If I have to pay extra to accommodate my height, people should pay more to accommodate their extra width. I pay a premium on flights because coach simply doesn’t have enough room.

Problem with my generation is they were/are indoctrinated to think that certain jobs are beneath them by the older generation. Also doesn’t help that most employers want someone who is ready made for a position with no training. Job searching is a catch 22 in a lot of cases. You have to have x years experience in x industry to get an entry level job.

You should be able to have the DNS point to an internal IP address. So if it’s at mysite.com pointing to an IP 10.0.0.1, it should only be reachable inside of your network but not outside of it.

This is all on the assumption that you have an internally based web server.

I do the same thing. No sodas, strict limit on juices and I check labels like crazy. I cut out the sodas 10 years ago..2 years I started avoiding the HFCS as much as humanly possible.

Only downside to the cloud environment is that you’re at the mercy of your host node. Then again, I do favor dedicated hardware so I’m a bit bias in that regard.

Not saying avoid. Just pointing out how web services work on a server. It's a tricky thing to get it to work flawlessly 100% of the time, especially in times of high traffic. It's frustrating sure but it's completely understandable considering the work that's involved and the programming that's involved.

Even if this site was load balanced across 10 servers, it's very well possible that there was enough traffic tonight to bog them down. After all, FR is the best place to be for a live thread. A lot of work goes into keeping a server online, esp during high traffic events.

Servers are tricky especially the web service. When a server receives a lot of web requests (port 80), there’s only so many that can happen at a time. Each time you click on the site, fresh, that sends another request. Since there’s not a multimillion dollar backing (i.e. twitter, facebook etc al.) with servers, load balancing and the such, the server can become quickly bogged down. And who’s to say a lot of trolls weren’t hitting the servers at the same time?

The problem is group think. This is liberalism in general. If you stray outside of the group think, you're attacked viciously. The problem is, people don't want to listen to reason. And then you have those that are putting on a front so they don't have to deal with someone verbally (or even physically attacking them).

I've had to deal with this in my own family. I almost got assaulted (by family) because I said Obama is bringing out the worst in everyone.

Of course. That's how they make their money. But the pay they dish out to their contract workers are still a lot more than what they would make at a single employer. For example: My employer, sadly, pays some of their new sysadmins barely 30k a year. However, a lot of people just want stability. Nothing wrong with that in uncertain financial times.

Of course, an amount is agreed upon at hire but the sentiment is, why hold out for more when I can take a job when no other offers are available. Some of us choose to not be a burden on society. At least I know that was my thinking when I got hired. My main thing is, with contract work, I'd be out of work every 3 months, 6 months or a year. As someone that likes to pay their bills, I take comfort in knowing that pending a major screw up on my part, I'll still have my job.
