    HOBOKEN—A North Bergen man kneed several detectives in their groins on Wednesday to avoid being arrested for selling drugs, according to police reports. Javier Gomez, 37, kneed Hoboken detectives' groins and tried to throw them into a four-foot gate in an attempt to escape arrest, police said. Detectives determined that Gomez was likely selling drugs after they saw him riding his bicycle to meet various people, according to police reports.

    JERSEY CITY -- A 47-year-old Jersey City man with 86 prior arrests made his first court appearance today on a Hoboken shoplifting charge. Jerry Williams, of the 200 block of Arlington Avenue, appeared in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City this afternoon via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny. Williams is charged with stealing toiletries and hair grooming products with a value of more than $400 from the CVS store on Clinton Street Friday, the criminal complaint says. Court officials said Williams has 86 prior arrests, 50 disorderly persons convictions and 10 criminal convictions.

    A Jersey City man accidentally set himself on fire on Thursday when he was trying to burn ants, police said. The 46-year-old victim was igniting gas in an alleyway on Bayview Avenue near Martin Luther King Drive at around 5 p.m. when the gas caused a flashback, police said. The man suffered second degree burns to his lower arms, according to authorities.
