NASHVILLE — Reggie Young, a prolific studio guitarist who appeared on landmark recordings by Elvis Presley and many others and played a prominent role in shaping the sound of Southern popular music in the 1960s and ’70s, died on Thursday at his home in Leipers Fork, Tenn., just outside Nashville. He was 82. His wife, Jenny Young, said the cause was heart failure. Young played guitar on hundreds of hit recordings in a career that spanned more than six decades. Among his best-known credits are the Box Tops’ “The Letter” and Presley’s “Suspicious Minds,” both #1 singles in the late...

Friends - I wanted to let you know that Dad died very peacefully last night about 9:30. He was here at home surrounded by people who love him. My dear friend Julie Adams and I were flanking him in bed, my husband Robert was nearby and Gertie was curled up next to the bed. Dad was listening to Baby the Rain Must Fall when his breaths spaced out and he drifted up and out during the last chorus - catching a ride on the Perseids to his next Great Adventure. It was a very good death. More stories to tell...

Not sure how this will turn out. This was something I saw earlier today that I thought was important. When I went back through threads, I couldn't find it. When I searched online and found this image, it said Free Republic had removed it. What I need to know is - was it removed because it was proven false, or because it was a Getty image or some other copyright issue? Very important to know. Thank you.

Groundbreaking guitarist and vocalist Lonnie Mack, known as one of rock’s first true guitar heroes, died on April 21, 2016 of natural causes at Centennial Medical Center near his home in Smithville, Tennessee. His early instrumental recordings – among them Wham! and Memphis -- influenced many of rock's greatest players, including Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and especially Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was 74. Rolling Stone called him “a pioneer in rock guitar soloing.” Guitar World said, “Mack attacked the strings with fast, aggressive single-string phrasing and a seamless rhythm style that significantly raised the guitar virtuoso...

Ray Price has revealed he's battling pancreatic cancer, but the 86-year-old country legend refuses to let the disease stop him from entertaining his adoring fans. "The doctor said that every man will have cancer if he lives to be old enough," the singer tells the San Antonio Express-News. "I don't know why I got it -- I ain't old." This is Price's second cancer scare. In 2009, he underwent surgery to remove polyps from his colon. The music icon's latest diagnosis came after gallbladder surgery revealed a tumor. He endured six months of chemotherapy and is happy to report the...

I've never done a vanity before, and I looked at a bunch of threads hoping to avoid doing one. But nothing I found matched up with what I wnat to post about. About half an hour ago, someone came up on my porch to my front door. (I am now in VERY small town Ohio, and people don't just come walking up on your porch like that.) I went to the door to see who it was and what he wanted. He was wearing a red T-shirt and carrying a clipboard. He mentioned the name of an organization that went...

WOW! Just came across this on the Twitter page of Ron Smith from oldiesmusic.com. Ray is always interesting - most of the time funny, sometimes serious, always worth listening to. But I never knew him to get political like this, and what a joy that he is on our side! This will never get airplay, of course, but we need to spread it around as much as we can.

A former Gainesville radio personality, Elvis Presley backup singer and emcee at Lanierland Music Park in Cumming has died. Hugh Jarrett was the bass singer for Elvis Presley’s back up quartet, the Jordanaires from 1954 to 1958. Hugh’s voice can be heard on over 50 of Elvis’ recordings including the $10 million seller Don’t Be Cruel. During part of his career, when rock 'n' roll was in its heyday, Jarrett was a radio disc jockey, known as "Big Hugh Baby." That was when he was heard virtually coast-to-coast on WLAC in Nashville, Tennessee, and when he worked for WPLO in...

    Press Release to twangtownusa.com ^ | November 5, 2005 | IBMA Board of Directors
STATEMENT BY THE IBMA BOARD OF DIRECTORS In recent weeks, the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has been embroiled in a controversy concerning its annual Awards Show and the resignation of Board of Directors Chairperson/President David Crow after the US Navy's bluegrass band, Country Current, performed on the Show a medley of US military service branch anthems the group had previously agreed to omit at the request of the Board's Executive Committee. Following these events, the Committee conducted interviews with relevant parties in order to better understand how and why these events occurred, and to consider the issues raised by...
