Whether we realize it or not, we all have at least one narcissist in our lives. In fact, according to authors Jean Twenge, PhD and Keith Campbell, PhD, there is a narcissism epidemic in this country. (The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement, Free Press, 2009, Twenge PhD., Campbell, PhD.). After reading this eye opening book I found myself thinking about this subject in general and agree with the authors that narcissism is sweeping our country and wreaking havoc on the personal, social and professional relationships of the masses. Most of us, however, live in denial. We don't...

This is a slightly reworded comment that I posted to a different thread. The intent is not to rankle Trump supporters (Trump doesn't top my list), but to explain why Trump is where he is. My observation is that Trump is a sign that American Conservatives have given up on working within the system. For over 100 years the Democrat Party has had one populist after another, using fear and graft to roll-up voting blocks, unfettered by any adherence to the Constitution, the rule of law, or the concept of individual liberty. The last Republican populist president was Teddy Roosevelt,...

  • Journalists grapple with fear and doubts about firearms after Paris attack

Newsroom security is a big worry among journalists in the wake of the Islamic terrorist attack that killed 10 Charlie Hebdo journalists in Paris Tuesday, but it's not a new issue in this country. ....... But Siewert's organization contrasts mightily with what appears to be a more widespread attitude of uncertainty that anything can be done to secure newsrooms against Paris-like attacks or outright revulsion against journalists being linked with firearms for any reason. Most representative of the latter was this response from the BBC's Fiona Graham, who covers technology in business: "This is quite possibly the most bizarre and...

I tire of hearing how success is dependent upon the financial status of the parents, and the coupled assertion that whites have a shared privilege of historical financial success. I grew up in a very rural, all white area. My elementary class was comprised of 13 kids, 11 families farmed or ran cattle, one operated a small two pump gas station, and one worked as meat cutters. About three families were lower middle class, while the rest were all working poor. We didn’t consider ourselves to be poor, but that is how the government classified us. Not a single family...

  • Where Did the Benghazi Video Excuse Come From?

The question keeps being asked, "Where did the claim come from that the Youtube video was responsible for the attack in Benghazi?" The total lack of references to the video in the raw intelligence reports and even the CYA email chain indicates that it was a late construction in the story. But why would it be put out and why so prominently? I truly believe the answer is self-evident. Benghazi is a three part scandal: 1. Incompetent handling of security warnings and concerns prior to the attack. Warnings were ignored and no response plan was in place. 2. Criminal negligence...

I just confronted the manager at our local Winn-Dixie store here in Jacksonville, FL concerning a racist publication that was displayed prominently inside the front door, THE BLACK PAGES. Its a collection of exclusively black businesses and professionals. The intent is to provide a means to discriminate against other races when conducting commerce. I was polite, but extremely firm about how unwelcome such a racist publication made me feel in the store (yes, I'm white). I shamed the man, but explaining that he can't expect me to be his customer, while displaying such hostile publications. As the entire shift was...
  • Murder Rates vs. Firearm Murder Rates

We hear a lot in the media about “firearm murder rates”, but I don’t really care about how someone is murdered, but rather whether they are murdered at all. The U.S. ranks 1st in firearms per person, but 98th overall by murder rate, putting us on the better side of mid-pack. The Swiss rank 2nd in firearms per person and have an almost nonexistent murder rate. Of the 20 countries with the most firearms per person, none have exceedingly high murder rates compared to the rest of the world. Indeed, when averaged, the murder rate of these 20 countries would...

The following is a list, provided by the White House, of executive actions President Obama plans to take to address gun violence. - Followed by my observations on their relevance. 1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system. - Why aren’t they already doing this? And are you including illegal aliens, because something tells me you aren’t. 2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system. - Must be...

The media has been in a slumber for the last 4 years; not that the world has been quiet. We have lived in a world replete with economic collapse, international conflict, and social unrest, a time of tribulations and consequence, the likes of which we have not seen in over 70 years. But a media which gleans only what it desires to further a socialist agenda has found no purchase on these stories. They had achieved their goal of placing a true socialist in the Presidency, and no bad news, no bad outcomes would be spoken of during his realm....

A 57-year-old father and grandfather stopped off on his way home from work Monday night to fill a grocery list his wife left for him that morning. But after entering the Dollar General at 1921 Dunn Ave., he was thrust into an armed robbery that ended with him firing his weapon and one of the two robbers lying dead on the floor. Two men entered the store about 9:20 p.m., both with handguns, said Lt. Rob Schoonover of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. “One of them had the clerk and one of them was at the front cash register,” Schoonover said....

I just heard a radio announcement that was 90% pure Obama collectivism. Obama was narrating and it had the tone of his campaign. The subject was HS graduation rates. He was telling us we needed to work together and go to the website. It was funded by the US Army and the Ad Council. I'm betting this is just the beginning of a wave of publicly funded Obama campaign ads. Spend the campaign money on attack ads and spend public money on "feel good about him" ads.

My 13 yr old started reading the Hunger Games series and I picked up on the underlying theme of personal liberty, as she was telling me about it. I decided to read it this last Saturday, so that I could discuss it with her in depth. I just finished the third and final book of the Hunger Games series and I think everyone here needs to know about it. It is a strong and powerful presentation of the evils that follow placing group needs above individual liberty/dignity. It’s aimed at kids and is wildly popular with young teenagers. Freepers need...

My wife is a physician at the local ER/Trauma Center. Yesterday she told me a story that reminded me that everyone has the ability to be noble. We had a horrific accident here that involved a car plowing into a group of pedestrians, crushing them against parked cars. One of her hospital's "frequent flyer" substance abusers was killed in that accident. A long-time homeless alcoholic, that would show up regularly at the ER. According to several eye witness accounts, his last act was not to run or shove, but to grab a young child (no relation to himself) and toss...

From Michael Peltier of the News Service of Florida: Doctors and other medical providers would be barred from asking patients – or the parents of child patients – if they have guns in their home under a measure that promises a major showdown between powerful lobbying groups. The National Rifle Association’s top Florida lobbyist and a Florida Medical Association member both say the issue is among the top priorities for the session, with the groups holding diametrically opposed positions on what doctors and their patients and families should be allowed to discuss during a medical visit.
