This might sound strange, but I think the advent of internet porn has helped Playboy's image. Before it became the huge industry it is today, a strong case could be made that a sizable number of PB's readers were just buying the mag to, well, improve the muscles of one of their arms, if you know what I mean ;) However, now that porn can be found at the click of a mouse button, these types of people will no longer buy Playboy, so the magazine's remaining readers (probably) don't do this type of thing.
As for Playboy toning down, well, I'm not sure what to think of it yet. I'm in a "wait and see" mode right now.
Yet another European liberal chiding Israelis for voting the "wrong" way. They were aghast at Bush's speech calling for Arafat to step down, yet support the same for the only legitimately democratic government in the Mideast.
The naivety of these people are mind-boggling to me. Notice they don't give any concrete examples of their "awsome, fantastic, sincere, extremely positive, hospitable, and loving" treatment of women. The reason: THERE IS NONE!
Calling these people "useful idiots" would be an understatement.
What he also fails to mention is that perhaps the reason Georgians care so much about their Civil War dead was that their state was the site of William T. Sherman's infamous "March to the Sea". Sherman remains today one of the most hated, if not THE most hated, man in the South.
But, anytime people in the south start talking about honoring the hundreds of thousands of Confederate dead, including soliders, men, women, and children, people cry "racist!" or "Slavery-supporter!". It's one of the best examples of PC run amok. I say: Let the flag fly! (And I''m a Minnesotan, that now-former stronghold of liberalism)
And you make a good point of how the British leaned toward the Confederacy.
I've been thinking about joining the CR for quite some time, but I've been too occupied with my classes and looking for a job to get to it. I'm doing very well, though. Haven't gotten anything lower than a B+ yet!
I'm also thinking of joining a branch of the ROTC. I'm majoring in Computer Science, so they could use some of my skills.
However, right now my priorities are doing well in my classes and finding a job. I don't think that's going to change for a while.
Thanks to everyone for giving me advice on how to survive here!
