The Michigan State Police organized a unique way to help a man who was threatening suicide on a highway overpass: they pulled together multiple semi truck drivers to help shorten the fall. Tuesday morning, all lanes of 696 were closed at Coolidge in both directions as a man threatened suicide. The first call came in a little before 1 a.m. on Tuesday as the unnamed man was on the bridge over the highway. The eastbound lanes were closed as MSP started organizing semi-truck passing through. A few minutes later, the westbound lanes were also closed as more semis showed up...

Clark County on Wednesday finished installing close to 800 steel posts between the street and sidewalks along the Las Vegas Strip to increase pedestrian safety. The posts, known as bollards, are interconnected by underground steel frames. They can withstand a head-on collision from a 15,000-pound vehicle traveling 50 mph. The posts were installed at seven locations between Tropicana Avenue and Spring Mountain Road. Next year the county plans to install 7,500 bollards along the Strip between Sahara Avenue and the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A man accused of accidentally shooting and killing a 27-year-old man at a dinner party that was live-streamed on Facebook Live would "trade places" with the man he's accused of killing, his attorney said. Steven Leannais, 30, made his first court appearance Monday following the shooting that killed Anthony Stanford II. Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Suzan Sweeney set his bond at $10,000. Leannais is charged with third-degree felony involuntary manslaughter. Defense attorney Leif Christman said that his client is "extremely sorry for what happened and extends his condolences to Anthony's mother, Mrs. (Trina) Ford." "If there was...

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- From shootings on the Strip to the killing of a liquor store clerk who couldn't open a safe to an April weekend that saw five slayings in separate cases, crime is spiking in the shadows in Las Vegas - and spurring questions about causes and cures. The local sheriff, police union officials and district attorney have various theories about what's behind the body count: 64 homicides by the end of April, compared with 29 killings after the first four months of 2015; 75 slayings as of Wednesday, compared with 45 by the same date last year.

Rand Paul had a good suggestion for the press last week: Why don’t you hacks start asking Democrats the same kind of loaded, gotcha, when-did-you-stop-beating-your-wife questions that you always throw at Republicans? Will never happen, of course — too many invitations to too many Beautiful People cocktail parties are at stake. But suppose the press were equal opportunity bashers? For example, what if Hillary Clinton had to answer some real questions today when she officially begins her campaign for president, er, queen? It’s easy to slant any question, even if it’s totally legit. For instance, Hillary was against gay marriage...
  • Report: Radio Shack To Sell Customers’ Personal Information In Bankruptcy Sale

When you go shopping, you probably think stores will keep your personal information safe and secure. But now, a report says Radio Shack is ready to auction off customer information as part of its bankruptcy sale. As CBS2’s Dick Brennan reported, the report says Radio Shack is ready to sell information they have on some 117 million customers, including names, addresses, phone numbers and other details on purchases. This despite the Radio Shack privacy policy, which says “We will not sell or rent your personally identifiable information to anyone at any time.” And some consumer experts say what Radio Shack...
  • Adriana Cohen: No man better than John Bolton for our top job

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton says he’s seriously considering a run for president in 2016 — and I can’t think of a better man for the job. Bolton told me, “I’m not saying no” Friday on “Boston Herald Drive.” He says he’ll make an official announcement soon. This is outstanding news both for our country and the GOP. With the rolling calamity of national security threats facing America here and abroad, Republicans need a candidate who is an experienced leader in foreign policy. They need someone who is an expert in international affairs and understands how to effectively deal with...

Introduction What really goes on in the back rooms of car dealerships across America? What does the car salesman do when he leaves you sitting in a sales office and goes to talk with his boss? What are the tricks salespeople use to increase their profit and how can consumers protect themselves from overpaying? These were the questions we, the editors at Edmunds.com, wanted to answer for our readers. But how could they really know that our information was accurate and up-to-date? Finally, we came up with the idea of hiring an investigative reporter to work in the industry and...

LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Federal agencies were working with Southwest Airlines on Thursday to determine who has been vandalizing their aircraft with mysterious markings. KNX 1070 investigative reporter Charles Feldman has learned that since February, several Southwest jets have been vandalized with mysterious writings that show up on the underbelly of their 737 passenger aircraft. The writings — which some have interpreted as being either Arabic or Arabic-type symbols — appeared to have been done with a chemical process that reveals the text once an auxiliary power unit is turned on and heats up the outside skin of the aircraft,...

MGM Resorts International today said it’s recommending to Clark County that the quarter-billion-dollar Harmon Hotel at CityCenter on the Las Vegas Strip be demolished because of construction defects. MGM Resorts said it is seeking Clark County Building Department approval to raze the empty, unused building. With that approval, MGM would then seek court approval for demolition. An initial proposed timetable calls for the demolition to be accomplished in six months, followed by five more months of debris cleanup and site restoration. At least $279 million had been invested in the building before construction was halted in early 2010 – with...

STAMFORD, Conn. — Police say a man was getting a haircut at an apartment in Stamford, Conn., when he grabbed scissors and slashed another man in the back. The Stamford Advocate reports that 21-year-old David Davis was arrested soon afterward when officers with a police dog found him in a nearby apartment. A police mug shot shows Davis with thick hair sticking up from only one side of his head. Authorities say the victim approached Davis during his haircut Tuesday in what he called "an aggressive manner." Davis told investigators he picked up the scissors in self-defense.
