  • Surge in child immigrants stresses support network

    04/30/2012 12:54:03 PM PDT · by traumer · 9 replies
McALLEN, Texas (AP) - An unprecedented surge of children caught trudging through South Texas scrublands or crossing at border ports of entry without their families has sent government and nonprofit agencies scrambling to expand their shelter, legal representation and reunification services. On any given day this year, the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement has been caring for more than 2,100 unaccompanied child immigrants. The influx came to light last week when 100 kids were taken to Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio for temporary housing. It was the first time the government has turned to the Defense Department -...

Snopes.com confirmed this as true... \http://www.snopes.com/politics/romney/search.asp Sometimes, this facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle. In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective...

April 27, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - When it comes to startling statistics, the hidden world of pornography consumption has them in spades. For example, every second, $3,075.64 is being spent on porn, while 28,258 Internet users are viewing it. As of 2006 Big Porn was more lucrative than Google, Apple, Amazon, Ebay, Yahoo!, and Netflix combined. But perhaps the most startling of all is the age demographic: the largest group of Internet pornography consumers is between 17 and 12 years old. Therapists now say we’re only beginning to scratch the surface of the havoc wreaked on this “Generation XXX” as it...

At Hillside Cemetery in Metuchen —straight ahead after the entrance and where the driveway splits —is the headstone for James Bechtold, a 50-year-old Metuchen firefighter who tragically died five years ago. “I think his headstone speaks volumes for him,” Metuchen fire chief Robert Donnan, an old friend of Bechtold’s, told WCBS 880′s Levon Putney. What makes his headstone so unique and hard to miss, you ask? The stone heads of Larry, Curly and Moe are sticking up from it, and it reads, “Laugh. Don’t weep.”

Fracking, a slang term for hydraulic fracturing, is a mining procedure that fractures rocks by injecting fluids and sand into cracks to force them apart, making it easier to extract oil and natural gas. Some say it can pollute drinking water and farm lands and even lead to earthquakes. But Robert W. Chase, professor and chairman of the Dept. of Petroleum Engineering and Geology at Marietta College (Ohio), believes otherwise. In fact, he took the time to shed some light on recent myths about fracking that have sprung up. Myth No. 1: Fracking could contaminate aquifers that supply drinking water....

Abortion in the United States has claimed the lives of over 54 million babies since its legalization in 1973 – this we know. It has stolen grandchildren; future friends; future spouses; and future doctors, humanitarians, and congresswomen. It’s an American tragedy, and we are witnessing the beginning stages of its long-awaited demise. Unfortunately, in addition to stealing the lives of innocent children, abortion has caused a great deal of damage to American culture. 1. Children Became a Curse If there is anything that population control committees and pro-aborts have succeeded at, it is convincing most of America that children are...

Dr. Mark I. Evans is known around the world for his work in genetics, prenatal screening and diagnosis, and the selective reduction of pregnancies. Of course, “selective reduction” is code for the choosing and killing of one or more babies in a multiple pregnancy. You don’t reduce children – you kill them. But Dr. Evans prefers to refer to this procedure as “pregnancy management.” He admits that, in the first reduction he performed, he “stabbed two of the fetuses with a needle.” Today, the general technique – and the one used by Dr. Evans – is plunging a needle filled...

Invisible dark matter particles may regularly pass through our bodies, and dozens to thousands of these particles may be colliding with atoms inside us every year, according to a new calculation. However, radiation from these impacts is unlikely to cause cancer, investigators added. Dark matter is one of the greatest scientific mysteries of our time — an invisible substance thought to make up five-sixths of all matter in the universe. The shrimp are known to eat their smaller cousins, and sightings of the massive crustaceans have gone up tenfold in the last year, biologists say. The black-and-white-striped shrimp can grow 13 inches long and weigh a quarter-pound, compared to eight inches and a bit over an ounce for domestic white, brown and pink shrimp.

But a new GBTV Documentary, “Rumors of War III: Target U.S.” shatters this claim. It makes the case that not only has the threat from radical Islam endured– it is in fact growing and more imminent with each passing...

A likely apocryphal story winds through the community changing in detail though not in punch line. In one telling, the situation occurs in the Germany of 1945 when Soviets and the US were allies and it had to do with a Tokarev. In another, a Russian defector was lecturing at the Commanding General War and Staff College, Ft Leavenworth. Finally, it was another Soviet absconder, this one at Ft.
