  • Question for media watchers: Shep Smith is touted as a hard news reporter?? (Vanity)

    10/17/2014 10:31:34 AM PDT · by ru4liberty · 35 replies
In their descriptions of the various programs on the fair and balanced network, they try to sell Shep as a hard-news guy. I've even heard him allude to that characterization concerning himself. I don't generally watch his show because he comes across as an arrogant little fart, but the times I have watched have caused me to scratch my head at the claim that he's a true (neutral) news reporter. I found it extremely unprofessional when, during the Blagojevich era, he always used the phrase "Planet Blago" to introduce those segments. He seemed quite amused with himself as his expression...

A dog that went missing in New York more than two years ago turned up alive and well this week — in Florida. According to Giuseppe DiBella, his 6-month-old toy fox terrier, Nika, vanished from the backyard of his Newburgh, New York, home in May 2012. “It was one of the most horrible days of my life,” DiBella told New York's CBS 2. DiBella spent a year searching...
  • Vanity: Question about GooglePlus/YouTube

    08/20/2014 10:00:32 AM PDT · by ru4liberty · 8 replies
What does it mean when someone on YouTube adds you to their circle? I'm not familiar with this person. I don't participate in circles and am unclear how they work. Social media is creepy to me, so I don't participate in any of it. I hate GooglePlus, but I had to sign onto it in order to continue to participate on YouTube. Now I'm creeped out when some stranger puts me in their circle. Am I justified in my paranoia or is it harmless when someone does that? Does my YouTube name show up somewhere where I have no control...
  • Need help ID'ing a country song

    06/30/2014 4:44:51 PM PDT · by ru4liberty · 38 replies
My former co-worker just called me for help in naming a country music song. I don't listen to today's country music that much, so I couldn't help her, but I'm sure one of my FReeper FRiends can. She said the song had something in the lyrics about grandma having dementia or Alzheimer's and having to refer back to 1942(ish) for something she can remember. Or something like that. Does anyone know what song that might be and who the artist is? TIA. :)

Life Portrait of Ronald Reagan (C-Span video) It's been 10 years since President Reagan went home to be with the Lord. I remember watching every minute of the coverage after he passed. A blast from the past that puts this VA mess in perspective. It sheds light on why Shinseki's and Zero's underwhelming "outrage" rang so hollow. Not to be too conspiratorial, but one almost has to wonder if the worsening dysfunction of the VA was all part of a bigger scheme and many deaths that have so "enraged" Shinseki and Zero were simply collateral damage.
  • Gowdy exposes media's complicity in Benghazi cover-up

Brief press conference from last year when Trey Gowdy indicted the media for their failure in covering the Benghazi attack. Worth a watch. BTW, out of curiosity ... how many of us are motivated to post our complaints about the media here on FR or complain in conversations with others about the feckless media, yet never write letters* or emails or make phone calls to the media to call them out for abrogation of journalistic duty? Can we help stir up some sense of responsibility to inform the public if we constantly nudge them? *Personally, I think a letter is...

She has a .38 handgun but has been told by a few people (shooting range owner, RTC instructor's cousin, co-worker, etc.) that the best thing to have is a shotgun. 'Jarhead' confronts burglary suspect By Chris Paschenko The Daily News Published September 25, 2007 TEXAS CITY — An armed and nosy neighbor, an off-duty police officer and an even nosier dog led to the arrest late Sunday of two brothers accused of breaking into an occupied home. Leslie Nolan Jr., a former U.S. Marine, was inside his 39th Avenue North home about 11:30 p.m., when his wife, Janice, saw a stranger prowling around a neighbor’s house. Whenever Israel uses military force, there is always a cadre of self-hating Jews who feel it is their duty to undermine the Israeli government. They begin arguments by claiming moral superiority through their Judaism. In criticizing Israel's defensive action in Lebanon last week, Fox News co-host Alan Colmes stated, "I'm Jewish. I don't think appeasement means peace, though. Or peace means appeasement. Peace would be the desire." British MP Gerald Kaufman asked in the July 23 edition of the Daily Mail, "As a Jew, I am grieved to ask the question, but I must: Will Israel never learn?" Then there's...

UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 16 — Iraq's foreign minister, Hoshyar Zebari, accused the United Nations Security Council today of having failed to help rescue his country from Saddam Hussein, and he chided member states for bickering over his beleaguered country's future. "Settling scores with the United States-led coalition should not be at the cost of helping to bring stability to the Iraqi people," Mr. Zebari said in language unusually scolding for an occupant of the guest seat at the end of the curving Security Council table. "Squabbling over political differences takes a back seat to the daily struggle for security, jobs,...

WASHINGTON - The Senate approved a resolution Tuesday to repeal media ownership rules critics say could lead to a wave of mergers and ultimately stifle diversity and local viewpoints in news and entertainment. Defying a White House veto threat, the Senate voted 55-40 to undo changes to Federal Communications Commission regulations governing ownership of newspapers and television and radio stations. Those rules already have been placed on hold by a federal appeals court. "We have to ensure that the marketplace of ideas is not dominated by a few conglomerates at the expense of our citizens and our democracy," Sen. Patty...

Sept. 12, 2003 | AUSTIN, Texas -- A three-judge federal panel in West Texas on Friday dismissed a lawsuit filed by senate Democrats hoping to derail a new round of redistricting in Texas. The Democrats argued that Senate rule changes by Republicans to further the redistricting effort violated federal law. The judges, who listened to two hours of oral arguments Thursday in Laredo, dismissed those claims but withheld a decision on an amended complaint of threats to arrest Democrats and require them to pay fees for their failure to appear at a special legislative session on redistricting. BAGHDAD, Iraq -- It's a fair bet one Baghdad baby won't run into any one else in Iraq with the same name. Iraqi parents named their 6-week-old son George Bush, to show their appreciation for U.S. efforts to get Saddam Hussein out of power. If the couple had twin boys, the other baby would have been named Tony Blair, because the father says both the United States and Britain liberated Iraq. FM 517 in Galveston County runs east and west, but it's now the landmark that could split one congressional district into two. “Basically, that allows us to have a bigger voice at the table,” said Senate Republican Executive Committee’s Ken Clark. “History says that's not the case,” said Nick Lampson’s Chief of Staff Tom Combs. For all intents and purposes, anyone living south of FM 517 would be in Tom Delay's new congressional district, while every one north of 517 would be in the newly drawn Ninth Congressional District, currently held by Democrat Nick Lampson.
