So the GOP now has the power of the purse. I did some searching but cannot really find out what this enables them to do, outside of passing bills. Do they really get to say what money actually gets spent? Like a literal checkbook? Just curious…

I remember watching this Live on television in 1983. I find it especially upsetting the way Obama and Hillary keep saying things about Donald Trump and his finger on the button, when they are engaged in sabre-rattling with Russia. Maybe they need to take a look at this movie again. I was in Hiroshima a month ago and went to the Peace Park and Museum. What I saw there will never leave my mind. I fear seriously for our future if Hillary gets elected.

So, I keep hearing this "No Republican has ever won without the state of Ohio..." and it is time for some historical perspective on this. Today, the Electoral Votes in Ohio are 18... the lowest since 1826. The most recent high water mark was 26 in 1968. A mere twelve years ago it was 21. Ohio is experiencing a net population drain (I and my family moved from near Cleveland to San Antonio, Texas in 2005). Ohio has always been tough to poll and predict. Why? The Blue is concentrated in NE Ohio (Lake County being the exception), Toledo, and...

I have to admit, I’m of two minds about this midterm election. There’s Bruce Banner and there is the Incredible Hulk. Bruce Banner. Cautious and conservative, Bruce Banner is a firm believer that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. As such, he derives an estimate in this fashion. Taking the RealClearPolitics average of the generic ballot polls, and dropping the highest

So, assuming the Senate Bill gets passed under the following scenarios - what is the likelihood of intervention? Yeas/Nays - bill passes. I would suppose the first challenge would be the Constitutionality of requiring Citizens to purchase a service violates the Commerce Clause (see Seminole Tribe v. Florida) as the Federal Government cannot supercede sovereignty of the States. Further, there can be challenges filed by various State Attorneys General on the basis of the Tenth Amendment. Given this, I would presume that a Federal Judge (preferably a Strict-Constructionalist) can stay the Law. This would then get appealed and certainly make...

I have read all the books from Brad Thor and Vince Flynn and am looking for someone's work along those lines to read on an upcoming trip. Any suggestions out there? I really enjoyed both Flynn and Thor. I have read Jon Land and was reading Lee Child until his last novel revealed his leftist leanings. Thanks for your replies!

Now that gas is about to dip below $2 here in San Antonio, it is time to buy a bigger vehicle for camping (towing) and long-distance travelling (Texas to Ohio). I am considering an Expedition (have the Ford A Plan) and Toyota Sequoia. Any owners out there that want to state their case? Any others I should look at? Thanks in advance!!!

Anyone just see Kerry on BOR? What a make-up job? He looks like he dipped his face in molten plastic. And BOR really got him teed off.

I voted early in Texas as did my wife.... we both voted for Henry Bonilla who is up against two RATS for District 23 in Texas. Henry has to get 50% or face a runoff for his House seat. You many recall his was the district that the USSC tossed and added back in several RAT areas including the drug-infested areas of Laredo and the "barrio" of Southern Bexar County. They also trimmed a bit of the reliably Republican areas from him. So, what is the feeling out there Texans? Are we going to keep this seat? I don't often...

I am relocating to San Antonio in a few weeks from Cleveland. I will be working in Leon Valley. We plan to sell our home in Cleveland and move the whole family down in June. Any thoughts on the city and area from residents or past residents? Areas to avoid? Please post your relevant experiences.

Thomas Gibson, Nancy McKeon, Brian Dennehy, Dianne Wiest and Randy Quaid star in this four-hour mini-series event. The natural disaster drama is about three enormous weather systems that ultimately collide over Chicago, creating the worst super-storm in the nation's history--but only after they first cause the national power grid to collapse, making it impossible to warn anyone about the impending disaster. A few days shy of retiring from his job as chief meteorologist for the National Weather Service's storm prediction center, Andy Goodman (Dennehy) begins to follow three separate and potentially devastating weather systems--a cluster of tornadoes in the west,...

When is Bush speaking at the Silverdome? Who is speaking with him? Will it be covered LIVE on C-SPAN? This appears to be the largest rally so far.

A friend stopped by yesterday and showed me the Knoppix CD and introduced me to Linux. Now I am very computer savvy when it comes to Windows XP and hardware, but not so much with Linux. Truth is, I loved what I saw! So, now I am thinking of switching or at least going dual boot. My dilemmas are that I usea lot of mapping software (Microsoft Streets and Trips, Garmin Mapsource, Delorme Street Atlas and Topo USA), and I do not know how these would run under Linux. For the Linux users out there, what would be the best...

The investigation will look at what the United States believed it knew before the war against Saddam Hussein's regime and what has been determined since the invasion. Former chief weapons inspector David Kay has concluded that Iraq did not possess weapons of mass destruction, a chief rationale for the U.S.-led war.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Under pressure from the White House to act quickly, House and Senate Republicans said Tuesday they want to send a roughly $400 billion tax-cut and spending bill to President Bush's desk this week, but important differences between the two congressional chambers have not been settled.

What do we know about any outstanding house races and governor races? Have not heard anything more about AZ gov, and looks like AL gov going to recount. Louisiana will get resolved in one month, and SD is hard to say. I think Thune definitely needs to fight on and at least try to uncover what happened in those last 5 precincts to report. A one vote pickup in each precinct would put him over the top by about 300 votes, so it is certainly worth it. The SOS for SD said that recounts typically favor the guy ahead, but...
