My Nephew-in-law is in his 3 tour in Iraq. He leads a squad of 22 soldiers who are not near any military base. Our family sends out monthly care packages to him and his men. Last week they lost 3 who were temporarily attached to them for a special mission. With all the bad press out there I would like to send in my next care package "words of praise and encouragement" for these guys. Can you take a minute and write a note to them. I will print out each note separately (that is appropriate) and include it in...

FORT HUACHUCA — While deployed in Kuwait, Spc. Herbert Brown remembers how much he and his comrades appreciated the little things from home. So when boxes of Girl Scout cookies were shipped to his unit, the men and women were completely moved by the gesture of good will. “It’s really hard to express how much this means to the soldiers,” Brown said, recalling what it was like to be on the receiving end of the cookies. “I was in Kuwait in ‘05-’06, and it meant a lot that people I didn’t even know were thinking about me.” For the past...

ANY SOLDIER As the Veterans Day weekend wraps up, a letter-to-the-editor published in today's Nevada Appeal tells about a wonderful program called "Any Soldier" in which all of us across the country can do something a little more substantive than slapping a "I Support Our Troops" bumper sticker on the backs of our cars. http:\\www.anysoldier.com is a Website with a huge database of troop names and units where one may read their messages and choose whomever you would like to adopt," Jessi Winchester notes. "The contact person for each unit has agreed to accept mail and packages for distribution to...

Website gives Americans info needed to bless overseas service personnel The website AnySoldier.com has capitalized on Americans' desire to uplift our military men and women overseas by providing the opportunity to send care packages filled with needed personal items. Founded by Sgt. Brian Horn, an Army Infantry Soldier with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, AnySoldier.com says generous Americans have used the service to brighten the days of nearly 100,000 personnel to date. While serving in Iraq in 2003, Horn came up with the idea to receive packages addressed to "Any Soldier" and distribute them to buddies who were not getting much...

Alright, since my friends in Iraq/en route don't really check their email alot, I needed to get some questions answered. I've check the websites of UPS, USPS, and Fed Ex and tried to do info on shipping to Iraq but really do not find much help to ship to the bases there. I assume its best to use USPS to ship to Iraq so I've been guessing I'll use that. My bestfriend that is there atm loves Mountain Dew so I was wondering if its possible to send that or if they'll not allow that to be sent. Also what...

Sergeant Vaughn got a care package today. It’s been almost forty years since I got my last one, a case of twenty-four #2½ cans of sliced peaches from my father. Memory fails me now, but I don’t believe I ever asked before he died what it cost to mail that monster, but it must have been a pretty hefty hit in the wallet for a lifelong blue-collar worker. I had happened to mention in one of my rare letters home from Vietnam that canned, sliced peaches were my favorite item in our C Rations even if they were twenty years...

He told me how wonderful the care packages were and wanted me to tell everyone thank you. He said that one guy we’ll call “Marine X” did get a girl care package and everyone was giving him a hard time. My son said, "Marine X got some really nice smelling lotion and everyone really likes it, so everytime he goes to sleep they steal it from him." I told my son I was really sorry about the mistake, and if he wanted I would send Marine X another package. He told me not to worry about Marine X because everytime...

I've got a bunch of Christmas cards ("proudly MADE in the U.S.A.") that will be going with the last Christmas care packages for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan with candy canes and other goodies, and I need some fun jokes to go in them! Please both post your joke here and then send a copy to me by FReepmail with your first name, town and State at the bottom. I'll print them up and tuck them in the last 4 or 5 dozen cards going out tomorrow and Tuesday.

It's not difficult to send care packages to troops Steve Bumbaugh, right, a shipping and receiving employee at Landis Threading Systems and president of IAM Local 2530, hands one of the packages bound for Iraq to Waynesboro postal clerk Bill Dingle. By Jennifer Fitch The Record Herald WAYNESBORO - A few months ago, a group of rural postal carriers and post office managers from areas south of Harrisburg decided to do something for soldiers serving overseas. They gathered soldiers' names from friends and the community and filled between 40 and 60 boxes with such items as hard candy, bug spray,...

NEAR DULUIYAH, Iraq - Christmas has come and gone, but any Stryker brigade soldier will tell you that any day is a good day for a care package. But what's in the perfect care package? Soldiers typically tick off a list of personal hygiene stuff - baby wipes, shampoo, toothpaste, foot powder, nice soap, and razors, electric and otherwise. But such items are often easy to find over here. Then there are the snacks - everybody's got their favorite. "What about those Oreos you can only get at Christmas?" said Spc. Jashia Davis. "And a big box full of Twix...

I have been thinking about this for a while, and I thought I would finally throw this out to my Freeper Friends in the hope that someone would have a suggestion.I would like to provide some moral support for our troops in a direct way. I do not personally know anyone in the service who has been called to active duty over seas, but I would like to -- on a recurring basis -- send emails, letters and small packages of helpful items to about a half dozen servicemen or women. In the best of all worlds, the recipients would be...
