While we can thank the National Catholic Register for pointing out that Public Comments Overwhelmingly Oppose the HHS Mandate, we can also spread the word that anyone can very easily submit and register public comments online at this link.

An injectable form of birth control doubles breast cancer risk among young women, according to a new study. The study examined younger women, ages 20 to 44, and confirmed a link between depo-medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA) - the main ingredient in the contraceptive sold under the brand name Depo-Provera - and breast cancer risk.

It’s normal to wonder if anyone is paying attention. As humans, our lives don’t seem to have meaning absent our communications and interactions with others. And as Christians, the influence our own lives has on others is of great import; our salvation in some way depends on whether we are channels for and bearers of His love. This goal is summed up in the lyrics of the alma mater song for Ave Maria’s law school, the Ave Maria project (in its many forms) serves as a “beacon in darkness, voice for all to hear.” Of course we typically toil away...

Going back to the aspirin belief, if you are determined to use it as a form of birth control, I will leave you with the following suggestion: the only way that an aspirin can prevent pregnancy is for a woman to carefully place it between her knees and HOLD it there (by keeping her knees and therefore her legs) closed. ☺

The utterly predictable master of deception and dishonesty - the always biased and never professional Andrea Mitchell - is breathlessly indignant about a very mild piece of advice that has been and remains a humorous and polite way to get across the point that the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy and disease is to not have sex - aka to keep an aspirin between your knees. I invite readers to post all the pre-Santorum-faux-kerfuffle instances of the aspirin-between-the-knees maxim. I will start with some I found.

The Whispers in the Loggia blog (WITL) has obtained a bishops-only internal briefing that was circulated soon after President Obama’s announcement of his HHS regulation “compromise.”...what follows “is the text of tonight’s internal, bishops-only briefing, obtained by Whispers and signed by the aforementioned quintet: the conference president, Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan of New York, and the bench’s committee chairs for Pro-Life Activities, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston; Doctrine, Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington; Domestic Policy, Bishop Stephen Blaire of Stockton, and the newly-formed arm on Religious Liberty, Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport.” Here is the briefing:

The Obama administration is willing to work with Catholic universities, hospitals and other church-affiliated employers to implement a new policy that requires health insurers to offer birth control coverage, a top adviser to the president's re-election campaign said on Tuesday...Over the weekend, Catholic clergy across the country called for congregations to protest the rule and pressure Obama to back down. "To force American citizens to choose between violating their consciences and forgoing their healthcare is literally unconscionable," said Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, in a statement last month. Jim...

Girls as young as 13 have been fitted with contraceptive implants at school without their parents knowing. The procedure was carried out in Southampton, Hants, as part of a government initiative to drive down teenage pregnancies. As many as nine secondary schools in the city are thought to have been involved. But it has caused a backlash from parents who weren't aware that their daughters had been fitted with the 4cm device, which sits under the skin. It is currently unknown exactly how many youngsters have taken part in the scheme.

A national controversy over contraception is hitting home in Southwest Florida. "You talk about religious intolerance, this is about as bad as it gets," Ave Maria University President Jim Towey said. A new provision under President Obama's Affordable Health Care Act will require most church-affiliated employers to blanket free birth control under their health insurance plans. Ave Maria University is just one of the institutions forced to change their coverage. "We certainly understand universities that was to provide contraceptive services. People can disagree on that issue. But nobody should be obliged to violate it's moral principles and conscience," Towey said...

Precinct 594 in Collier County, Florida, includes the largely Catholic and politically aware community of Ave Maria, Florida. The Catholic flavor in town is decidedly on the orthodox side of the spectrum (you know, the people who treat the non-negotiable issues – such as abortion and traditional marriage – as if they were non-negotiable, and who treat the prudential issues – such as how to care for the poor and whether a war is just – as if they were prudential issues upon which people of good will can disagree). The GOP primary results indicate that Ave Marians favored fellow...

Early in May, she went out to Ohio for her mother's birthday. A day and a half went by and Newt didn't return her calls, which was strange. They always talked every day, often ten times a day, so she was frantic by the time he called to say he needed to talk to her. "About what?" He wanted to talk in person, he said. "I said, 'No, we need to talk now.' " He went quiet. "There's somebody else, isn't there?" She kind of guessed it, of course. Women usually do. But did she know the woman was in...

Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who’s made his crusade to slash federal spending the cornerstone of his GOP presidential run, has been habitually flying first class at taxpayer expense. Paul has jetted first class on at least 31 round-trip flights and 12 one-way flights since May 2009 to travel between Washington and his Texas district, according to an Associated Press review of congressional office expenses. Another four round-trip tickets and two one-way tickets were eligible for upgrades to first class. The records did not reveal if the upgrade was made. Paul’s first-class flights on Continental Airlines cost taxpayers nearly $52,000 since...

GOP candidate Ron Paul is again under fire for incendiary racial statements mailed out under his name in the late 1980s and 1990s, though a past interview appears to be at odds with the Texas congressman’s most recent declaration that he knew nothing about the inflammatory comments at the time.
