Posthumously yours, Stanley Williams* By David Howard December 20, 2005 NOTE: David Howard, of Ojai, is a peace activist and writer who held a candle for Williams at the Ventura County Government Center on the night of the execution. Dear Arnold Schwarzenegger, I've been dead for a few days now. You've probably already forgotten about me and moved on to more important matters like condemning gay marriage, helping the Minutemen keep Mexicans out of California, and preparing another diatribe to deny clemency to Clarence Allen, the 75-year-old blind Choctaw Indian you'll execute Jan. 17. Still, I beseech you -- once...

OK Freepers - I need your feedback/opinion. My folks are getting up there in years and my mother would like some kind of "alert" system in the event she falls down while my father is away. She has beginning Parkinson's so her motor movement aren't the best. I know there are alerts she can wear around her neck, phone call type of systems, etc. I'd love to have your comments on what's out there and what works.

  • Need help researching Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (Vanity)

I and a couple of other Ventura County Freepers are going back to school next week. We are taking some political science classes and starting up a chapter of David Horowitz's Students for Academic Freedom. I know some of the professors at the local community college are involved with a Santa Barbara peace group called Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. I'm trying to get some background information on them - I read their material and it is very anti-Bush and very pro-U.N. As stated on their website "The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation is a non-profit, non-partisan international education and advocacy organization....

  • After-Action Report - Santa Barbara/Ventura

We had a very, very successful day at Santa Barbara City College with our counter display against the "Iraq Memorial" put together by the commie group Veterans for Peace. The "Iraq Memorial" is also called "Arlington West" and is 1,000 small wooden crosses stuck in the ground with the names of the American soldiers that have lost their lives so far in the war. Nice sentiment but too bad the Veterans for Peace feel that it is necessary to use this platform to push their anti-war, anti-American agenda. There are lots of informational posters put up that talk about the...

The Plaza Park Coalition sponsored the peace vigil, attracting 50 to 60 people, old and young alike, to show support for peace and mourn the deaths of more than 1,000 U.S. soldiers in Iraq. We had a great turnout in Ventura today! There were 50 to 70 people at our rally, the local paper was there and our rally was the school project for a local photographic institute so tons of pictures were taken. Thousands of cars drove by at this busy intersection so we had tons of drive-by support. PacPam and Mr. Pacpam were there as well as Moonmad27, Ben Lurkin and Mrs. Ben Lurkin. I handed out lots of FreeRepublic business cards to potential new freepers(I ordered the cards from an on-line business card service - they are very cheap, look great...

Veterans try to resurrect divisiveness of the '60s When a president takes this nation to war -- and make no mistake, while the Constitution gives Congress the authority to declare war, it is the president as commander in chief who decides and gives the order to go to war -- he had better have his facts right, his justifications airtight and his moral compass above reproach. If not, people die needlessly and the president breaks faith with his oath of office. Forty years ago today, President Johnson signed the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, which handed him unprecedented power "to take...

I know DoughtyOne has a ton of stuff to put up regarding our trip but the natives are restless and all of us want to share our incredible experiences and pictures! There are so many FReepers to thank for making the day such a success. We probably had 50 to 60 FReepers and friends at our peak. I'd like to start off with thanking Hi Heels for putting together breakfast at Marie Callenders and especially the beautiful graveside memorial for President Reagan. Hi Heels had a P.A. system that she brought in; a beautiful printed program; and an incredible service....

Cards, flowers, donations pour in to Reagan Library Mourning in America exhibit opens today Since former President Ronald Reagan died almost one month ago, the cards and letters to his library in Simi Valley have come by the thousands. In all, about 15,000 pieces of mail have arrived at 40 Presidential Drive, along with a few thousand more at Reagan's Century City office. With those letters of condolence have come donations to Reagan's Memorial Fund established by the...

So far we have about 35 Freepers that have expressed an interest in the Reagan Library Road Trip and BarBQue scheduled for August 1st. The plan is we will meet for a late breakfast (8:30am) somewhere in Simi Valley (location TBA); head over to the Library for a special tour right when it opens up and then a BarBQue over at Rabid Dog's house in the afternoon. I think we should all make sure we have a sign on our car that is very visible because we are going to be taking up a lot of room both at...
