Haven't posted here in a long while. I got a call from Dad yesterday that Mom has a mild case of pneumonia. Mild though, is a relative term. Mom is 74 years old, and had 2/3rds of her right lung removed about 12 years ago due to lung cancer. I spoke with Dad earlier today, and he advised that she had a rough night, but seems to be slightly improved. If you would, please keep my Mom in your prayers. We would all appreciate it.
  • Need some good, local places in Las Vegas

Greetings! An acquaintance of mine is going to be going to Las Vegas with a group of friends for the first time. I was stationed there from 84-94, and have been back once or twice since then. I told her that the best places in Las Vegas are the places that aren't on the strip. Not the big houses, but the mom and pop places out there. Now, I need recommendations from the folks on scene. Food, shows, places to go, things to see and do - off the beaten track and away from all the big touristy stuff.

Wow. Had a doctor's appointment last week for a completely different issue. First thing the doc says is, "the weight loss is great!" That's when I explained that the 30-35 pounds I had lost had all been in the last month or so. That I was constantly thirsty, and "peeing like a race horse." That's when the original reason for the appointment got pushed to the back and that's when life changed. That's when we tested my blood sugar and found it at 297, and shortly after that was when I did my first injection of insulin. Yes, the symptoms...

Good morning! My family (myself, my wife, and our 16 year old and 14 month old) have been presented with the opportunity to adopt a Boxer. His owner is being relocated and cannot take him with her. He's three years old, gets along with small animals, which is good seeing as we have two cats, and a Sheltie. I've read about them quite a bit, and have been around a couple of them. My wife has owned one in the past. I'm impressed with them, but I'd like to get some owner's opinions and suggestions. From what I can gather...

In a previous thread, I told you about Lucas, the six year old son of my wife's co-worker Mark. Lucas had a good MRI, and they have scheduled surgery for him on Monday. It's an excellent hospital, and an excellent surgeon. Please pray for Lucas, his mom and dad - Laura and Mark, and his sister Grace. Please also, keep the surgeon and his team in your prayers as well.

Ok - let me go through the basic checklist. Logged in to FR? Check Logged into my computer? Check Logged into the server? Check Tin foil hat? On and locked Large grain of salt available? Check (although I'm cutting down on salt) I have a small network here at the house. Cable modem into a router, router split into three workstations. I inherited an additional box from a friend, and it's been sitting around for a while, so I figured - heck - let's turn it into a local file/printer/web server. A little over 13 months ago, I was posting on here about the birth of our daughter, Kayleigh. I haven't done a real good job of keeping things updated, but today was a major milestone. We've been walking by holding hands, and standing alone for 20-30 seconds before crashing down. Today, though, we're walking on our own.

My wife's coworker recently posted a message about an MRI his six year old son recently underwent. Lucas has been having headaches for a while, and the doctor ordered an MRI to see what was going on. Rather than try to paraphrase what he said, I'm just going to quote it. "Thank you for all the prayers. Yesterday was a very long day for us. The MRI went fine and Lucas was a champ. He's a heck of good kid. Before I get to the results, for those of you who know Laura, please don't call her for a while....

HARRIMAN — A retention pond wall collapsed early this morning at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Kingston steam plant, releasing a mixture of water and fly ash that flooded nearly a dozen homes and caused a train wreck. No injuries have been reported, but one house was swept into the middle of Swan Pond Circle Road and huge piles of wet fly ash cover the roadway. Officials say 4 to 6 feet of material washed out of the pond and now covers up to 400 acres of land adjacent to the plant. ...excerpt...

Girl inspired soldiers in Kosovo while she fought brain tumor ALCOA - After battling a brain tumor and starting a support group for Army National Guard soldiers overseas, 8-year-old Hannah Lawson was able to meet soldiers whom she's inspired through her strength, resilience and bravery at the air base in Alcoa on Saturday. Hannah was surrounded by her family and friends as they awaited the arrival of Black Hawk pilot David Creech and the Southern Comfort medical helicopter unit that recently returned home to East Tennessee from their station in Kosovo. A crowd of about 100 people gathered in support...

LAKE CITY - Spc. Jason Dean Hovater was much more than a soldier stationed in an outpost in Afghanistan near the Pakistan border. "He was a brother and a son and a husband,'' said Hovater's sister, Jessica Davis of Norris. "Most of all, he was a man of God. He was a light to other people around him." Hovater, a Clinton resident, was one of nine soldiers killed last weekend in the deadliest assault in Afghanistan against the U.S. military in three years. Some 200 militants with machine guns, rocket-propelled grenades and mortars attacked the outpost but were beaten back...

The world is a far, far darker place for the loss of a little black cat Pitch was a rescue cat. We went to a black cat rescue group 11 years ago to see about picking a cat, and we got picked instead. I sat down on the floor, and this little kitten with the crank in his tail came right up to me and climbed into my lap, and that was it. Originally, Pitch was supposed to be “my” cat, as much as a cat can belong to anyone. However, when we got him home, he instantly adopted my...

OLIVER SPRINGS, TN -- Firefighters at the site of an oil well fire in Oliver Springs expect the fire to burn for a few more days before it is extinguished. They plan to use heavy equipment and water to extinguish the blaze. Three firefighters from Wild Well Control will are figuring out how to get the oil to stop flowing so the fire can be extinguished. "While it's burning, it's really safer for us, working around it, versus if the well was just blowing around a bunch of oil and gas," Wild Well Control, Inc. Executive VP Freddy Gebhardt said....

I own a home built in 1944 as part of the Manhattan Project (some people have uniforms or vehicles or other militaria - I have a house). The government equipped this particular type of home (known as a Model 19, or locally as a Flat Top) with a hydronic heating system. A gas fired (used to be coal, I...

Well, this is it. Suddenly, amazingly, by the Grace of God - Kayleigh LouAnn is to be born tomorrow. I've learned that if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans. When my wife and I first discussed marriage, we had decided no more children. I have a fourteen year old daughter by a previous marriage, and she felt that if she had been meant to have a child, she would have done so by this time. God chuckled. My wife, whom God blessed me with, was worried I'd be upset. Be upset? Hardly. I've had to explain...

Ok - first things first. I am logged in. My beeber is set on stune. This is a series thread. I took a shower this morning before work. Does anyone out there build dollhouses? I found a good deal on a Greenleaf Willowcrest that had been opened, but only barely touched. It's something I've always wanted to do, but never had the money to purchase - but for the price, I can't resist. I have a fourteen year old daughter, and one that is about 10 days away from being born, and I thought this might be an interesting project...

“Momma, they got me a heart.” Those are the words Jessica Hensley heard Monday when her phone rang at 1 a.m. in her Kingston home. Jessica’s 12-year-old daughter, Jordon Hensley, called from Vanderbilt University Medical Center with the news that her cardiologist needed her to get ready for a heart transplant. “Jordon called me before the doctor did,” Jessica said Tuesday in a phone call to The Oak Ridger. “She told me, ‘The doctor’s about to call you. I am so excited.’” Jessica said, “We are so thankful to the Paine family. I have not got an official word (about...
