Michigan Rep. John Conyers, a Democrat and the longest-serving member of the House of Representatives, settled a wrongful dismissal complaint in 2015 with a former employee who alleged she was fired because she would not “succumb to [his] sexual advances.” Documents from the complaint obtained by BuzzFeed News include four signed affidavits, three of which are notarized, from former staff members who allege that Conyers, the ranking Democrat on the powerful House Judiciary Committee, repeatedly made sexual advances to female staff that included requests for sexual favors, contacting and transporting other women with whom they believed Conyers was having affairs,...

AmericaÂ’s urban communities need a reformation. So why do they keep electing Democrats whose progressive policies hold them hostage on the plantation of liberal ideology? Every week a prominent Democrat is in the news labeling their opposition as racist as if it is some sort of sport. Do you support school choice that helps struggling black parents endgenerational poverty? Racist. Call out black crime rates that disproportionately claim black victims? Racist. Criticize the welfare state that keeps black people hooked on government handouts? Racist. Are you a Republican? Automatic racist. And if youÂ’re a black conservative like I am, itÂ’s...

Democratic Rep. Frederica Wilson shot back at President Trump moments after he claimed he has proof that she "totally fabricated" what he told the widow of a U.S. soldier who died in Niger. "I don't know what kind of proof he could be talking about," Wilson said Wednesday on CNN. "I'm not the only person that was in the car. And I have proof too. This man is a sick man. He's cold-hearted and he feels no pity or sympathy for anyone."

Democratic Rep. John Lewis said Thursday he sometimes feels like "taking a bullwhip" to people in order to make them care about civil rights. "It doesn’t matter whether they're black, or white, Latino, Asian-American or Native American. When you see something that’s not right, not fair, not just, you have an obligation to do something, to say something. They’re just too darn quiet. I really wanna use some other words sometimes," Lewis told the audience of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Town Hall on Civil Rights in Washington, D.C. [Snip] Activists "just need to be radical" and "extreme" in order...

A secret server is behind the Capitol Police’s decision to ban a former IT aide to Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz from the House network. Now-indicted former congressional IT aide Imran Awan allegedly routed data from numerous House Democrats to a secret server. Police grew suspicious and requested a copy of the server early this year, but they were provided with an elaborate falsified image designed to hide the massive violations. The falsified image is what ultimately triggered their ban from the House network Feb. 2, according to a senior House official with direct knowledge of the investigation. The secret server was connected...

The Congressional Black Caucus will hold a meeting next week to discuss whether to call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump. Following Trump’s response to deadly violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, last month, the CBC chairman, Representative Cedric Richmond of Louisiana, said the 49-member caucus would have a discussion on Trump’s possible impeachment when Congress reconvened after the August recess. Those talks will take place next Wednesday, a CBC staffer confirmed to Newsweek on Thursday. While it was initially anticipated that the discussions would happen at this week’s meeting, relief efforts following Hurricane Harvey and...

And he plans to have the 49-member caucus meet when Congress returns in two weeks to discuss whether to back Democratic-led efforts to impeach Trump. Rep. Fiery Democratic U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters was welcomed like a contemporary rock star when she entered the 2017 Black Girls Rock Awards, as the audience screamed loudly and gave her the night's rowdiest and wildest applause. [Snip] "I want you to know, if it was not for the love and respect shown to me by black women, those right-wing ultra conservatives ... they would have me believe I'm too black, I'm too confrontational, I'm too tough, and I'm too disrespectful of them," she said. "But now I know I'm simply a strong, black woman."

Waters said there were questions about whether Trump and the Russian government colluded to defeat Hillary Clinton, but as she listed her accusations against various members of Trump's Cabinet, Melvin tried to cut in. "You have enough information that leads us to, I think, a credible investigation to find out whether or not there was collusion, and whether or not an oil deal is involved in all of this," Waters said. "You just started that by saying, ‘The question becomes,'" Melvin said. "Should we wait to call for impeachment until we have the answers to that question or some of...

Leaders of the Congressional Black Caucus emerged from a meeting Wednesday at the White House to say they found some areas of agreement with President Trump on helping minority communities but still are not convinced he’s not a racist. CBC Chairman Cedrick L. Richmond said that many of their constituents urged them to not attend the meeting because of their hostility toward the president. But he said the black lawmakers wanted to offer an “opportunity to engage” Mr. Trump, who aggressively courted black voters during the campaign and vowed to make urban neighborhoods a priority for his administration.

U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Houston, said that President Donald Trump's repeated claims he was wire tapped by former President Barack Obama could provide grounds for impeachment if a Monday hearing with the FBI director does not produce evidence to substantiate the allegation. James Comey is scheduled to testify before the U.S. House Intelligence Committee Monday, and Jackson Lee said she expects lawmakers to demand an answer on whether the president had grounds for accusing his predecessor of a crime. The president tweeted on March 4 to his nearly 27 million followers he had "just found out that Obama had...
