President Obama referred to the Constitution's ability to help those who had originally been left out to fight their way in, especially when it came to unresolved race and gender rights. Obama likened the Constitutional to a "constant forward movement" in his commencement address to the women-only Barnard College. "What made this document special was that it made it possible for those who were left out to fight their way back in a constant forward movement," Obama said. "We look forward, not back." Obama's campaign slogan, FORWARD, was introduced last month.

Michelle Obama urges NC A&T grads to seek changeBy EMERY P. DALESIO, Associated Press – 3 hours ago GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — The historic action that four North Carolina college students took that led to desegregation at lunch counters more than half a century ago shows what young people can do to change their world for the better, first lady Michelle Obama said during a commencement speech Saturday. Mrs. Obama addressed a crowd of about 15,000, including more than 1,200 graduates of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, one of the state university system's historically black schools. **SNIP** North...

Alyssa Kjellberg still can't believe it. Two years beyond college, her career path has led only to jobs at a greenhouse, a hotel front desk, an aunt's office and a seasonal landscaping company -- all paying less than $12 an hour. After applying for about 100 jobs, the environmental science major even offered "one week of free labor'' last summer to get a foot in the door at the landscaping company. But that job ended with the season, as will the one she's in now. Her dream of becoming a park ranger or environmental educator is drifting away. Kjellberg had...

It wasn't long after the Obama campaign revealed "Forward" as its new reelection slogan this morning that it was accused of stealing from, or perhaps synergizing with, liberal cable-news network MSNBC, whose motto has been "Lean Forward" since October 2010. However, top sources within the Obama campaign* tell Daily Intel that before settling on "Forward," they debated borrowing even more directly from other famous slogans. Among the early options the campaign considered: You’re in good hands with Obama Like a good neighbor, Obama is there Got health insurance? He's g-r-r-r-e-a-t! It's not TV, it's BHO You've come a long way,...

Michelle Obama seems to have tried out a new campaign slogan at today's fundraiser in Las Vegas. "I’m not going to kid you," the first lady said at the fundraiser, according to the pool report. "This journey is going to be long. And it’s going to be hard. And there are going to be plenty of twists and turns along the way. That’s how change always happens in this country. The reality is real change is slow and it never happens all at once." Seems like a winning slogan to me! "Change is slow."

The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism. Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)." "The name Forward carries a special meaning in socialist political terminology. It has been frequently used as a name for socialist, communist and other left-wing newspapers and publications," the online encyclopedia explains. The slogan "Forward!" reflected the conviction of...

The Obama campaign released a seven-minute Web video on Monday highlighting the president’s first-term accomplishments, contrasting them with the challenges he inherited from the prior administration. The video teases a new campaign slogan, "Forward," and while it doesn’t mention Obama’s likely Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, it blames GOP policies for the still-sluggish economy. The ad begins by focusing on events from January 2008 onward, sketching a downward-trending timeline detailing mounting job losses, the foreclosure crisis, the stock market plunge and the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy, with pictures of former President George W. Bush beneath.

Touting the auto bailout at a fundraiser in Detroit, President Obama told supporters we are now seeing what change looks like. "In just three years, because of what you did in 2008, we've begun to see what change looks like. We've begun to see it," Obama said. Transcript below. Obama: When you decide to support a candidate named Barack Hussein Obama, you know the odds are not necessarily in your favor. You didn't need a poll to tell you that wasn't going to be a sure thing. But the point is, you didn't get involved in this campaign just because...

Keith Olbermann’s “Worst Person in the World” segment might be gone from Al Gore’s Current TV, but the name-calling isn’t. On Current TV’s “The Young Turks” on Tuesday, host Cenk Uygur attacked Fox News host Bill O’Reilly for claiming the mission of “the far left” is to silence some. Uygur tied the crusade against the left’s latest boogeyman, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), to an O’Reilly complaint about the tactics used by left-wing groups to “silence” opponents. “Alright, before I go to my panel, let me just level Bill O’Reilly,” Uygur said. “First of all it is your right-wingers...

One of the cyclical trends that materializes with economic declines of this nature is that whoever is in power is typically thrown out with the bath water. Australia is turning center-right and the issues are tax grabs, illegal aliens, and the all too familiar political promise – CHANGE! In US Politics, every election since 1900 has promised change. Of course the only change that takes place is boosting up the political system. In Australia, the Liberal National Party (LNP) is a political party in Queensland, Australia. Defenders of HBO's "Game Change" have fought back against those who criticize the politically charged film as a two-hour attack on Sarah Palin. They claim that unless a person has watched it in its entirety, they cannot judge its content or the people involved with the project. Well, I've seen the entire movie, so don't mind me while I go ahead and judge this piece of high-dollar propaganda. "Game Change" is pretty easy to deconstruct. At its core, it's a left-wing project designed to make one of their most hated political enemies toxic. They used people with an axe to...

President Obama at a fundraiser Thursday night in New York City: "The change we fought for in 2008 hasn't always happen as fast as we would have liked. After all that's happened in Washington, sometimes you look and see the mess and it's tempting, I think, to sometimes say, 'You know what, maybe change isn't possible. Maybe that spirit that we had, maybe we were naive.' I know it's tempting to believe that."

As their economic orgy fades to its inevitable end, the people of Greece find themselves in a country that resembles more of a debtor's prison than a representative democracy. The Greeks have sold their freedom for a mess of pottage. If the United States is not careful, we could soon find ourselves in a very similar situation. Unlike the former Soviet Union, there was no violent Marxist "revolution" in Greece. Freedom was taken from the country's citizens without a single shot being fired. The Greeks squandered their freedom by electing, time and again, politicians who promised an unsustainable socialist utopia....

The creator of the Barack Obama "HOPE" poster pleaded guilty Friday to criminal contempt, saying he made a "terrible decision" in 2009 to destroy some documents and fabricate others in a civil lawsuit pertaining to The Associated Press photograph he relied upon to make the poster. Shepard Fairey entered the plea in federal court to the misdemeanor charge, which carries a maximum potential penalty of up to six months in prison. Sentencing was set for July 16. The criminal case originated after the artist acknowledged he had fabricated information in a lawsuit he brought against the AP in February 2009....

President Obama talks to WFLA-TV, NBC's local news affiliate in Tampa Bay, about his promise to "fundamentally change" Washington. Obama says he hasn't been able to change Washington the way he campaigned for, but he did say he has "made a lot of progress" with government websites. Obama told the local affiliate that he has made using the internet more effective so if someone needs a government service, "they don’t have to navigate through 50 websites, they can go to one website. So on those fronts we’ve done a lot. We’ve made a lot of progress."

CAIRO—Nobel Peace laureate Mohamed ElBaradei on Saturday withdrew his candidacy from Egypt's coming presidential race in protest over the autocratic governance that has persisted under Egypt's post-revolutionary military leadership. Though Mr. ElBaradei wasn't considered among the top contenders for presidential elections scheduled for this spring, his global stature makes his pullout a symbolic blow to the military leadership and its often faltering stewardship of the country's transition to democracy. Mr. ElBaradei's statement on Saturday marks the highest-profile censure of the military's governance since a leading group of generals, the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, or SCAF, assumed power from...

TSA collected $400,000 in spare change left by passengers in airports in 2011By Keith Laing - 01/12/12 02:59 PM ET Airline passengers left more than $400,000 at airport security checkpoints operated by the Transportation Security Administration in 2011. TSA found $409,085.56 in spare change last year that was unclaimed by passengers, according to figures released by the agency. Historically, if no one comes back to get the leftover money, it stays with the TSA. A Florida lawmaker is trying to change that, however: Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.) filed a bill in April of 2009 that would require TSA to transfer...

As soon as Barack Obama uttered those eighteen powerful words in his first full month as President of the United States, he created a new economic standard for his administration. Though he would presumably never be caught voicing similar goals amid the upcoming November election, the grand expectations set by Obama fittingly align with his 2008 campaign’s unattainable levels of “hope” and change.” In fact, under the watch of President Obama, poverty rates have risen to 14.3%, unemployment rates have astonishingly hit 10% (the highest since the 1980’s), and the average number of weeks unemployed has doubled since January 2009,...

The Ohio General Assembly approved a measure to combine the two scheduled 2012 primaries into a single date, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Yesterday House Bill 369 repealed the change to two primaries which would have pushed Ohio's 2012 Presidential primary into June. The change from the traditional "Super Tuesday" date was deemed necessary because the new political redistricting map was not yet approved. Governor John Kasich signed the bill into law, making March 6 officially the 2012 primary date, according to the Dayton Daily News.

If President Obama reaches a 50 percent approval rating by March, he’ll be in good shape for re-election, a panel of pollsters and election observers said today. Since the middle of July, the weekly average of Obama’s approval rating has been between 40 and 43 percent, according to Gallup, which organized the panel for the media. The pollsters pointed to two recent presidents who didn’t earn a second term to make the case for the importance of a 50-percent threshold: Just before Election Day, George H.W. Bush had a 34 percent rating, and Jimmy Carter was at 37 percent. Victors,...

In December of 2009, a guest on an Oprah Winfrey Christmas special was asked to grade the Obama administration’s performance at roughly the one-year mark. Without hesitation, the guest responded, “Good, solid B-plus.” The response may have seemed disingenuous to viewers with an awareness that the president’s $800 billion stimulus had failed to keep the unemployment rate below 8% as promised or that Congress was locked in partisan gridlock despite Obama’s promise to usher in an era of post-partisanship inside the Beltway. Then again, considering the source of that grade—Obama—the inflated self-assessment was hardly surprising. Nor should it come as...

Occupy Wall Street is an un-American movement generated by an un-American depiction of our country. In 2008, the leaders of the Democratic Party painted the United States as a “decaying, racist, capitalist realm,” unable to provide medical care for the poor, to rebuild her “crumbling schools,” or to replace the “shuttered mills that once provided a decent life for men and women of every race.”

Depopulation of Americas may have cooled climate MINNEAPOLIS — By sailing to the New World, Christopher Columbus and the other explorers who followed may have set off a chain of events that cooled Europe’s climate for centuries. The European conquest of the Americas decimated the people living there, leaving large areas of cleared land untended. Trees that filled in this territory pulled billions of tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, diminishing the heat-trapping capacity of the atmosphere and cooling climate, says Richard Nevle, a geochemist at Stanford University. “We have a massive reforestation event that’s sequestering carbon … coincident...

"The Senate rule change we made last week has been inaccurately described, including by Marc A. Thiessen on this page,...

Every Thursday, the financial markets wait with bated breath for the weekly jobless claims report. The pundits claim any number below 400,000 is reason for optimism. If the number is above 400,000, the analysts say just wait until next week. It’s not that 400,000 people seeking first time unemployment checks is somehow a mystical line in the sand, it’s just the accepted number for economic improvement. In addition to the magical Thursday number are the always expected words “revised from an initial estimate.” Somehow, the BLS always understates the initial number and then always revises it upward. Is it even...
