My best friend’s baby became gravely ill when less than a year old, and needed open heart surgery before he was 18 months. She never gave up, gave her entire heart and held him close except when in the surgical suite. He is now a healthy almost three year old who shows no signs of having been close to death. She was terrified for him but all he knew was her touch and her love.

  • What killed the liberal radio star?

    12/26/2013 9:21:01 AM PST · 46 of 90
    VideoPaul to raccoonradio

Liberal talk radio fails for exactly one reason: It fails, almost universally, to put entertainment FIRST.

A notable exception is Alan Colmes, who is first and foremost a career broadcaster who has worked commercial music radio and understands that you gotta be entertaining before you can be an idealogue. His shows have been successful and have pulled numbers. The rest of them are typically either political hacks, stand up comedians or D-list actors whop can’t cut it in real radio. They try and fail and try and fail.

Chris Matthews (I know that’s television) is also entertaining, but only because he is just so OUT THERE that it’s entertaining to watch him make a fool out of himself nightly. It’s like audio vaudeville with him executing pratfalls in your ears constantly. Marc Maron is a really funny stand-up guy, but his preachy, whiny show on Air America was an unfettered disaster of liberal proselytizing that was just NOT entertaining.

Air America radio tried to be relevant but was too busy squandering million$ on impressive facilities in midtown Manhattan and on overpaying the aforementioned stand-up comedians and D-list actors who were NOT entertaining but sure as hell were idealogues. It failed despite several massive cash infusions. D-listers Al Franken and Jeneane Garofalo are NOT radio broadcasters, and their message-first schtick didn’t cut it. Oh yes, there were sycophantic hangers-on who hung on their every word and who thought they were the greatest thing ever, but their numbers were far too few to mean anything to advertisers. And for a political ideology that makes businesses out to be Satan himself, it’s kind of silly to then turn around and ask big businesses to support them when they’re howling about how pure evil big businesses are. The network failed to attract meaningful advertiser support (why feed those who seek to destroy you) and in many markets, had to BUY the air time it used. Meanwhile, El Rushbo charges—and charges a TON—for his show to be carried. Stations compete with each other for the right to pay for his show. Why? it is entertaining first and puts the message second. Advertisers support it and it pulls listener numbers. In Chicago, the nation’s third largest media market, Air America had to buy air time to be heard, and even at that it was on flea-powered stations that couldn’t be heard in large portions of the metro. Full powered stations wanted nothing to do with it.

Eventually, some liberal talk show host will put entertainment first. What do I mean by this? I mean, not going on the air and spending 3 hours wringing his hands bloody over the plight of (insert liberal cause here). Put more simply, liberals get ANGRY at conservatives. Conservatives LAUGH at liberals. To quote Billy Joel, “I’d rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints...the sinners are much more fun.”

Radio must be entertaining first. But because liberals can’t laugh at themselves and only display anger to those they oppose, they just aren’t fun to listen to. They are so busy cramming the message down your throat they forgot that no one likes a sermon and they’ve got sermonitis.

In the mean time, it’s fun to watch people like George Soros squander vast sums of money down a preachy, whiny rabbit hole. And the state of the art broadcast gear that Air America bought with it was a steal for a lot of actual radio pros at the liquidation.

So it will be until some liberal stops preaching and starts entertaining.

  • Sheriff Dart slams restrictions on concealed-carry background checks

    VideoPaul to G Larry

In Illinois they are sending to both state and FBI. The problem is that Mr. Dart and the Chicago machine are vehemently opposed to concealed carry in any form whatsoever, leaving only cops and criminals to be able to go armed. They wanted a carve-out for Chicago to draft its own laws that were different from the state law. Emanuel made it clear that he opposed ANYONE other than LEO’s to have concealed weapons. That didn’t happen and because Chicago is so used to getting its own way, the whining from Chicago is deafening. It’s also interesting to note that “the system” which Mr. Dart will tell you he expects everyone to follow and submit themselves to, he clearly doesn’t trust.

In my opinions, Dart is going to use this—objecting to anyone with even one arrest but no convictions for those crimes—to flood the review system and just bog everything down. The state will insist that is just can’t follow the 90 day law because of the volume of applications and objections, and we’ll be waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting, fulfilling the Chicago machine’s desire to have no concealed carry.

I’m still so curious to know how a government can break the law and nothing happens, but citizens break the law and get bent over the table. When you don’t follow a legally defined deadline as a citizen, you get fined or worse. The state is supposed to issue FOID cards within 30 days and has been running four and five times that, and the only thing is they say “we’re just too busy” and that’s the end of it. UI fear that “we’re just too busy” is going to be exactly what we hear from the CCW processing. I hope they will follow the 90 day law, but I’m not holding my breath.

The people wringing their hands bloody about how “it will turn into the wild west” have been wrong in every state they’ve put up a fuss in, and they are wrong here as well.

Meanwhile it was mayor Emanuel who spread bald-faced misinformation about the law. Emanuel who publicly said that “what every police chief in the country thinks” is that concealed carry should nto be allowed.

Another “inconvenient truth” is that in reality, many police chiefs endorse it, as did the Illinois association of police chiefs...and so did Mr. Emanuel’s very own Chicago Police Sergeant’s association. Perhaps Hizzonner should stop putting words in cops’ mouths, especially when so many are saying exactly the opposite publicly.

They know what hey know, don’t confuse them with the facts.

Of course, her convict husband’s felonious behavior had NOTHING to do with her problems. The fact that he is here against our laws has nothing to do with her problems.

I wonder how much she’d be for the government to simply stop enforcing the laws against RAPE, just like she wants them to stop enforcing the laws against illegal immigration. After all, doesn’t equal protection under the law mean that laws are enforced fairly and evenly? So if the government is going to decide to ignore one law, aren’t they required to ignore them all?

She wants laws enforced all right. She just doesn’t want ones that are inconvenient to HER enforced.

Wow..just think how shockingly unfair this is. A man here illegally commits a felony and the country decides to send him back from whence he came. WHY would any country want to keep a felon around that didn’t belong here in the first place? Wow, that would be unreasonable, wouldn’t it?

Perhaps she needs to “reform” how she picks her men. Try one who isn’t here illegally and one who doesn’t commit felonies, sweety. I just can’t generate a whole lot of sympathy for someone who makes crappy choices in men and then demands that society change to compensate for her lousy decisions. I’ll just BET she wanted herself a ‘bad boy’, which this story says she got.

If this sock puppet would have been allowed on board, someone could have been seriously hurt or worse.”

TSA director Papa Smurf refused to respond to reporters’ questions, but did E-mail a pre-produced pamphlet entitled “When Good Puppets Go Bad” which cites studies by the University of Gobbledygook showing that completely inert toy props, even unloaded ones, can cause grave damage. For the record, I was incorrect int he amount ND paid, it was 55k for Declan Sullivan’s lost life and some other miscellaneous fines for improper maintenance. In the official report, Indiana OSHA found that ND failed to concern itself with worker safety and failed to properly inspect and maintain its equipment. From the official report: In a statement, IOSHA said that “Notre Dame did not establish and maintain conditions of work that were reasonably safe for its employees that were free from recognized hazards that caused or were likely to cause death or serious injury.” The report specifically cites:

“• Knowingly exposing its employees to unsafe conditions by directing its untrained student videographers to use the scissor lift during a period of time when the National Weather Service issued an active wind advisory with sustained winds and guests in excess of the manufactured specifications and warnings. $55,000 fine.

In addition, part of the family’s statement not only points up that for all of the apologizing, their son is still in fact dead and the hands of those who put football over life, and “the program” is in fact changing its procedures. too bad they didn’t change them before the guy died. From the family’s statement:

“We appreciate the thorough investigation by the Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration (IOSHA) concerning the circumstances surrounding the death of our son, Declan. This report is an important step in preventing future accidents, but its findings do not change the fact that Declan is not with us.

Our family supports the efforts by the University of Notre Dame to halt the use of hydraulic lifts to film football practices and install remote-controlled cameras. We are confident that Notre Dame will address the additional issues raised in the IOSHA report.”

One last thought...”the program” failed to inspect that equipment for safety for more than a year. Want to guess how often players’ helmets and pads are inspected by “the program”? I’m willing to bet on “at least once a week”. It is surely more often than they inspected that lift.

As for “scurrilous” and “slander”, when the OSHA report says they KNOWINGLY did things that they KNOWINGLY knew were LIKELY to cause serious death or injury in a finding of facts, my comments are neither scurrilous nor slanderous. That’s the inspectors’ report’s words, not mine. Do you think they would have sent their star quarterback up in that lift in those winds? Hell no, that night have injured a player. It’s really tough to spin that in any way but them knowingly sending a guy up to a dangerous height in high winds in equipment that hadn’t been properly inspected or maintained or even adequately training that worker. That’s being totally indifferent to human life and no, I don’t see any other way to spin that.

And yes, of COURSE they showed all kinds of regret and concern after the guy died. This was a serious, serious situation that required immediate action as it might harm “the program”.

As I said, enjoy the game.
