John Edwards surfaces in S.F. -- alongside Karl Rove! OMG! Forget Sarah Palin's comeback in Miami, how 'bout that news that John Edwards, two-time former Democratic presidential candidate, surfaced Thursday in San Francisco ... on stage alongside ''the architect'' himself, Karl Rove. Bad economy and all, apparently the Commercial Financial Association had the big bucks to bring in GOP strategist Rove and Edwards to debate at its annual convention at the Marriott Hotel. We don't have the price tag on this event, but Rove's reported speaking fee is $40,000, and -- we reported last year -- Edwards reaped $55,000 for a...

WASHINGTON -- Karl Rove says he's not The Exorcist. Rove, the Bush political shaman Democrats love to demonize, enlisted a trio of clergymen to exorcize Hillary Rodham Clinton's left-wing spirit when he moved into her West Wing office in 2001, according to an unflattering new biography. "I talked to Karl; he said it's not true and, beyond that, he will have no comment," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. Clinton smiled and shook her head in disbelief yesterday when asked about the tale, which appears in "The Architect: Karl Rove and the Master Plan for Absolute Power," by James Moore...

White House political strategist Karl Rove said Tuesday that the highly charged immigration debate has "clouded" the views of some Americans, leading them to dismiss the importance of immigrants and their contribution to the nation's success. "Everything that this country is, everything that we have achieved, everything that we hold, everything that we promise, is because we are a nation of diversity, brought together by immigration, and sharing a common dream," Rove told members of the nation's largest Hispanic civil rights group, the National Council of La Raza. Rove ticked off enforcement elements of the president's proposal, but added, "All...

Democrats are distraught over reports that Leakgate Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has decided not to indict senior White House advisor Karl Rove. A sampling of liberal web sites shortly after the news was announced Tuesday morning featured reaction ranging from disbelief to denial to the desperate hope that Rove has turned states evidence against Vice President Dick Cheney. "How could this snake slither away from an indictment?" complained one visitor to the Huffington Post web site - where bloggers had confidently predicted that Fitzgerald's probe would yield up to 23 White House indictments. "This man lied to the DC Grand...

Republican lawmakers say that ties between Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) and his brother's lobbying firm, KSA Consulting, may warrant investigation by the House ethics committee... According to a June 13 article in The Los Angeles Times, the fiscal 2005 defense appropriations bill included more than $20 million in funding for at least 10 companies for whom KSA lobbied. Carmen Scialabba, a longtime Murtha aide, works at KSA as well. KSA directly lobbied Murtha's office on behalf of seven companies, and a Murtha aide told a defense contractor that it should retain KSA to represent it, according to the LA Times....

With a Friday deadline looming for Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald to bring charges in the alleged unauthorized disclosure of a CIA employee's identity, newspapers are full of stories about a "public relations blitz" at the White House. The Boston Globe reported that the "outlines" of that PR blitz emerged Sunday, when Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex.) told NBC's "Meet the Press" she hoped the indictments -- if there are any -- would not be based on "technicalities."

NEW ORLEANS - Hurricane Rita's wind and rain breached two of New Orleans' battered levees Friday and sent water gushing into already-devastated neighborhoods just days after they had been pumped dry. In the impoverished Ninth Ward, water streamed through gaps at least 100 feet wide in a levee and was soon waist-deep on a nearby street. It began covering buckled homes, piles of rubble and mud-caked cars that Katrina had swamped with up to 20 feet of water nearly a month ago. Officials with the Army Corps of Engineers said other levees appeared secure, including those breached during Katrina, but...

As Air Force One made its final approach to Andrews Air Force Base on Tuesday afternoon, White House senior adviser Karl Rove juggled a telephone, a pen and a piece of paper, anxiously copying down the first wave of exit polls that showed President Bush trailing John F. Kerry. "I saw this look on his face and then the phone died," said White House communications director Dan Bartlett. "He said, 'Not good.' " It was, Bartlett added, "like a punch in the gut." At that point, years of planning and preparation appeared in doubt. Skeptics in the Democratic and Republican...

The political leak from the White House has all the elements of a classic Washington scandal, playing perfectly into the game plan of the compulsive Bush-hating Democratic hacks who thirst for political blood. And this is not to mention their willing accomplices in the national media who will gladly do the Democrats' dirty work and exploit what is essentially a non-story. There is just one thing standing in the way - the truth. Allow me to concede that members of the Bush Administration did incidentally leak Valerie Plame's identity. This is about the only fact the media has reported accurately...
