Unless you're among the bean-sprout-sized minority of Americans who describe themselves as "vegans" (vegetarians who also won't touch milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, or even a dollop of honey), you may have been alarmed by the publicity surrounding an article appearing last month in the journal Pediatrics. The anti-milk piece -- written by activists from the PETA-affiliated Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) -- concluded that feeding milk to children is unnecessary, and that there are better ways (kale, tofu, turnip greens, or spinach, for instance) for kids to get the calcium they need. In reaching this result, PCRM relied on...

Balrog666 gets the credit for the kitty theme this week. His pictures show a white cat trying to match wits with an American Eagle. Let’s just called it “Kitty Doesn’t Know Who He is Messing With”. I hope this is Viking Kitty training. Oh ****, element of surprise is lost. Oh double ****; that move didn’t work either. Reinforcement has been called, but he doesn’t look too interested. Many ZOT threads lately; maybe JimRob can use this guy to help with this problem.

I have created a public register of "bump lists" here on Free Republic. I define a bump list as a name listed in the "To" field used to index articles. Free Republic Bump List Register

A feel good story this week. Two threads about a kitten swimming in the Gulf Coast off Florida. First picture is the lucky kitten. Balrog666 contributed two other pictures for this week’s thread. Last picture is a random selection. The swimming kitten. Name is Nemo. Here is the poster who started the thread. Courtesy of balrog666. Itty Bitty Kitty ! Courtesy of balrog666. This photo reminds me of Winston Churchill. Don’t know why.

Since Tuesday will be chaos (back to work after a three-day weekend), it is best to start the kitty thread this week now (Monday evening). I think these are all new pictures and we have at least two cats in each picture. Partners in their daily job, which is mostly funny business. Tag, you’re it !!! Looks like the 100 meter Olympic trials --- and no steroids !!! Takedown !!! – Two points for the black kitty. Wake-Up call !
-
Back to Monday, here we go again. Work is still chaos so didn’t have much time to lurk/post on FR or come up with a good topic thread. Instead, we get more kitty pictures with no clear theme. I can use some ideas for thread themes. OK, on with the captions. All new pictures this week. ”Look, my own little bunny rabbit !!! --- I will name him George, and will …..” Milk stinks --- Drink water !! One method to keep cool, but what happened to all the groceries? Troll treat for Viking Kitties. Courtesy of Dallas59.
-
Back to Monday, here we go again. I didn’t post or lurk on FR for a whole week. Shame on me. Too much stuff happening; this week CAN’T be anymore hectic. I don’t have a real good topic this week, so we have some unrelated kitty pictures to caption. Swing Batter Batter – Swing Batter Batter Swing ! Kitty Kondo. Lakers LOST NBA Finals? Perhaps They Need Players Who Can JUMP ? You Must Lurk (At Least) Every Day --- Next Time You Get This.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Here in Houston, we hosted a Freeper party on Saturday as the Jim Robinson tour paid us a visit. The party went well, aided by live thread, live food (crawfish, at least until it was cooked), and web cam. We are all partied out. Time to go back to work. Kitty also had a good time at party. These pictures prove it. No Cooking Necessary, Like My Food Fresh. Temperature is 95 F; Go Ahead, Squirt Me Human !! All Your Crawfish Is Belong To Us !! That Was Some Party – Nap Time...

We were all saddened on Saturday (5 June) by the passing of former President Ronald Reagan. Among his many skills and accomplishments, one of his nicknames was “The Great Communicator”. In honor of our 40th President, we present cats trying to imitate “The Great Communicator”. Go Ahead, Make My Day !! Mister Cat Owner, Please Feed Me Now !! There You Go Again. Win One For The Gipper !!

Hope everyone had a good weekend. Remember last week’s thread? We hired a new information technology person. IT not only stands for information technology, but also the cat’s gender (if you know what I mean). Looks like the (you know what) wasn’t the only thing removed. What is up with this cat’s brain? Looks like this hire is not going to work. Here are a few photo of the IT department in action. Dog goof off too much. Now I can monitor his website usage. ”All your spreadsheets are belong to us” That does it, everyone’s getting a cheap laptop...

HOW ABOUT THIS --- KITTY THREAD THIS WEEK IS ON TIME (Again). This is the season of college graduations. That means hundreds of thousands of college graduates have to go out and find work (those college loans come due someday). That means job hunting, resume writing, and interviewing. I have a recruit in the office today (Monday) for an interview and I will be one of three people asking the tough questions and making the tough decision. Pictures this week focus on two similar themes. 1) How do you know this recruit is not the one? 2) How do you...

HOW ABOUT THIS --- KITTY THREAD THIS WEEK IS ON TIME…. If you live near a large city, you know what time of year it is…. Most regions of the country have two seasons (winter AND construction). Winter is over. Construction season has begun. To get from Point A to Point B, we need to follow the cat’s advice. New Toll Collection System – Coming to an area near you. New Flag Girl – Note that armor is required near the Houston Metro Train. Winter is over? That is news to me. Road Construction Engineering Meeting. Payday at the job...

This is kitty caption thread number 50 since its revival about one year ago. Enough of all that, where have I been? It has been a hectic last two weeks. Chaos at work. You know how it is; multiple customer have problems and they all need solutions before they even tell you what it is they want. Throw in a few computer glitches, details regarding a technical conference, and a former fellow employee who didn’t know his fingers from his (behind), and you have chaos even Agent 99 from Get Smart would have trouble handling. Things are back to normal...

Two topics this week. First a heart warming article. Pfc Hammer (a tiger striped Iraqi Kitten) has found a home in the United States. I have linked the FR thread below (thanks to Sciencediet and Ragtime Cowgirl to bringing this to my attention). The humor side of this thread involves the mind numbing game of chess. A picture of Pfc. Hammer. Courtesy of Ragtime Cowgirl. The Knight (also doubles as Viking Kitty Armor). Meow thinks this is one of the Bishops. Last but not least, the King and Queen of the chessboard.

Springtime at last. Winter is over (if it still cold where you are, tough). Flowers are blooming (if you have allergies, sorry), young men have (you know what) on their minds, baseball season has started (no-one has been eliminated yet), most of the election primaries are over with (thank goodness). A few kitty pictures to remind you that spring is here. Today is the Boston Marathon. Here is my predicted winner. Courtesy of humblegunner. Mating call gone too good. Weekend drives in the Hill Country. Just lookout for this. Hibernation over, time to get up and go to work.

Is the presumed DNC nominee John Kerry, John F. Kerry, Jack F. Kerry, or whatever he will call himself to help his election chances? I found four cats with names Jack or Johnny. Time to meet the voters. Jack: Vote for me, or I will rip your arm off !! Another Jack: Troll taste good. One less vote for the opposition. Another Jack: The things I do to get votes in Cajun Country. Johnny: Doing his best Howard Dean imitation. RRRAAAAAHHH.

Today is Opening Day of the baseball season. Play Ball !!!! Chicago White Sox season ruined already. They blew a 7-3 lead in the 9th inning today. Guess why? Baseball season? It’s WABBIT season !! It’s DUCK season !! It’s open season on Trolls…. Happy Troll Hunting.

Tuesday evening is when this thread was posted. What happened to Monday? Depends on what excuse you will believe. Another Houston Metro light-rail crash. Here is the replacement vehicle. Neighborhood invaded by “attack cats”!! Computer sabotaged; here is proof. Kitty locked me out of my house.

Happy Monday (or Tuesday) Everyone. Time for this week’s kitty thread. Cats often act like children, so let’s combine them this week. Hey Look, Cat Likes Broccoli Toy – MINE !! Hey, This is MY Bed. Kitty Want a Bath ?

GOOD MEOWING EVERYONE. Time for this week’s kitty thread. Spring break for some (including the cats). Normal week for the rest of us. Mom, This is NOT a cat ! Bad cat, bad cat, what ya gonna do when they come for you. Democat Protestor ? Dog Gone Wild ?

GOOD MEOWING EVERYONE. Time for this week’s kitty thread. Since the HBO series The Sopranos re-starts, what better theme for the kitty thread? Squirt me, forgettabouttit. Compliments of 4mycountry. We have your weapons now, nah nah nah nah nah. Compliments of 4mycountry. Using your best Al Pacino imitation, “Say hello to my little friend” Look what you did, you scared troll to death Courtesy of Tamsey. Viking Kitty doesn’t need a gun; lightning bolt much faster. Courtesy of sciencediet.

GOOD MEOWING EVERYONE. Time for this week’s kitty thread. The big news lately is not Iraq, not the “battle” for the democrat presidential nomination, but in the Caribbean nation of Haiti. Who do we blame for the mess in Haiti? Aristide (maybe), Clinton (maybe). Since French is the main language spoken, let’s pick on France this week. Kitty Caught by Haitian Catnip Ring. The Original “French Surrender Kitty” Dang French poodle. Didn’t I see you surrender the other day? OK scared little kitty, out from the dresser.
-
GOOD MEOWING EVERYONE. Time for this week’s kitty thread. This week we feature public service. A sampling of those employed to protect and serve our fair cities. New department Fire Chief. County pest exterminator; potential intruder captured, killed, and eaten. Compliments of sciencediet. Your new Pastor/Preacher/Rabbi. Compliments of retrokitten. Pinky the policeman. License and registration please.

It’s a miracle. This week’s kitty thread is posted at its normal time (about 4:15 am CST on Monday). One good thing about the recent surge of ZOT threads; they are a good source for finding new kitty pictures. All five pictures this week are making their first appearance on the Kitty Caption threads. Five new pictures, it’s a miracle. Don’t mess with the Viking Kitties Yuck, Troll tasted so bad, human had to wash me. World Champion Troll Hunter Compliments of sciencediet. Trolls all dead. Time to show dog who is master.

There was no kitty thread last week. I have plenty of excuses if you want to hear them. Lots of partying over the last two weeks in the Houston area. Chowdah heads from New England invaded Houston for the victory in the Super Bowl, and the H.A.T. FR Chapter celebrated their two-year anniversary. Time for this week’s kitty captions. Here was the bouncer at the H.A.T. FR party - . Compliments of EggsAckley. I don’t drink alcohol; neither does my cat. Compliments of radu. For those of us to do consume adult beverages, first round on me !!! Compliments of...

Didn’t have any specific topic in mind for the kitty thread this week. The pictures have no obvious common theme. These pictures have not been featured in recent kitty threads, so at least we have some new material to consider. Enjoy. Hear me roar ! Compliments of sweetliberty. Ready for the next troll. Compliments of 4mycountry. Trouble imitating “Super Cat”. Compliments of abner. New picture for the Zot threads. Compliments of sciencediet. I didn’t do it, nobody saw me do it, can’t prove anything. Compliments of sciencediet.

Is there a Veterinarian still awake? Please help! By mistake, I gave my kitty 1 ml of Betadine by mouth instead of an oral pain medication (Torbuterol elixir). I'm an idiot! I wasn't paying enough attention and the bottles are similar. Help! What should I do? The emergency vet is not open until around 8 a.m. I don't want to lose my furbaby. Please help. Thanks.

Here we go. The race for the presidency really begins as the first state caucus/primary where the results actually count takes place today in Iowa. Only a few delegates are at stake, but Iowa and New Hampshire usually are critical regarding determination of the nominees because of the “bandwagon” effect. The democrat field is really a sorry bunch of choices, so one of our furry friends has decided to enter the race for the deomcrat (demoCAT) nomination. Here is our candidate making an important policy speech. Medicare reform made simple. 1) Legalization of catnip. 2) Banishment of all veternarian medicine....

I have been quiet lately. Mostly due to being busy at work (at that is not so bad), have not been posting much on FR since the beginning of the year. So quiet that even the kitties have been taking longer naps than usual. Here are a few pictures from their lengthy naps. Sleep is considered exercise to this cat. ZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZ ZZZZZZZZZZZ. Drunk kitty – needs long nap. One more kitty taking a nap. OOPS --- I screw up. Must be too early in the morning. Back to my nap.

Happy New Year to everyone. Vacation is now over and time to return to our regular activities (including the weekly kitty thread). While diminished in stature in recent years, the summer Olympics take place in Athens, Greece this year and our athletes have begun qualification and training. While the United States usually wins its share of medals, this year we take no chances in several events. Equestrian – U.S. typically not strong in this event. We will be prepared this year. Just one problem; horse (not moose) required. Courtesy of Balrog666. Basketball – U.S. has had too many close calls...

One of our kitty friends (abner) has a new kitten. Until notified otherwise, the name of the kitten is “Trouble”. Links on recent threads contain plenty of adorable pictures, so this week we feature this new addition of the abner family. OK, let us have some fun with these pictures. Silent Night? ---- Not when Trouble is awake.Hey Mom, Give me some of that eggnog. Live toy? Mine Mine, All Mine !! Waiting for Santa. Viking Kitty Training – Kill Troll, Must Kill Troll

I have some explaining to do people. There was no kitty thread last week. I was sick with the flu most of last week so decided to give the kitty thread the week off. Sorry about the mix-up last week. The big news over the weekend was obvious. Saddam Hussein has been captured. Time to rejoice and celebrate for the moment. While there are other facets of the war on terror yet to complete (location of WMD and OBL among them) the capture of Saddam represents a big milestone victory for the “coalition of the willing”. Regarding the interrogation of...

Basic Rules For Cats Who Run A House DOORS: Do not allow closed doors in any room. To get a door opened, stand on hind legs and hammer it with forepaws. Once door is opened, it is not necessary to use it. After you have ordered an "outside" door opened, stand halfway in and out and think about several things. This is particularly important during very cold weather, rain, snow, or mosquito season. Swinging doors are to be avoided at all costs. GUESTS: Quickly determine which guest hates cats the most. Sit on that lap. For sitting on laps...

OK, back to work today for most of us. I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving holiday, ate lots of turkey (giving a little to the cats on the side), and finished all your holiday shopping. I hear a new Bond movie is coming out with the familiar "world domination" theme. One significant difference: the evil-doers are not Russian, Chinese, or some scientist gone-mad. It is our beloved friend, the cat. Some of you have seen this e-mail but since it hasn’t been posted in over a year, think it is time for a refresher. TOP SIXTEEN SIGNS YOUR CAT...

My big old cat, Cloyd, passed away today, after 19 years of life with me. He came to me as a kitten, with his “brother” Gidney. Grey toms. Gidney and Cloyd (named after the Moonmen in Rocky & Bullwinkle) had distinctly different personalities. Gidney was hyper; Cloyd laid back. Gidney was starved for affection, like a clinging girlfriend. Cloyd, from the beginning, was an irascible beast, accepting affection grudgingly, on his terms. I didn’t much care for Gidney. I came to love Cloyd with all my heart. Gidney was “easy”; a slut. Cloyd played hard-to-get, a challenge. He seemed to...

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone (even you dog people). For this week only, I am NOT using the Roman numerals for the thread number. Take a wild guess as to why (and shame on you for doing so, ROFLOL). This is a very short workweek for most of us. Thursday is the Thanksgiving holiday and Friday is the day some of us start the holiday shopping. I thought this would be a good week to show some of the mischief that goes on at Thanksgiving, when our feline friends have a say on the festivities. Allegra and w_over_w provided most of the...

Two freepers in the Houston area are going to have a little “cat fight” this week. One is a season ticket holder and devoted Houston Texans fan. The other (me) is a born and raised fan of the New England Patriots. These two teams will face each other on the gridiron in Houston this coming Sunday. In appreciation of this anticipated football match, we have started a little football trash talk thread. Since both of us are cat people, the little furry ones have started their own “anticipation” of the football match. Here are the kitties practicing their “end-zone” dance....

Monday Evening. Time for the Kitty Thread. Yeah, I'm late. Watcha goin' do, ZOT me? Anyway, it is time for the next generation of Viking Kitties to begin their training. Here is a group photo. Notice the diversity in this crew. Of course, until this group of kitties are ready, we leave all Zots to the master.

Do you know what day it is tomorrow (Tuesday, November 4th)? It is ELECTION DAY. Make sure you get out and vote. A friend of mine went to early vote and he lives in a precinct where demo”cats” seem to be in control of the electoral process. This cat served as precinct judge. These cats served as campaign volunteers working to convince voters to cast their ballot a certain way. These cats made certain that voters cast their ballots “correctly”. Too many votes cast for the opposition; this cat corrected that little "problem". Viking Kitties to the rescue. Honest electoral...

Good Morning Kitty Freepers. Rise and Shine for another Monday Most of us had one extra hour sleep this weekend, so no excuse for being sluggish out of bed. For those of you living in states/counties that didn't turn your clocks back, get up and shine anyway. Freeper science_diet has found at least one kitty that is willing to help. Just "do as the kitty does" for five minutes of stretching and y'all should be ready to go.

Monday evening. Time for the kitty thread. There appears to be something strange going around lately. Whatever it is, apparently orange cats are affected. They seem to have this uncontrollable craving for human fingers. Be careful as this picture shows. Harmless kitten my "you know what". I see the kitty above learned this tactic from the adult cat shown below (also orange).
-
Happy "Columbus Day" Everyone. I don't recall or care what names the left call it. I put the holiday in quotes because for most of us (myself included), today is NOT a holiday. No holiday for me; no holiday for the kitty thread. Time for the weekly picture. Two pictures this week. First the more humorous one. This was found in a recent ZOT thread. It was posted by Admin Moderator and I was pinged to it by MEG33. Let us not forget our brave soldiers still fighting in the Middle East. The thread linked below shows some of these...

Due to the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), the kitty humor thread is posted today. While the owner is busy repenting for his sins (even if he did not commit any), the kitty decides to go on vacation. One of the Houston Freepers (Flyer) spotted him during his recent foray to Hawaii.

Monday morning. WAKE UP. Time for the kitty caption. Once again, w_over_w is the contributor. Two things come to mind with this photo. 1) Back to work day. As we walk out the door, our furry friend feels sorry for us, NOT. 2) This cat is done with picture taking for now and just wants to show-off.
-
It looks like the California recall election for October 7th is on. Four weeks after that is the typical November 4th municipal elections, and some of those races may result in run-offs. While democrats have been fuming over the last three years about antiquated voting machines, no one has bothered to mention the stations (booths) in which said voting takes place --- until now. This picture courtesy of Allegra from the Houston chapter. One of her cats (I think Finbar) is trying out the new and improved demoCAT voting booth. Looks like plenty of room, lots of privacy, and easy...

Gentlemen, you have been fooled. It is a picture of a kitten with Ann Coulter's latest book. I knew the name Ann Coulter would spark attention. Fooled You. HA - HA. Since I have your attention this Monday morning (about 4:45 AM local time as a type this), WAKE UP !!!! The kitten wants you to read to it. The kitty picture this week is courtesy of sweetliberty.

I am late with this week's kitty humor thread. I know, I know. HEY, POOP HAPPENS. Don't believe me, go ask your cat. Here is a new picture I found. 3 cats deciding whether mouse should be baked, roasted, bbq, fried, or just eaten "as is".

Tuesday. Long weekend over. BACK TO WORK. Two pictures this week (one classic and one new). First the classic. Many of you have seen this picture before, but you may not know the story behind it. This police dog unit uses a cat marching in front as a final exam. If the dog approaches the cat (or makes barking sounds), the dog fails the examination and is rejected from police service. Here is the new picture. Cat having some fun with one of the dogs who failed said examination. This is why beagels don't make good police dogs.

PetroniDE is late again with this week's kitty thread. How will the ping list respond and how will said response be compared to when he is late with his cat's dinner? At least the US Postal Service is timely with the mail, except when the mail box is "heavily guarded". This week's picture courtesy of martin_fierro.

Sorry I'm late with this week's kitty caption thread. Was extremely busy today and didn't have a chance to post this during lunch. If you don't like that excuse, please provide me with a good one for the next time thread is late. What does kitty do when we are not home? I think this one went to a local casino. Good news, he must have won money. Bad news, he spent it on booze. BAD KITTY.
