You’re right. We really need to put some folks on the 4th Circuit and SOON! However, I disagree with the sentiment that we have enough conservatives on the 5th Circuit. The recent 8-7 decision in favor of school prayer shows that we could use some more. That’s just too close for comfort.

O’Reilly has some good points to make on occasion but the man is out of control.

Wonderful news and a victory for common sense! Leslie Southwick is being appointed (and now very likely confirmed) to the same court that ruled 8-7 in favor of allowing a Louisiana school board to have prayers. It’s clear we need more conservatives on this court that oversees deeply conservative states like Texas and Louisiana.

One last thing that you will all find of interest: this was approved in the Texas House of Representatives on a 124-12 vote and in the Texas Senate on a 29-0 vote. Not even competitive.

Just like all our federal currency shows ‘In God We Trust’ on it and the federal Pledge does the same, so it’s totally appropriate that Texans honor God in their daily state Pledge recital. Well, if that’s the case, then it’s a big strike against Thompson. However, Congressman Paul’s approach has just completely turned me off. I think he gets some sort of strange kick out of being the lone ranger on his issues. Those aren’t necessarily good qualities for a President.

That’s what bothers me. That’s why I cannot fathom supporting him for the presidency. I know his reasons behind opposing the FMA, but to me those are not 21st Century reasons that need to address the corrupted society we live in.

This is scary. Another one of the reasons why I won't vote for Ron Paul. He's supported by the wrong people and he supports the wrong causes. He opposed the Federal Marriage Amendment (which I'm sure the lesbians appreciate) and he's also aligned himself with some 70 ultra-liberal House Dems who said they will not vote in favor of any more money for the Iraq War unless complete withdrawal is assured.

Don't vote for Ron Paul in 2008 or ever.

Actually, it might not be quite as bad as you make it out to be. A Newsweek poll in 1992 found 35% supported gay marriage. In 1994, a Time Magazine poll found 31% in favor. I don’t know about 1975, but it’s not growing quite the way the MSM claims. Rasmussen last year found 68% against gay marriage.

Schumer is a fool. Most of the decisions by SCOTUS of late are very popular with the American people. Schumer is just a blowhard.

This was a tight 8-7 ruling in favor of relgious freedom. It's worthy to note that of the 3 judges that President Bush put on this court, all of them voted the right way. Meanwhile, of the 3 judges Bill Clinton put on this court, all voted the wrong way. Similarly, the lone remaining Carter appointee on this court also sided with the liberals. The court's Chief Judge Edith Jones, a Reagan appointee, authored the opinion.

The GOP needs to keep the pressure up on him to return to Republican principles in more areas. Opposing gay marriage isn’t enough. He needs to do more.

I can’t fully agree with you there. Superficially, it would appear true, but the Dems are now unpopular even to the Dems in Congress. They’re a marvel of inefficiency and ineffectiveness. The higher their disapproval ratings climb to, the less likely the GOP will be to lose more seats. In fact, I remember reading a pundit suggesting that the GOP might make a comeback in 2008, thanks to Democratic fumbling of immigration, etc. There’s no telling what sort of Democratic idiocy will take place between now and 2008, too. Try to have a little bit of faith, my friend!

I agree with you - to a point and not without qualification. By that, I mean that a number of things are to be taken note of here. For one, the GOP candidates are performing very strongly against Hillary, currently the likely Dem nominee. Secondly, one of the worst things the Dems could have had happen to them happened in 2006: they won a majority in both the House and Senate. They are currently seeing their ratings tank with a very worrying trend-line for them, too. Pelosi and Reid are in negative territory, too, and it’s hard for me to see how they can make things better.

They’ve proven themselves totally incapable of running things in the face of President Bush’s strong leadership and veto power. If this trend continues, it will be clearer to the voters that the Dems aren’t much of an alternative to the GOP. What’s more the Dem election advantage in Congress isn’t huge as shown in this poll. They began with high expectations from the voters but are now disappointing.

Finally, the issue of immigration remains a distinct wildcard. The leading Dems voted for amnesty, while most Republicans didn’t, and this is an issue with legs.

Actually only 35% didn’t like him as a person, suggesting that they’re more closely allianced with the Kosmunists.
