"I don’t know how tax cuts will help. We already have excess capacity. I don’t think tax cuts will go into production or investment in new equipment. It might help some small firms survive. Probably we need to get involved in protectionism, although that can cut two ways. Only answer I see is massive deficit spending, followed by hyperinflation."

Tax cuts mean that social programs which is government spending will have to be cut. Tax cuts along with other red tape bureaucracy encourages growth in the private sector, which means jobs.

Protectionism will give to 50% unemployment instead of 25%. It didn't work for the soviets, and it won't work here.

Massive deficit spending leading to hyperinflation is not an answer, it's certain doom, and may already be a certainty.

"...but you're making the point that it wasn't really backed up gold."

Yes it was. During the gold standard monetary system years, paper notes were freely convertible into pre-set, fixed quantities of gold on demand.

But as I mentioned, the gold standard still relied on the honesty and integrity of governments, which failed miserably, and is why it's no longer used.

But, for arguments sake, Lets say all currencies today were gold and silver coinage of a set weight agreed to by international law.

There wouldn't be enough gold and silver in the world, and countries with large gold resources would have a monopoly, they'd be able to smelt all the money they wanted.

Mining it would be a huge capital expenditure however, because gold and silver wouldn't be worth a whole lot, probably well under $100 an ounce. In the 1933 when the dollar was tied to gold, it was worth $20.67 per troy ounce. The pressure from all currencies being tied to gold would have a suppressing effect on any gold price hikes, t wouldn't be free to trade on the open markets like it is today.

" would be nice if it were backed by something."

It is. GNP. Just like when it was backed by gold, when you print money that isn't backed by GNP, it's value goes down.

Why people have this thought that gold backed currencies are somehow more stable baffles me. When most currencies were backed by gold reserves, the same thing happened. Countries began printing money without having the gold assets to back it up.

That is what happened in the late 20's and helped kick off the depression, countries began printing money without the gold reserves to support it.

Because people aren't getting fat on fast food.,br> Instead, liquor stores and small convenience stores are "more likely to be the source of high-calorie snacks and soda consumed substantially more often by residents of South Los Angeles as compared to other parts of the city."

Oh nonsense. They are getting fat because they can only afford to buy cheap fatty foods, such as cheap fatty ground beef, fatty cheap cuts of beef and pork, fatty chicken, pasta, (kraft dinner) bread and bologna.

They can't keep blaming fat America on fast food joints and potato chips.
They should look at the truth- easily obtained welfare handouts, and foodbanks, -excessive liberalism- are also the cause of ever expanding butts and bellies. A single mother with 2 kids on welfare, with "only" an $1800 welfare check to live off of for a month, has to make tough decisions.

Should she buy expensive fresh vegetables, lean cuts of meats, fruits and healthy snaks to feed her children, participate in free after school community club activities which include community sports for her children to get involved in?

Or should she buy a few lumps of crack, a bottle of JD, a case a beer, pass out and then sleep all day until the hurting starts, and just order a bucket of KFC or a pizza to feed the kids as they sit around watching TV or play video games, while she goes out to score more crack and booze?

The majority of the nations fat is caused by the nanny state itself. It promotes lazy destructive lifestyles, which they then blame on hard working taxpayers.

But prices are creeping up. The medias is just ignoring it. Your grocery bag now costs 32% more than it did last year. Obama media howqever, looks at the price of oil and uses that as it's inflation guide. Oil dropped $4 a barrel, so hence there is no inflation in their eyes. Our dollar is hovering around .76.2 cents, down from .95+ cents in January. That alone is a 20 cent reduction in spending power. Plus pump prices for gasoline haven't followed the drop in oil prices like they followed it when barrel prices were rising. You can see from these two things alone the massive amount of inflation that we have had over the past year.

Why? Our dollar isn't tied to theirs.

All this will do is cause inflation in AU as their currency rises in value in comparison to others, making imported goods more expensive, and AU exports more expensive and non-competitive.

While interest rates are bound to rise in the USA, it will be to stabilize our sinking dollar and to attract some investment interest in it to counter Obama's over use of ink and paper. It won't help much though, because there is no value tied to those dollars, whereas other countries like Au and Canada will see their currencies continue to rise because theirs are based on their commodities exports.

"his “revelations” corresponded to his desires, and so he had sex with a 9 year old wife."

Although Modern Scholars say 9, and some hadith and sura's were altered, (poorly) careful reading shows that Aisha was in fact only 6 years old when he raped her, destroying her at the same time, which is why she was never able to have kids.

    1. Aisha's parents never moved to Medina after Mohammad was expelled from Mecca. But the rape took place in her parents home in Mecca.

    2. Aisha claims a "nurse" took her off a swing, wiping her face. SHe was taken by her hand and was "breathless" from being walked from the swing to the "house"(most likely a tent or mud walled tent) and placed on the pedophile's lap.

    3. In those times, a "nurse" was a wet nurse, a slave or lower order person who breast fed the young children so that the wife could resume her husbandly duties sooner, go on trade caravans etc.
Even in those times, 9 year olds weren't breast fed. Aisha's description puts the nurse on the swing, and her on her lap breast feeding, which is why her face needed wiping.

    4. A nine year old wouldn't be out of breath trying to keep up with a wet nurse in that short distance from the swing to the house. she would probably be able to outrun her in fact.

    5. A nine year old wouldn't need to be "put" in Mohammad's lap. He was probably sitting on the ground as well. They didn't make furniture in Mecca at the time. There was no wood there. They couldn't even make a roof over the Ka'aba (rock god temple)

    6. Mohammad was kicked out of Mecca shortly after he "married" Aisha, so she had to still be six, or even younger.

    7. The order of events confirms that Aisha was only six. Her parents were dead when Mohammad returned to Mecca and slaughter the tribe (his own tribe) which expelled him. That is also when he quit calling his god "Ar-Rahman" and took the name "Allah" which is what the Meccan rock god worshipers called the black stone.

The bible doesn't "agree" with the Koran anywhere.

Some of Mohammad's stories were tricks played on him by the Medina Jews.
Mohammad was trying to convince them that he was a prophet. He had sent a spy to mingle with the Jews and gather bible scripture. The Jews knew of this spy, and fed him fables. Mohammad would then repeat these back to the Jews at one of his gatherings, and the Jews would laugh at him.

Mohammad found out, which is why 3/4 of the Koran is a rant against Jews.
    Afterwards he slaughtered them all.

    "Is the Qur’an Accurate?"

How can a work of fiction be accurate?

Does this- the words of Allah, the one and only Islamic Moon god, whose word cannot be questioned- sound accurate?:

Qur'an 18:83 "They ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnain [Alexander the Great]. Say, 'I will cite something of his story. We gave him authority in the land and means of accomplishing his goals. So he followed a path until he reached the setting place of the sun. He saw that it set in black, muddy, hot water. Near it he found people."

Or Allah's profound wisdom shown here:

Qur'an 67:3 "We created seven heavens, one above the other. Muhammad, can you see any fault in Ar-Rahman's [what Mohammad named his god before he slaughtered the Meccans and stole the "allah" name, which is what the pagan rock worshipers called their black rock god] creation? Look again: Can you see any rifts or fissures? Then look again and yet again. Your gaze turns back dazed and tired. We have adorned the lowest skies with lamps, and We have made them missiles to drive away the devils and against the stone Satans, and for them We have prepared the doom of Hell and the penalty of torment in the most intense Blazing Fire."

Now the works of IBN Ishaq, which describes what Islam really is and who Mohammad really was, that's accurate.

It has to be. It was the only accounting of Mohammad ever written within 100 years of his death. If Ishaq wrong, Islam can't exist. Nobody else can have it right. All other Muslim scholars, like Bukhari,(written 800 years after Mohammads death) Islam, Hisham etc. take from those original works, leaving out the most brutal and embarrassing stuff of course.

No way, they should get a Nobel Prize. If AL Gore and Arafat can get one, these people should be a shoe in.

Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.

So, just who, or what are the names of all these community associations that form this association?

How do these individual organizations run ACORN, where is ACORN's constitution, and how are all grants/contributions to ACORN used or divided up between these (so far nameless) community organizations, how much and by which community org. for what reason? (Frog Racing Community Club of Chicago?)

Or, is ACORN a fake "association" and only associated with itself?

"I would like to disclose all the freebies I have been sent. Would somebody please send me some freebies? I don't seem to be on that list. "

I'd just like to know how I get paid for reviewing a company's products on my blog.

    "Review: Ferrari's suck".

    Now where's my check?
