I have a low-cost JVC HM50, a Flip HD Video Ultra, and a DXG-125 High Definition Digital Camcorders. All serve their intended purpose well considering their relatively low cost. I also have a Sony DCR-TRV-608 Hi8 Tape Recorder and an even older Panasonic PV-420 VHS Tape Recorder. The Panasonic is the reason for my post. I wanted to call upon the wide range of FreeRepublic members because searching the Internet hasn’t been entirely successful. The VHS Panasonic has two features, Time lapse and High Speed Shutter Recording, I want in a Digital Camcorder. The “Time Lapse Recording” is the more...

Passenger films Northwest Flight 253 bomb attempt On Northwest flight 253 this past Christmas day as we all now know, a Nigerian man attempted to blow up the plane which thankfully failed. But with nearly 300 passengers and crew on board you would expect that someone with a camera or better yet a camcorder would be filming or taking pictures. These days most everyone has a cell phone with camera or video capabilities. Well there was at least one man that we know of that was filming the entire event, witness’s on board mentioned it during the various interviews that...

I need to get a camcorder for the DC teaparty and general political activism. I figure in these turbulent times others probably are considering the same so I thought I'd throw it out to seek the collective wisdom of FReeperdom.

This story begins with a plan. Like my brother-in-lay, my plan was simple. Go out and bag a new camcorder in my front yard. Well, except my front yard is actually my computer monitor when hunting for electronics. So, I start shopping around. Should take me just a few minutes because I'm not looking for a 7 point buck (or 500 bucks!). Just a simple camcorder, right. WRONG! I've recently discovered that coffee isn't the only thing out there that requires a tutorial on whether you'd prefer a latte', mocha, mocha latte', mocha java, Chai, Espresso, Cappuccino, or Barrista (What's...

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (AP) -- Seth Hammes was filming in the woods when his camcorder recorded the crack of gunshots, the 17-year-old's screams and the voice of the alleged shooter, promising help that never came. Authorities say they might never have learned what happened to Hammes, who later died in the woods. "But right next to him was the videotape," Monroe County Sheriff Pete Quirin said Thursday. "That's when we knew we had a homicide on our hands." After viewing and listening to the tape, police tracked down 24-year-old Russell Schroeder, who now faces charges of reckless homicide and reckless...

I need to get a new digital camcorder for use in filming underwater subjects. I have been told that the Sony TRV 950 is an excellent choice. I have been told that it is more user friendly than the VX 2000 or the Canon equivalent.

CROOKS: TROUBLED, HOMELESS NADER FAN The LA Times pieces together details of videotaper Mitchell Crooks’ wayward life today. Among the tidbits: Crooks moved to LA three years ago to make his fortune as a rave deejay, but ended up occasionally homeless and desperate. He was winding up a two-month road trip with 42-year-old pal Dan Hanna, and the two had spent the last few weeks flopping at various cheap hotels in the Southland. After taping the Donovan Jackson head-slam, Crooks sold copies of the video to TV stations for $150 a pop. He’s also a political nut: The Times describes...
