Just recently started a new job and I feel very lucky but I really despise it. I am starting at a pretty descent salary but it's not as important as the miracle of finding any employment in Obama's economy. I have to drive a long way to and fro and mostly through idiot filled DC traffic and I swear nobody actually watches the road anymore, they just tap on the smart phones. It takes about three hours a day to commute (1.5hr each way) so I'm no longer seeing my kids and eating meals with my family six days a...

Having a problem with a new home we are about to close on. We have been blessed to be able to get a new home built to most of my wife's specs. I would just have hoped for a little bigger but this home is is a wonderful suburb in the western portion of Northern VA in Prince William County. We chose this isolated subdivision because it was close to everything, but out of the way. It is near schools (about 1/3 of a mile walking), several modes of public transpo and close to both churches and a pre-school for...

Have a question about a mortgage item. We are in the process of finalizing mortgages and we have excellent credit (over 800). We currently have two companies vying for our business and each has offered "lenders credit" towards closing costs. It sounds nice but I'm not really sure that at the end of the day, it will lower our mortgage much since our closing costs are all out of pocket. Actually, I'm not really sure what exactly a "lenders credit" is.. Help.
  • Home Inspection advice- vanity

Need advice regarding home inspections. We will be purchasing a new build and are talking to a few sources for home inspection and I'm not sure what I should be doing. In previous buys, we got a final inspection but those homes were pre-existing. For a new build, we will have several opportunities to "preview" certain stages of the build primarily the foundation laying, pre-drywall, and pre-closing. This is a reputable builder in Norther Virginia that is providing a ten year warranty on structural/roofing, plumbing and electric. Should we have a structural engineer inspection, independent of the final home inspection...

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- A police bomb squad in New Jersey's largest city is using a robot to examine a vehicle containing what appears to be two gasoline canisters connected by wires to a device. The Dodge Omni is parked about six car lengths from a railroad overpass in Newark that serves Amtrak and NJ Transit trains. The trains are still running. Police have blocked off the section of the street below the overpass so traffic cannot go under the tracks. The area is a mostly residential section near a main thoroughfare in Newark. Last month, 30-year-old Faisal Shahzad pleaded...

"He had an absolute conniption because it's supposed to be in pen," said Pantelakos-Barstow, adding the voter cast a new ballot, while "ranting and raving that it was a Diebold machine." The ward moderator said the voter left, but soon returned to report AccuVote machines are manufactured by Diebold, before loudly complaining that the machines are unreliable and "caused elections to be lost,"
