Insitu has teamed with BOSH Global Services to train U.S. Air Force Academy cadets on the disciplines critical to planning and executing missions using unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), specifically Insitu's ScanEagle, from within the Air Forces' Air Operations Center (AOC). The training is designed to familiarize academy cadets with UAS and to give them first-hand knowledge of how these systems can be integrated into Air Force Operations to support warfighters worldwide. "ScanEagle was chosen because it is a superior system that is extremely intuitive, giving cadets a hands-on learning experience almost from day one," said U.S. Air Force Academy Lt....

Military officials are prohibiting cadets in a high school training program from providing a color guard for an upcoming tea party protest rally in Indiana. The decision from the Marine Corps JROTC headquarters in Washington to the Portage High School group came Wednesday, just before the district's school board was to have a special meeting to discuss objections to the students' participation. The tea party event appeared to be a political rally and the military must remain unbiased, said 2nd Lt. Brian Villiard, a spokesman from the JROTC headquarters. "We want to avoid the appearance of the military leaning towards...

Before the speech, Col. James Seidule, a history professor at West Point, talked about the history of presidential visits to the military academy. Then he issued two stiff pieces of advice to the 4,400 cadets. The first was to avoid distracting Obama from the "serious business of addressing the American people." The second tip was on applause. Never clap to show support for policy decisions, Seidule said. Only clap when Obama enters the room, finishes his speech and when he mentions the hard work and valor of the military. "We are the executors, not the advocates, of national policy," he...

6/7/2006 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- Summertime for university students is normally the chance to relax and unwind after surviving grueling semesters of cramming for exams and researching term papers. Some students spend this time at home with their family; some travel to tropical vacations spots. Some students go to a war zone. Nineteen U.S. Air Force Academy juniors and seniors embarked on a summer intern program of sorts on June 5, when they arrived in Southwest Asia to begin a nearly four-week, hands-on orientation with the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing at an air base supporting operations Iraqi Freedom and...

Two weeks ago, I pointed out that we live in something close to the best of times, with record worldwide economic growth and at a low point in armed conflict in the world. Yet Americans are in a sour mood, a mood that may be explained by the lack of a sense of history. The military struggle in Iraq (nearly 2,500 military deaths) is spoken of in as dire terms as Vietnam (58,219), Korea (54,246) or World War II (405,399). We bemoan the cruel injustice of $3 a gallon for gas in a country where three-quarters of people classified as...

Air Force Cadets on Edge After Scandal By ROBERT WELLER Associated Press Writer Jan 2, 4:36 PM AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) -- A year after the rape scandal at the Air Force Academy broke, some cadets say the atmosphere is so poisonous that they are afraid a simple request for a date or a sip of alcohol could end their careers. And some cadets warn that the once-punishing training regimen has been relaxed so much that the Air Force's effectiveness could suffer. Yet, some freshmen say they are pleased they no longer are treated "like dirt." In recent interviews...

Word of The Week Duty - 10/19/2003 Definition of the word of the week (DUTY): Moral obligation and the compulsion felt to meet such obligation. In a letter to his son, Robert E. Lee wrote, “Duty is the most sublime word in the English language. You can never do more, you should never wish to do less.” I am proud to report that we have several cadets who have done their duty serving their country in Iraq and will return to the Cadet Corps next quarter. They fulfilled their obligation to our great nation and while serving with distinction. They...
