Help! If I'm not logged on, everything looks fine, but when I'm logged on, then it seems to be showing the thread title and the last reply to it. (Instead of the latest threads and a preview of them.) Where do I change things to make it show threads with previews of the article?

I just noticed this about 2 weeks ago. It took all night to update, then worked fine. Today's install seems to be updating even slower. Thinking it may be an issue with my ISP, I got a friend (many miles away) to do an install with his XP, and he's experiencing the same issue. My install cd came with SP2. I slipstreamed SP3 onto it many years ago, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I can manually install a downloaded media player 11 which makes me validate and that passes, so that's not the problem.

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada. The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to...

My mother's brother recently passed away. I know he saw a lot of combat in Europe and liberated several camps. Unfortunately, that's about all I know, as Uncle Stanley never talked about the war, and we weren't allowed to ask him about it.Whenever I see a movie about the war in Europe, I always wonder if that was his unit, if he was in that battle, etc... Is there any way to find any of this out?

Lets's start a thread for posting our Derby picks. We need an FR bookie. We can play for told-ya-sos. I'm a cheapskate who's broke all the time, so I'm only betting on the big race. I'm putting $2 across the boards on "Normandy Invasion" and also $2 across the boards on "Frac Daddy". I know it's stupid to pick them because you like their names, but every once in a while it works. I picked a horse named "Frisk Me Now" once in some podunk race and it won even though it went off at like 50 or 60:1. The...
  • An essay that when read backwards, has the opposite meaning

We all know that a palindrome is a word or sentence that reads the same backwards as forward. But what should we call an essay that when read backwards, has the opposite meaning? This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward. Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite.
  • Microsoft to stop Linux, older Windows, from running on Windows 8 PCs

    ZDNet ^ | September 23, 2011 | Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols
Thanks to Mary Jo Foley, we now know that in the name of "security," Microsoft will be trying to use UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) to block Linux, older versions of Windows, and other alternative operating systems from booting on Windows 8 PCs. Thanks Microsoft we appreciate it. In a new Microsoft blog, Building Windows 8, by Steven Sinofsky, Microsoft's president of the Windows division, Linux isn't mentioned, and he tries to place the blame on the UEFI security protocol. Behind all his dodging, the facts are that Microsoft UEFI secure boot is requirement for Windows 8 certification and that,...

Here's a show where the big boys who do displays for cities come to compete, try out new shells, and get tuned up for the 4th of July. Last year's show was the best fireworks display I've ever seen. They shot off 55000+ shells, and then a BUNCH more big 10 & 12" mortars! It went for an hour and 45 minutes! (They only stopped to let the smoke clear.) Here are a few short youtubes from last year: This cameraman is a motor-mouth, but check out the length and depth of the firing line! The Supreme Court's landmark 2008 ruling, DC v. Heller, either confirmed or created the individual right to bear arms from the text of the Second Amendment, of which two versions were ratified by various states: 1.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. 2.A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Manny Marco, unemployed vagabond, tenderly loaded the last of 30 9-millimeter bullets into the spring-action, extended clip for his new Mac-10--a semiautomatic assault weapon capable of throwing rounds as fast as Marco can blink. "That's very good, Manny," coaxed Arm the Homeless firearms instructor Pete Whippit. "Now, insert the clip and rack that lever there." Marco did so, producing the wicked, unmistakable chik-chik of a freshly loaded weapon. "Okay, Manny," Whippit continued, pointing to a switch. "Now, all you need to do is flick this thing here from 'Safe' to 'Fire,' and you are cocked, locked and ready to rock."...

A Columbus company was one of nine Web hosting firms around the country raided by U.S. Marshals this week as part of a Microsoft lawsuit aimed at eliminating sources of malware and email scams. Law enforcement agents, accompanied by members of Microsoft's year-old digital crimes unit, on Wednesday seized computer equipment that they said was used to command about a million infected personal computers. Ecommerce Inc. of the Far West Side, named in Microsoft's suit that was unsealed late Thursday, was among the companies raided. Other cities involved included Chicago, Kansas City and Dallas. In a post on Microsoft's law...

May 23: Venus Williams was back on the courts for the French Open in Paris this weekend, playing against Switzerland's Patty Schnyder. But let's face it, not a single person was focusing on their game, because Venus was, to put it lightly, letting it all hang out. Sure, she had on shorts under her, uh, tennis teddy, but they were the same color of her flesh, no doubt making everyone think to themselves, "Um, did I just see Venus' butt cheeks?"

FREMONT — World War II hero Art “Jibby” Jibilian, who volunteered with two others to parachute into Nazi-occupied Serbia and orchestrate the air rescue of 513 downed U.S. pilots, died Sunday evening in his home. The 86-year-old had battled leukemia for two years. His daughter, Debi Jibilian, said yesterday her father was persistent in his goals, including fighting his cancer. He had a dose of chemotherapy just a week ago to try to beat back the disease, she said. “God love him. He continued to give speeches, he would get blood transfusions, and he would keep traveling,” she said. “What...
