My daughter is a sophomore in HS. A couple of nights ago I went to the school for a parent/coach meeting. Since I got there a few minutes early, I stepped into the gym to watch a few minutes of practice. The coach told me to leave because it's a "closed practice". I said, "you mean I can't watch?" He said, "No." I left but I didn't like it. As soon as the meeting started I told him what I thought. I explained that it's my kid. My school since I pay taxes. I'm not going to coach from the...

Radio interview of Jack Radcliffe on WCOL ^ | 28 Oct 2004 | Keith Sparks
I found only one other thread from July which even referenced Kerry's old band. Jack Radcliffe, former piano player for the 60's band "The Electras", was interviewed this morning by WCOL's Woody, a popular DJ at a country music station in Columbus, OH. The interview was very intertaining. A few interesting points were brought up during the interview. 1. When Jack was asked if he'd be voting for Kerry, the answer was, "I'm kind of on the fence. I haven't made up my mind yet." 2. When Jack was asked about Kerry's bass playing ability, "Kerry wasn't a bass player,...

A friend and I were on our way to lunch today. A young guy pulled up beside us and yelled at us, "Faranheit 911, man!" I don't know why he would do that. Maybe it was my NRA, Bush, Buckmasters, and NASCAR bumper stickers, my Persian Gulf Veteran license plate and fish emblem on my gas guzzling truck. Who knows? My only response was to tell him that he was ugly and that he was an idiot. Well, he was ugly. He had the typical grunge look of black hair, black shirt, etc. My friend was a little more verbose...

The death of Ronald Reagan and the popularity of Bill Clinton's book have sparked an unusually intense interest in presidents past. During the week of his funeral, several commentators declared Reagan the best president of the 20th century, even better than Franklin D. Roosevelt, whom Reagan himself admired. A recent Gallup Organization poll indicates that Americans rank John F. Kennedy slightly ahead of FDR, and both of them ahead of Reagan. Clinton supporters, meanwhile, note that he turned large federal deficits into surpluses and presided over a booming economy. It's the kind of argument that will never be settled, like...

I'm at work, 50 miles from the home 20. The wife called and said, "Julie [my SIL] just called and there is a ground hog in the tree in her back yard. It may be sick or something." I said well what do you want me to do about it? I ain't driving 100 miles round trip just to dispatch a ground hog that thinks it's a coon. She said, "Well I think I can do it, but I need you to tell me how to open the safe. I need you to tell me which gun to use. I...

My brother-in-law has loaned me his Remington 788 in .22-250 for about the last year or so. It carries a variable power Tasco scope (4-16 I think). He has offered to sell me the gun for $400. The gun is a good shooter. I can't give you an MOA number but it's probably close to a 1. On the one day I shot it from the bench, the wind was terrible and the bench was wobbly as heck. The wood has the appearance use, but there are dings, cracks, etc. The barrel has some bluing worn off. The action is...

Glenn’s outline on how to explain the upcoming Iraqi war to all the pinheads! 1. We should send more inspectors! - Analogize it to your kid caught smoking weed, who denies everything and is defensive and accusatory. At what point do you actually punish the child for smoking weed? Do you just keep hiring babysitters ad nauseam to watch over him? At some point you have to lay down the law and Mean What You Say. 2. There is always time for war: this should be a time for peace and we need more time. - 12 years is...

Sorry about this ridiculous vanity. Last week there was a pic in the NY Times of two 82nd soldiers with a POW in Afghanistan. I haven't seen the pic, but a co-worker mentioned it and asked me about it. Evidently these two soldiers were wearing what the the co-worker described as knee & elbow pads. I was stationed at Ft. Bragg for 8 years and never saw anything like it. Do any of you have a link to the picture? Do any of you know what these pads are and why they are worn?

I want to take this opportunity to offer this bit of free advice. Husbands, if you're listening, don't ever shoot your wife in the butt with a BB gun. Even if the projectile used is a candy sprinkle and not a real BB, it still produces an undesired effect. Though, to be honest with you, I'm not sure what sort of desired effect can be gained from shooting a spouse in the butt with a BB gun.

Lawn-parking ban Whitehall residents say it's their grass Friday, March 1, 2002 Kirk D. Richards Dispatch Staff Reporter As Whitehall is preparing to crack down on people who park cars on their lawns, residents are rebelling. On Tuesday, Norma Stuller, tired of being pestered by code-enforcement officers, decided to cover part of her front yard with gravel. Her mother's car was parked on the gravel patch on Wednesday. "I basically did that just to get the city off my back,'' said Stuller, who lives on Westphal Avenue. She's already received warnings from code-enforcement officers, who hope that the Whitehall City ...
