  • Three Reasons Why Popular Support for “Universal Background Checks” Doesn’t Matter

"When it comes to gun control and the Second Amendment, Democrats and Republicans are deeply divided except for a few safety measures such as background checks on gun sales,” huffingtonpost.com reports, analyzing a Pew Research report released Friday. (Click here to read.) Pew examines the pew-pew views of Trump and Clinton supporters. The results aren’t surprising, but they are revealing. Both candidates’ supporters favor “background checks for private and gun show sales” by a wide margin. Here are three reasons why the supposedly pro-gun Trump voters’ support for “universal background checks” (UBC’s) is irrelevant.

Officers arrested a 38-year-old man Wednesday in downtown Seattle after he attacked three people with a baseball bat. Around 10 AM, the suspect approached a 39-year-old man at Westlake Park and asked for a cigarette. When the man declined, the suspect brandished his bat and struck the victim in the arm.

“We started to find out that people actually can get guns without a background check,” said Daniel, who lives in Illinois, where all gun purchasers must pass a background check. “As naive as I was back then, I thought because I go through a background check, everybody did. So we start to find out about all these loopholes that we have in our laws.” Since his sister’s death, Daniel has pushed lawmakers to expand criminal background checks beyond licensed dealers to private sellers, such as those who advertise on Armslist. That is where Radcliffe found the seller of the gun...

Socialist Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) told supporters in Vermont on Monday that although his presidential campaign is over, the grass-roots revolution he inspired will continue in the form of a new non-profit organization. "[W]hen you capture by large majorities -- the young people of this country -- it means that our ideas, our vision, is the future of this country," Sanders said. "So tonight I want to introduce you to a new independent non-profit organization called Our Revolution, which is inspired by the historic Bernie 2016 presidential campaign.

Antarctica has confounded scientists, defying the dire predictions of scientists the South Pole would shrink and exacerbate sea level rise in the coming decades. Climate models predicted Antarctic sea ice would shrink as the world warmed, and that warming would boost snowfall over the southern continent. Neither of those predictions have panned out, and now scientists say “natural variability” is overwhelming human-induced warming. “Truth is, the science is complex, and that in most places and with most events, natural variability still plays a dominant role, and undoubtedly will continue to do so,” Chip Knappenberger, a climate scientist with the libertarian...

Another fallacy that is disabused in this survey (which states it follows in a long line of other surveys) is that more background checks will change anything in terms of how criminals get guns. Since they typically do not walk into an FFL making background checks more demanding, is not going to decrease the use of guns in crimes. For ordinary citizens, they must and do comply with the gun laws no matter how they acquire their guns. As I stated previously, it appears to me the anti-gun people are creating laws to restrict the activities of law-abiding citizens. That...

Yes, both candidates make personal attacks on their rivals, but there is no parity in how the two parties stigmatize opponents. Democrat vitriol is liberally applied not just to Trump, but to all his supporters. Chatting with a California man who had biked across America, I remarked that it must have been interesting to talk with people across the country. His answer? "Are you crazy? I didn't talk to anyone. They're all rednecks." Character assassination is the liberal weapon of choice against ordinary people. Democrats bully everyone to obey their rules on what we may think and say and do....

The Washington Post is unsurprisingly in love with the new Obama-puffing film about Barack and Michelle’s first date. Movie critic Ann Hornaday won the prize for the biggest gush, comparing Obama to young Abe Lincoln: Like the warm summer day it chronicles, Southside With You possesses a mellow, languorous vibe, an infectious easygoing charm that insinuates itself gently, then seductively, as the couple at its center experiences the stirrings of what might be true love. That the two young people in question are named Barack Obama and Michelle Robinson almost feels like an afterthought in Richard Tanne’s modest but enormously...

Talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh made an important point on Monday when he stated that the establishment press (mainstream media) is almost singularly spearheading the presidential campaign of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The candidate is keeping a surprisingly low profile, leaving her surrogates in the press to focus on diminishing her opponent on a daily basis. Now, we realize that the press almost singularly spearheaded the presidential campaign of one Barack Hussein Obama in 2008, but in that case the candidate was spry enough to participate vigorously in his campaign, rather than being held together with duct tape and...

Since the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School, we've founded a gun violence prevention organization, Americans for Responsible Solutions, and criss-crossed the nation, speaking out about the commonsense solutions, like closing loopholes in our criminal background check laws for gun sales, that have been proven to reduce gun violence and save lives. We've met with gun violence survivors, legislators and testified before Congress. We've heard from those on the front lines of our national gun violence crisis. We've worked with veterans, law enforcement, businessmen and women, members of the clergy, and domestic violence prevention leaders.

As the fall semester begins, parents, students, taxpayers and donors should be made aware of official college practices that should disgust us all. Hampshire College will offer some of its students what the school euphemistically calls "identity-based housing." That's segregated housing for students who — because of their race, culture, gender or sexual orientation — have "historically experienced oppression." I'd bet the rent money that Hampshire College will not offer Jewish, Irish, Polish, Chinese or Catholic students segregated housing. If Donald Trump should win the presidency, I hope he will be able to prevail upon Mike Rowe to be his Secretary of Education and lead a desperately needed reform and restructuring of American education. For Rowe understands the serious harm being inflicted upon Americans by the worship of college as the essential first step into the workforce, and the utter disdain and lack of support for vocation skill training. The unpopular truth is that most blacks are not interested in achievement as such nor moral propriety. Most are motivated to make white people pay for some perceived injustice, past and/or present. Whites were not singularly responsible for the slave trade; Muslims played the greater role and continue to at this very time in history. The new comedy War Dogs tells the true story of two cynical young men who took advantage of bureaucratic failures to become successful weapons dealers. These two men — who sold weapons to the government during the Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq —ultimately secured a $300 million contract with the United States military. The film, which was inspired by a true story, operates as both a comedy and a hard-to-imagine drama that shows how these two guys in their twenties were able to take advantage of a lax governmental policy.

BUSHNELL (FOX 13) - A Sumter County man says he is unfairly being charged with violating the state's alligator poaching law after he tried to protect his livestock. President Barack Obama said in his weekly address today that he had set aside “more than 265 million acres of public lands and waters” as national parks and monuments, which is “more than any administration in history.” Among the national monuments he created, Obama said in his weekly address, was “Stonewall.” This monument commemorates riots that took place in 1969. Citing Yosemite and Yellowstone national parks, leading into his citation of Stonewall, Obama said: “As President, I’m proud to have built upon America’s tradition of conservation.” The president said in his June 24 proclamation [1] creating the “Stonewall National Monument:”...
  • Mike Rowe: Celebrities Only Encourage Their Fans To Vote So Liberals Will Get Elected

“Every four years, celebrities and movie stars look earnestly into the camera and tell the country to ‘get out and vote.’ They tell us it’s our ‘most important civic duty,’ and they speak as if the very act of casting a ballot is more important than the outcome of the election. This strikes me as somewhat hysterical. Does anyone actually believe that Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen DeGeneres, and Ed Norton would encourage the ‘masses’ to vote, if they believed the ‘masses’ would elect Donald Trump?”

The black nationalist terrorists of Black Lives Matter are about to get a huge injection of left-wing cash to help them kill more cops and burn more businesses to the ground. (My takedown of BLM appeared a few months ago in American Thinker.) Underwriting this mayhem are the Ford Foundation and Borealis Philanthropy which are creating something they call the Black-Led Movement Fund (BLMF), a six-year pooled donor campaign that seeks to generate $100 million for the Movement for Black Lives coalition.

Just when U.S. airlines are experiencing an active summer travel season, with four percent more passengers expected than last summer’s banner year, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) weighs in on the industry. Their recent verdict: “planet-warming pollution produced by airplanes endangers human health by contributing to climate change.” Such is the basis for their “endangerment finding” under the Clean Air Act, which now triggers the legal requirement to impose the first-ever government regulations of aircraft emissions and extend the EPA’s reach into yet another segment of the U.S. economy. The announced plan to reduce aircraft emissions takes place as President...

The State Department was unable to find any records showing that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton completed ethics training courses, as required by federal law. Furthermore, no documentation was found for a bevy of top Clinton aides, including names familiar from the Clinton email scandal, such as Cheryl Mills, Huma Abedin, Jake Sullivan, Dennis Cheng, Anne Marie Slaughter, Phillippe Reines, Caitlin Klevorick, and Kris Bladerston. The lack of ethics documentation was revealed by the Republican National Committee, which had to squeeze the admission out of the State Department with a lawsuit, after the department failed to comply with a Freedom...

The party’s over for Malia Obama! After RadarOnline.com released the shocking video of an eyewitness accusing President Obama‘s 18-year-old daughter of smoking pot, furious Barack confronted the teen on their summer vacation, said a source. The source said that Barack went into crisis mode after the “First Wild Child” had to be hauled out of a house party on Martha’s Vineyard — just before local cops went in for a raid! Sgt. Skip Manter with the West Tisbury Police Department confirmed that neighbors “complained about noise.” Malia, 18, was hurried out of the rowdy bash by Secret Service right before...

"Art and music don't have boundaries," United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon tells THR about Brett Ratner and James Packer's upcoming TV miniseries (production is slated to start in early 2017) that will center on a different historic crisis each season. Brett Ratner stood on a gold curtain-lined stage built for a Rat Pack-inspired jazz band in the backyard of his Hilhaven Lodge estate just before 9 p.m. Aug. 10 and began with an admission. He had invited several hundred friends and colleagues — among them Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara, CBS Corp. chairman Leslie Moonves, Viacom's Shari Redstone,...

With her Christian Democratic party facing a strong challenge from the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany party in state elections on September 4, Chancellor Angela Merkel sought to tamp down fears that the refugees who have flooded the country have made Germany less safe. Merkel denies a link between increased terror attacks and the new arrivals.

“Indeed, it is impossible to think of any other group in the U.S. that is anywhere near as law-abiding" as concealed carry permit holders. So concluded the Crime Prevention Research Center following its new report, “Concealed Carry Permit Holders Across the United States 2016." The center studied the rate of criminal offenses among concealed carry holders in Florida and Texas when coming to its conclusion. The findings speak for themselves.
