One retired FBI agent says Donald Trump’s claims of seeing Muslim celebrations following the attacks on 9-11 are absolutely plausible. Jim Burkett was an assistant special agent in charge with the FBI’s office in Boston during 9-11 and afterward. He says during that time the office received tons of phone calls from people who feared more attacks and others reporting suspicious activity. Many of those calls, said Burkett, came from concerned and angry Americans reporting Muslim’s celebrating over the destruction of the twin towers and damage to the Pentagon. The calls were logged, reports were made and there were “stacks...

We celebrate the red, white, and blue today, because its July 4, Independence Day. If you havent noticed, flags are a big deal in the media lately. Unless youve hidden your head in a bag, or lived under a rock, you couldnt help but see story after story about flags. Our flags design goes back a long way: on June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed the Flag Resolution, which described the American flag as thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation. Later, Congress acted...

Baltimore crowds celebrate tough charges against police Last Baltimore: Residents of impoverished West Baltimore erupted in jubilation and relief Friday after authorities charged six officers in the death in custody of a young African American man. Many had been parading through riot-scarred neighborhoods and chanting the victim`s name as security forces nervously looked on. "Baltimore people, we did it!" shouted 18-year-old John Johnson. "Justice needs to be served!" Cars streamed down West North Avenue in a cacophony of horns, as a man wearing a t-shirt that read "I Bleed Baltimore" thrust his fists into the air and cheered. Rome — Italy celebrates the sesquicentennial of its birth as a unified nation today. On March 17, 1861, while Americans were preoccupied with some serious business of their own, the first Italian Parliament met in Turin and declared Rome the capital of unified Italy. CELEBRATION, Fla. (AP) - Authorities were investigating another death Friday in the town Disney built just days after reporting its first homicide in its 14-year existence. This time it was a man who apparently killed himself after shooting at deputies. Craig Foushee, 52, barricaded himself in a home Thursday for more than 14 hours, according to an Osceola County Sheriff's Office report. He shot at deputies several times, but deputies never returned fire because they were unable to acquire a target and no deputies were injured, authorities said.

A century ago, Labor Day in Bell County was more about brotherhood and less about barbecue. The first Monday in September began 127 years ago as a "working man's holiday," but, in reality, in Bell County, the day emphasized more "working" than "holiday." Far from being the "last day of summer vacation," most Bell Countians anticipated Labor Day for a bountiful cotton harvest. Although the observance is 118 years old in Texas, not until 1909 did Bell County's Labor Day celebrations swell to widespread celebration. Before then, 12-hour shifts were common; worker conditions perilous. Railroads, Temple's major employer, were the...

They knew something their student teacher Rebecca Schaeffer and her husband to be, Spc. Jerome Horrace, didnt. Horrace had returned Saturday for a mid-tour break from Iraq, and Susan Hilliards class of 23 students had adopted his unit, writing letters and sending cards to the 1-28 Intelligence Section at Forward Operating Base Falcon in the Baghdad city limits. The section is officially part of the Black Lions, as the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Infantry Division...
