I just received my coupon from Cabela's today in the mail and must say I am both surprised and disappointed. Not only was the amount lowered from $100 to $75 off a $500 purchase, but now it does not apply to firearms. Awhile back, I was talking to several guys at a gun show who remembered when it was $150. The magic of Cabela's is definitely disappearing. Sad.

Shares of Cabela's (NYSE: CAB) soared more than 30% last week on record fourth-quarter 2008 results, which were driven by strong firearms sales. According to management, 2009 performance is set to pack less pow, but given a strengthened balance sheet and modest expansion plans, I say Cabela's deserves a closer look. (AP) A record 124-pound blue catfish caught earlier this week by an Illinois man fishing in the Mississippi River died on its way to the Cabela's Outfitter store where it was to go on display. Tim Pruitt, 33, of Godfrey, Ill., caught the world-record blue catfish early Sunday near Alton. Cabela's opens its 230,000-square-foot outfitter store/museum May 26 at Interstate 35W and State Highway 170 in far north Fort Worth.
