Justin Wilson was airlifted to a nearby hospital for a head injury after a crash in the closing laps of Sunday's IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway. He suffered a severe head injury and is in a coma and critical condition. The crash occurred with 21 laps to go when race leader Sage Karam spun in turn 1 and debris from his car hit Justin Wilson. Wilson then, seemingly unconscious, veered off and had a head-on collision with the inside wall, which was protected by a SAFER barrier.

A controversy between Macon City Council and the city administration over houses built by the city with federal funds has been simmering for the past couple of years. Now the issue has come to full boil. During a City Council Public Properties Committee meeting last week, several council members blasted Mayor Robert Reichert and Wanzina Jackson, the city’s director of the Economic and Community Development Department, about repeat issues pointed out in city audits that are related to that department. The main question from the council: Has the city spent money from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development...

Election Day is, at least in part, held together by rubber bands, pencil grips and duct tape. Not to mention homemade brownies and shortbread cookies. At the polls Tuesday, while Georgians are electing their next governor, behind the scenes and the voting machines, everyday office supplies and occasional baked goods will serve the democratic process as well as any public servant. On Monday, the back room at the Bibb County Board of Elections, what with all the hard-plastic bins crammed full of notebooks and how-to-vote postings and pens and electronic-ballot cards, seemed more like the drop point for a camping...

A Warner Robins couple faces murder and cruelty to children charges after medical crews found their 2-year-old son starved to death inside their home. 23-year-old Sade Shamon King and 25-year-old William Thomas Davis III are in the Houston County Jail without bond. Investigators and neighbors say there are many unanswered questions about why D'Shawn Davis was isolated and neglected for nearly a year inside his Tiffany Place home. JoAnn Smith, a neighbor, says she was shocked when the couple who lived next door were arrested Tuesday and accused of starving their son. "Believe it or not. There's food in the...

Almost two years later, the state has yet to recoup all the money, according to a report from the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts. The Labor Department says it is still trying to recover $115,000.

ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE - Frankly, the future of Joint STARS at Robins Air Force Base is sitting precariously between a rock and a hard place. On one side, the cantankerous, underpowered, 40-year-old JT3D engines that power the ground surveillance jet must be replaced in short order. Heroic -- and very expensive -- maintenance to keep the vital system flying can't continue indefinitely. Degraded aircraft availability, diminished flight efficiency and inadequate onboard power will eventually push the weapon system past the point of viability. On the other hand, the rising cost of re-engining...
