RIFLE, Colo. — Many stores and restaurants are telling people not to bring their guns inside, but one western Colorado restaurant not only embraces the practice of packing heat, it encourages its customers to carry openly — and its waitresses do, too. As she takes your order at Shooters Grill in the town of Rifle — yes, Rifle — waitress Ashlee Saenz carries a pad, pen and a loaded Ruger .357 Blackhawk revolver holstered on her leg, Old West style. It's loaded, and she knows how to use it

This Bulldog, Hammie, took an unbelievably adorable liking to his newfound four-legged-feline family. Hammie’s owner, Michelle Parden, of Lincoln, Neb., temporarily adopted the kittens’ mother, an almost full-term stray named Mommy, as an urgent favor to her friend, the director of Voice for Companion Animals, a nonprofit that helps low-income families provide for their pets. “She was in rough shape so we took her in, and a week later she had the kittens on Halloween,” Parden told GoodMorningAmerica.com. “So we named them all Halloween-themed names.” From the moment the kittens, festively named Pumpkin, Goblin, Frankenstein, Batman, Zombie and Elvia, were...

A dog that went missing in midtown Manhattan in December was reunited with his owners on Tuesday thanks to fliers, Facebook and the kindness of plenty of strangers. Tigger, a year-old lab and pit-bull mix, was being walked by the daughter of a friend of the couple who owns him, Manny Benor and Valerie Aranov, when he broke free as they were leaving the dog run in Madison Square Park. (Benor believes she accidentally attached the leash to a key ring on Tigger's collar.) The 13-year-old chased after the pup for several blocks, but Tigger vanished — and the search...

A rare whale that has a dolphin-shaped head and saber-like teeth has been found dead on Los Angeles' Venice Beach, even though it prefers frigid subarctic waters. The roughly 15-foot-long female Stejneger's beaked whale washed ashore Tuesday night, the Los Angeles Times reported. A truck hauled away the mammal, which was being examined at the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum to determine how it died. The Stejneger's beaked whale is rarely seen in the wild. The species typically dives deep in subarctic waters to feed on squid and small fish. It is believed to migrate as far south as...

The British holiday Guy Fawkes Day was popularized in the 2005 film "V for Vendetta", where a mask-wearing outcast overthrows a future totalitarian society. With just one day left before the polls open, Democrats have settled on a closing message to the 2012 campaign that portrays the Obama presidency as a brief moment of enlightenment in America’s bleak past and future. America used to be a place of economic, racial, and sexual oppression--and it would be again, Democrats argue, if the country turned to Romney instead of rewarding Obama with a second term in office. That is what Obama means when he invokes the repeated refrain--“We’ve come too far to turn back now.”

Among the public health agency's prescribed practices to stop the spread of the virus: "Practice proper hand hygiene … Take care in the kitchen … Do not prepare food while infected … Clean and disinfect contaminated surfaces after throwing up or having diarrhea … Wash laundry thoroughly." The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Counter-Terrorism and Human Rights has warned Americans not to elect Republican Mitt Romney in next month’s presidential election, saying that doing so would be “a democratic mandate for torture.” The UN’s Ben Emmerson was referring to Romney’s refusal to rule out the use of waterboarding in interrogating terror detainees, a practice that President Barack Obama has ended. Colin Perkel of The Canadian Press reported Emmerson’s remarks from a symposium in Toronto on the impact of 9/11 on human rights: "The re-introduction of torture under a Romney administration would significantly increase the threat levels to...

It may be possible to use a drug to prevent some of the lasting and crippling damage caused by a stroke, according to doctors in the US and Canada. A safety trial, published in the Lancet Neurology medical journal, suggested the chemical NA-1 was safe to use. The study on 185 people also hinted that patients given the drug developed fewer regions of damaged brain tissue. The Stroke Association said that it was promising, but needed more research. Tests in primates had suggested NA-1 prevented brain cells dying when a stroke starved them of oxygen.

Saul Alinsky was a brilliant man. Evil, but brilliant. Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, everyone on the Left from the President on down is playing by his rules in the political arena. Not all liberals have read his book or know his name, but his tactics have become universal. Sadly for conservatives, when two evenly matched forces go head-to-head outside of a fairy tale, the side that tries to play nice usually ends up with its head in a box. So, don't lie or become an evil person like Alinsky, but learn from what he wrote and give...
