A number of Notre Dame University faculty members are calling on an Illinois bishop who compared President Obama’s policies to those of Stalin and Hitler to renounce his comments or step down from the university’s Board of Fellows. In a letter sent Friday to University President Rev. John I. Jenkins and Board of Trustees chairman Richard C. Notebaert and published in full at the Peoria Journal Star Sunday night, the faculty members argue that Bishop Daniel Jenky demonstrated an “ ignorance of history, insensitivity to victims of genocide, and absence of judgment” with his comments during an April 14 homily....

Vice President Joe Biden visited the Florida Everglades on Monday to promote the Everglades Restoration Project and joked about his Secret Service detail threatening to shoot the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation commissioner. During his speech at Everglades National Park, Biden pointed out Commissioner Ronald Bergeron, who he said tried to convince him to visit the Everglades 10 years ago. Bergeron was appointed to the commission in 2007 by then Gov. Charlie Crist. “He wanted me to wrestle alligators. You all think I’m kidding. I’m not kidding. He’s one crazy son-of-a-gun. Where are you Ronnie? There he is.

During Vice President Joe Biden's campaign event at the Everglades, he referred to the national park as the 'Ever-gators.' "Back in '28 when it was built, they didn't realize that they effectivly created a dam through half of the Ever-gators - through half of the Everglades - cutting off the water supply that these wetlands depend upon," Biden said. Biden told the crowd that his Secret Service agent would "shoot the alligator" if he ended up in a wrestling match with one.

Microsoft has kicked off what it calls a "two-year countdown" to the death of Windows XP and the Office 2003 productivity suite. Separately, Microsoft announced that Windows Vista, the problem-plagued operating system that never really took hold among customers, exited mainstream support on April 10. In a product's extended support phase, Microsoft provides security patches to registered users but offers other fixes, including reliability and stability updates, only to organizations that have support contracts with the company. Windows XP and Office 2003 will no longer be supported as of April 8, 2014, a company spokeswoman said in a recent blog...

Hundreds of OWS training workshops took place this month throughout the country, in all 50 states, including small rural areas. Inside one of the training workshops, attendees report that OWS is “specifically instructed to go to any and all Tea Party gatherings, rallies, etc., to be confrontational and create havoc and disruption.” They are being trained to recruit and enlarge their numbers in their assigned geographic locations, to use the correct messaging, to incite any opponents, engage in confrontation, employ tactics to evade police blockades and create gridlock. OWS workshops are extremely organized and clearly well funded. Each workshop had...

The Obama administration’s use of executive power has gone further than the Bush administration’s toward diminishing Americans’ civil liberties, author John Yoo told The Daily Caller. “Somehow the Obama administration has increased the protections for terrorists, while at the same time reducing them for the rest of us law-abiding citizens in the United States,” Yoo said after a panel discussion on his new book “Taming Globalization” at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. Yoo was deputy assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice during the Bush administration. During his tenure, he...

ABC reporter and global warming enthusiast Bill Blakemore on Sunday condescendingly dismissed climate change skeptics as "denialists." In a piece on, he called for yet more advocacy on the part of journalists. After noting that confidence in the science of climate change has varied from year to year, Blakemore huffed that these beliefs "don't seem to be responding all that much, [Professor Jon Krosnick] says, to whatever the global warming denialist campaigns may have been doing." Blakemore then lectured meteorologists for not being biased enough: A number of America’s TV meteorologists and other broadcast weatherpersons have been accused by...

Under the guise of granting higher wages and healthcare benefits to daycare providers and personal care attendants, Connecticut’s Democratic-led state House has passed a bill that will force these workers to collectively bargain with the state. However, the director of the Connecticut chapter of Americans for Prosperity (AFP)said on Friday that the measure, proposed as an amendment to another bill, will force daycare providers to unionize with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). According to JR Romano of AFP in Connecticut, the bill is “a direct assault on female business owners.” State Sen. Edith Prague (D- Working Families Party) and...

On eight of 13 questions about politics, Republicans outscored Democrats by an average of 18 percentage points, according to a new Pew survey “Partisan Differences in Knowledge.” The Pew survey adds to a wave of surveys and studies showing that GOP-sympathizers are better informed, more intellectually consistent, more open-minded, more empathetic and more receptive to criticism than their fellow Americans who support the Democratic Party. “Republicans fare substantially better than Democrats on several questions in the survey, as is typically the case in...

Egypt informed Israel Sunday afternoon that it is unilaterally cancelling the agreement of supply of gas to Israel. The announcement was made to EMG, the firm that receives the gas from Egypt, and reported on Channel 2 news. The peace treaty with Egypt includes a financial appendix, in which Egypt agrees to supply Israel with oil. Several years ago the appendix was changed so that the oil was replaced by gas. The treaty commits Egypt to supply Israel with the amount of gas it requires for a specified period, in exchange for payment.

Two Jewish civilians were targeted by a sophisticated Arab roadside bomb Wednesday night near Hevron but escaped unhurt miraculously. The serious incident was hardly reported at all in the press, which was busy counting the number of blows dealt to anarchists who tried to block a major thoroughfare. Chaim Siton, a resident of Avigail in southern Mount Hevron, was driving home with a friend on the dark and largely deserted road, when he saw a piece of black fabric waving in the wind and thought it was a dog running toward the road. He braked slightly. This action may have...

The Washington Post reports that Mohamed Nasheed, the former president of Maldives, claims the United States has given legitimacy to the Islamist coup which deposed him. Mohamed Nasheed won the presidency in Maldives’s first multiparty elections in 2008, after a lifetime advocating democracy and human rights and several long stints in jail. Less than three years later, he was forced to resign by an angry mob of police officers and soldiers, in what he says was a coup engineered by his autocratic predecessor. “We have to have an election,” he said in an interview while visiting the Indian capital, New...

President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign in March raised $46.4 million and spent $37.7 million — not including money raised with the Democratic National Committee, new federal campaign finance filings indicate. That easily exceeded what presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney generated for March — $12.6 million — while still facing a stiff primary challenge from Rick Santorum, who’s since dropped out. Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee raised $7.3 million in March, not including Obama committee-related transfers. The DNC, which operated a joint fundraising committee with the Obama campaign, may use the money it raises to benefit Obama and other Democrats.

CBS's Bill Plante on Friday downplayed graphic photos of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan posing with severed body parts of suicide bombers as a GOP "distraction," insisting that Republicans were "somehow" trying to portray this (and other issues) as a failure of leadership. None of the networks wondered if this reflected poorly on Barack Obama. Since the Los Angeles Times first reported the 2010 pictures, ABC has only offered one report, airing on World News. CBS allowed a lone segment on the April 18 Evening News and a brief mention by Plante on Friday's This Morning. He spun, "...Republicans keep pointing

On a conference call this afternoon the FBI announced a reversal of their decision to cut off the intelligence sharing of information from the Terrorist Screening Center (TSC). The FBI shut down reporting to the 77 fusion centers on March 1st, and we reported on the shutdown yesterday. The FBI had announced that they would be resuming the TSC reporting, but without the Personal Information Intelligence (PII) that fusion centers had previously had access to (as I updated on the article yesterday afternoon). Fusion center officials had said yesterday that resuming the TSC reports without the PII would be
