  • Surge in child immigrants stresses support network

McALLEN, Texas (AP) - An unprecedented surge of children caught trudging through South Texas scrublands or crossing at border ports of entry without their families has sent government and nonprofit agencies scrambling to expand their shelter, legal representation and reunification services. On any given day this year, the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement has been caring for more than 2,100 unaccompanied child immigrants. The influx came to light last week when 100 kids were taken to Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio for temporary housing. It was the first time the government has turned to the Defense Department -...
  • Another side of Romney

4/30/12 confirmed this as true... \ Sometimes, this facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle. In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective...

April 27, 2012 ( - When it comes to startling statistics, the hidden world of pornography consumption has them in spades. For example, every second, $3,075.64 is being spent on porn, while 28,258 Internet users are viewing it. As of 2006 Big Porn was more lucrative than Google, Apple, Amazon, Ebay, Yahoo!, and Netflix combined. But perhaps the most startling of all is the age demographic: the largest group of Internet pornography consumers is between 17 and 12 years old. Therapists now say we’re only beginning to scratch the surface of the havoc wreaked on this “Generation XXX” as it...

I just love this one. Damn .. I wish there had been security cameras to record this for prosperity. The locale is Jacksonville, North Carolina. Now if you know Jacksonville, NC, you will know that this is not the place you want to screw around with people you aren’t all that familiar with. They train throat slitters there. Not the bad kind … the good kind. The kind that wear the uniforms of the U.S. Marine Corps (or, as Obama would pronounce it, “corpse”) and the U.S. Army. So here we have these two pretty perps, Maurice and Diego ---...
  • Heads Of Three Stooges Grace Fallen NJ Firefighter’s Headstone

    04/30/2012 4:33:58 AM PDT · by lowbridge · 15 replies
At Hillside Cemetery in Metuchen —straight ahead after the entrance and where the driveway splits —is the headstone for James Bechtold, a 50-year-old Metuchen firefighter who tragically died five years ago. “I think his headstone speaks volumes for him,” Metuchen fire chief Robert Donnan, an old friend of Bechtold’s, told WCBS 880′s Levon Putney. What makes his headstone so unique and hard to miss, you ask? The stone heads of Larry, Curly and Moe are sticking up from it, and it reads, “Laugh. Don’t weep.”

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes said on Sunday he would not have made the latest James Bond film "Skyfall" without Daniel Craig playing the MI6 agent because of the complexity the British actor has brought to the character. Mendes, who won an Academy Award for directing "American Beauty" in 1999, has depicted troubled men with ordinary lives -a far cry from 007, the ultimate action hero.

It will never cease to amaze me how warm wool is. Last night it got down in the 40s (60 degrees inside my house) after a warm spell that was in the 90s. After getting used to the warmer temps 60 felt very cold while lounging around in shorts and Tshirt, so rather than crank up the furnace, I just put on a wool sweater and wool socks and all was well, even though I was wearing shorts. Then at bedtime, I shed the sweater and I slept under a heavy wool blanket. I have read the theory about wool's...

A social worker who recently lost her husband investigates the strange Wadsworth family. The Wadsworths might not seem too unusual to hear about them at first - consisting of the mother, two grown daughters and the diaper-clad, bottle-sucking baby. The problem is, the baby is twenty-one years old.

Hannah Overton was charged with capital murder, found guilty and handed down a life sentence. This week the 35-year-old was back in a Texas courthouse to try and get her capital murder conviction overturned and convince a judge she did not intentionally poison the four-year-old but that he did it to himself. The defense argued that Andrew had Pica an eating disorder characterized by an obsessive appetite. Overton and her husband told ABC's 20/20 that the boy would eat anything he could get his hands on. The day he collapsed in their home, Andrew was found in the pantry by...

Lampreys from Great Lakes destined for queen's pie DETROIT — A few unwanted, invasive sea lampreys from the Great Lakes have been shipped to England for use in a traditional pie for Queen Elizabeth II. The Detroit Free Press reports ( the City of Gloucester, which has given the pie as a gift to the monarch since the Middle Ages, requested the eel-like creatures from the Great Lakes Fishery Commission because they're a protected species in England. The pie is for June's Diamond Jubilee, the 60th anniversary of the queen's ascent to the throne. Commission spokesman Marc Gaden shipped 2...

World’s deadliest golf course boasts land mines and man-bear-pigs Along the DMZ, golf is not a sport for the faint of heart. The golf course at Camp Bonifas, just south of the Korean demilitarized zone, boasts just one hole, but what it lacks in quantity it more than makes up for in hazards. Live land mines line the course, and bizarre animals stumble out from the woods. Formerly Camp Kitty Hawk, United Nations Command post Camp Bonifas was renamed in 1986 to honor Captain Arthur G. Bonifas, who had been axe murdered in 1976 during a conflict with North Korea...
