Gerald Celente Trends Research Institute - 2010 Trends

The Collapse of 2010 In November of 2007, we predicted the "Panic of ’08." There was a panic. In November of 2008, we forecast the "Collapse of ’09." In March ‘09, the global equity markets collapsed. But before they could crash all the way to the ground, a scaffold of emergency props was erected. An unparalleled array of government cash infusions, rescue packages, bailouts and incentives papered over the crisis. Today, even as government spokesmen and the major media proclaim that the world is emerging from its near-cataclysmic recession, we predict the "Crash of 2010." The rising equity markets, on...

Is there a blood test to verify H1N1? (Vanity)

Calling all medical field FReepers. I need to get to the bottom of an issue currently being debated by our corporate pandemic planning team. Is there or is there not a blood test that doctor offices can do to determine if there someone is infected with H1N1? If yes, then what is the specific test name? Information given says the nasal/throat swab test is only 70-75% accurate. Is a blood test more accurate and can it be requested by patients in the doctor's office? Thanks - OB1

Fed Beige Book: Conditions Deteriorated Further, Sees No Significant Pickup Until At Least Late '09

Reports from the twelve Federal Reserve Districts suggest that national economic conditions deteriorated further during the reporting period of January through late February. Ten of the twelve reports indicated weaker conditions or declines in economic activity; the exceptions were Philadelphia and Chicago, which reported that their regional economies "remained weak." Consumer spending remained very weak on balance, albeit with slight firming noted by many Districts, particularly compared with holiday-season sales that were very disappointing. Reports on nonfinancial services indicated significant drops in activity accompanied by widespread job cuts. Providers of health-care services reported falling patient volumes, which were attributed in...

IMF seeks $500-billion to double lending capacity

The International Monetary Fund says the financial crisis could push as many as 16 nations into default, and that it will need to double its lending capacity to mount an appropriate response. In a 31-page report released today in Washington, the fund argues that it will need the equivalent of about $500-billion (U.S.) to prop up governments that have been crushed by the collapse of the global economy. The report specifically noted that there's a high likelihood that more nations in Eastern Europe will come to the IMF for help. “The institution's global membership, as well as its capacity to...

Fed sees deepening economic pain this year

WASHINGTON - The Federal Reserve on Wednesday sharply downgraded its projections for the country’s economic performance this year, predicting the economy will actually shrink and unemployment will rise higher. ...Fed officials anticipated that unemployment would remain “substantially” higher than normal at the end of 2011 “even absent further economic shocks.”

What Are Your Favorite Business/Economy Related Podcasts?

I'm trying to get a broader understanding of this current global economic mess we are in. I have a two hour daily commute to work each day. Rather than listening to the radio I would prefer downloading interesting podcasts of FReeper recommended favorite business/economic related interviews and news and listening to them on my way to and from work. I've downloaded some recent interviews with various economists, and a few weekly internet business newscasts, but quite frankly I've had difficulty finding a variety of the type of business related podcasts I'm searching for. I would greatly appreciate it if you...

Large U.S. banks on edge of insolvency, experts say

Some of the large banks in the United States, according to economists and other finance experts, are like dead men walking. A sober assessment of the growing mountain of losses from bad bets, measured in today's marketplace, would overwhelm the value of the banks' assets, they say. The banks, in their view, are insolvent.....

Is Wal-Mart's Shortage of Ammunition for Real? (A Personal Investigation)

A week or so ago I read in a FReeper thread where someone made the claim that Wal-Mart was running out of ammunition and apparently lacked the resources to restock it quickly. I thought to myself, surely this can't be true. Afterall, Wal-Mart is huge enough to have access to unlimited supply to anything they choose to sell. I mean, they are Wal-Mart. So, this past weekend I decided to conduct my own investigation into this claim. On my way home from work Friday evening I stopped by three Wal-Mart's and visited their Sporting Goods (SG) department to buy some...

Obama: ‘Only Government’ Can Fix What Ails Us…

In giving the broad outlines of his economic stimulus program on Thursday, Sen.
Burris Consulting With Attorneys After Being Barred From Senate

WASHINGTON -- Roland Burris headed to Capitol Hill Tuesday to demand a seat in the 111th Congress, insisting that if he isn't allowed to take the oath of office as the next senator from Illinois, the Senate could have a lawsuit on its hands. Participating in the theatrics, Burris was greeted by Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer, a door-keeper and an official from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office before going to the appointment desk on the third floor and to the secretary of the Senate. There, his credentials were denied. Burris was appointed by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who...

To all my fellow FReepers who have served their country in the armed forces, first of all, thank you for your service. I need your advice. More specifically, my son needs your advice.
Catching Wild Pigs (A Parable For American Voters - Vanity)

Catching Wild Pigs - A chemistry professor in a large college had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting Communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new Communist government. In the midst of his story...

Why I'm Voting Democrat (Read before zotting)

I'm voting Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would, and I know that they will take care of me if I ever lack for anything. I’m voting Democrat because freedom of religion is good as long as God the Father or His Son Jesus is never ever mentioned or prayed to in our schools, colleges, and public offices, however, Muslim footwashing stations in our airports and special prayer rooms in...

Patriotic Songs for Independence Day (Vanity Request)

A request for assistance from all you patriot FReepers. My daughter will be the featured singer on one of our local TV morning programs this coming Friday, the 4th. She'll be accompanying herself on the acoustic guitar and perhaps the piano, depending on the songs selected. I would greatly appreciate your suggestions as to current/recent patriotic song titles for her to consider singing that have come out since the Iraq war, and that may fit the occasion to pay honor and gratitude to our men and women serving in our armed forces. Thanks for your help. - OB1

Mark your wives: The 1930s marriage test

American psychologists have unearthed a “marital rating scale” used by marriage counsellors in 1939 to assess the performance of wives – and the categories make interesting reading for modern couples brought up to believe in the equality of the sexes. Women are awarded marks if they dress for breakfast, ask their husband’s opinions on important decisions and let their partners sleep late on Sundays and holidays.....

US Muslims Call on Obama for Change

As the US city of Philadelphia prepares for its most closely watched political primary in generations one significant part of the population seems to have already picked their man. Muslim-American community leaders, activists and voters in the city of brotherly love, as Philadelphia is known, say Barack Obama is by far their preferred candidate. Philadelphia's Muslim community is one of the most significant, in terms of size and in terms of prominence, of all US cities. There are up to 70,000 people worshipping in 34 mosques in the city alone, leading one local leader to describe Philadelphia as "a Mecca...

Key Huckabee Backer in Michigan Is Obama Man

Both the Byzantine nature of the Michigan presidential primary -- as well as the crucial importance of the January 15 contest -- were underscored by the news that one of Mike Huckabee’s major boosters in the primary is actually supporting Barack Obama for President. State Rep. LaMar Lemmons of Detroit, a Democrat and African-American, recently unveiled “Democrats for Huckabee” to urge crossover votes for the former Arkansas governor January 15.....

Huckabee's Misguided "Compassion"

The problem with former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee isn't his funny name, which brings to mind a character in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. (What kind of a name is Mitt, anyway?) It's not the fact that he strums a guitar or that, other than governing Arkansas for a decade, his principal claim to fame is losing 110-lbs. What scares me about Huckabee is that he's a practitioner of the ghastly art of political compassion. He could even be one of those compassionate conservatives we've heard so much about -- except he's not a conservative. Huckabee's stock is rising.
