed the parent attempt to break the rules until confronted by staff. The parent became upset, using profanities with both the staff and the officer. The officer mediated.”

I agree. I would also say that making sure there were few security people at Benghazi allowed for a convenient meeting place for Ambassador Stevens to conduct gun running meetings with Turkish officials. The fewer people around, the less chance that people would find out about the operation.

Wow!!! That was powerful! I’m so glad that someone is working to effectively put out the message on why the gun control laws being proposed don’t work. Do you know if these will solely be on the Internet, or will they cross to television, too?

So, I have to ask: If “non-legal residents” are eligible for financial aid from the universities, isn’t this crowding out participation for the people who are here legally? After all, there is only so much money to go around. Also, will these “non-legals” be given an advantage over white “legals” because of their minority status?

I resent that my tax dollars are going to pay for this.

Thanks a lot for your response to my question. I agree that there seems to be nowhere to hide in the world (including, foreign bond funds). I am not sophisticated enough to know on my own when to move the money in my 401K around to my benefit, or where to move it for that matter.

Do any of you know about the pros and cons of putting 401k money in foreign bond funds? I am looking to at least try to preserve what I can of my 401k and have no confidence in the stock market. Would this be a sensible option? If not, what would be better?

Yes. Back in the 90’s our Governor, Arne Carlson thought it was a wonderful Idea to accept Federal money in exchange for offering a nice place to live to the Somali refuges. There is a very large community of them in the metro area.

I smell B.S., too. I posted on another thread that I think confiscation of guns using the mental health/psychotropic drug angle is their intention all along. There is a similar provision in the current Senate bill being debated. The NY State Police just began implementing TOO SOON, which brought unwelcome attention to the language in the proposed Federal legislation. The NY State Police were probably ordered to slip back underneath their rocks for a while until all legislation is in place at a federal level.

You will notice that the police statement didn’t say that they did the wrong thing. They just said that they did it to the wrong person.

I feel like I’m off my rocker for thinking this way, but I only use the past track record of our government to generate this hypothesis. These are some devious and evil people we are dealing with, here.

Right. I’m sure most people will think that the state’s admission of a mistake is the end of the story and an ADMISSION that they can not legally take guns from people who have happened to take certain prescription drugs in the past. I assume that the confiscations will resume on this basis as soon as the Feds finish debating and approving their own legislation.

The only “error” that the state admitted to in their press formal letter is that they came for the wrong guy—NOT that they shouldn’t be confiscating weapons based on a medical provider’s assessment or some sort of database entry.

My hunch is that the NY State Police merely put into motion the provisions of the law TOO EARLY! The story was receiving some attention, and the Senate’s current bill also included language related to mental state and HIPPA non-appliccability. The gun confiscation in NY State was simply shining the light on the true intentions of the Senate legislation, and they had to pull back into the “shadows” until all legislation is in place. Then—look out.

Wow! Just......Wow! The governments are systematically taking away an individual’s ability to be in business for himself. With legislation such as this and Obamacare it won’t be long before everyone either is employed by a governmental entity or a large corporation.

I remember the good old days when the US government didn’t fund terrorist organizations that had perpetrated deadly attacks on the country. My, how far we have come from that time.

In truth, if our country had guarded its traditional values, we wouldn’t be in the state that we are in now! The solution is to bring back the “old” values—not create new ones.

I worry that the votes for and against have already been counted, determined that there are enough for cloture, and the most vulnerable Democrats up for re-election in 2014 are being given permission to vote no to up their pro-gun creds.
