After being hit by moose head, restaurant patron files lawsuit against Scandinavian restaurant

NEW YORK -- A restaurant-goer says she was struck by the decor at a Manhattan restaurant -- but not in a visual way. Raina Kumra says in a negligence lawsuit filed last week that a stuffed moose head plummeted off a wall and onto her head at the Scandinavian-themed White Slab Palace on Oct. 4. She says she suffered a concussion and other injuries after being hit by the 150-pound moose head, adorned with 3-foot-wide antlers.

Klobuchar, Franken want Senate to extend jobless, COBRA benefits

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken today urged the Senate to pass an extension of unemployment and COBRA benefits before the end of the year, citing the 10 percent unemployment rate and the annual rise in heating bills coming this winter. The Minnesota Democrats joined 22 other senators who signed a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, asking for a vote on the issue by Dec. 31. A 65 percent subsidy of premium costs for those with COBRA benefits, authorized by the stimulus bill, is set to expire at the end of the year.

After Aging 15 Years, America’s Oldest Cheddar Goes on Sale

What may be the oldest and priciest cheddar in America was released Friday by a world champion Mineral Point cheese maker, just in time for holiday entertaining and gift-giving. It's the single malt scotch of cheddar.Hook's 15-year-old cheddar, which made its debut Friday at Larry's Market in Brown Deer for $50 a pound, will be available in tony Beverly Hills starting next week. Older cheddars may exist, but if they do, they're the stuff of private stashes in cheese maker cellars - not available to the general public, said John Umhoefer, executive director of the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, which...

Moose first victim of armed border guards [Canada]

OTTAWA — Canada’s newly armed border guards have claimed their first victim: a hapless moose. The creature was felled by the duty sidearm of a border officer in late August, newly disclosed documents show. The incident — marking the first time a border-guard sidearm has been discharged on duty — occurred about 25 kilometres west of Creston, B.C., as an unidentified intelligence officer with the Canada Border Services Agency was driving on official business to Nelson, B.C. The officer was behind an RCMP vehicle when both drivers spotted an injured moose struggling in the westbound lane of Highway 3. The...

POTATO AND CHEESE SOUP

A few simple ingredients make a sumptuous soup. Be sure to use a high-quality cheddar; it's crucial to the dish's flavor. Choose a yellow cheese for the richest color. For a chunkier soup, skip the pureeing and just break up some of the potato with a spoon.

Anyone else having difficulty displaying foxnew.com/politics articles using Firefox,Safari or Camino? All of these browsers use the Google tool to block reported attack sites and web forgeries. Turning off that "feature" allows me to display the text of the article after relaunching the browser. Turning that "feature" on prevents the text from being displayed. Only the header is displayed. This has been happening for 3 weeks and I'm slowly testing other browsers. It would help if others would do the same. It would be great to record the browser name, version, and web page link so we can try to...

Style Inspiration

For many people choosing what to wear in the morning is not a chore but an art form, where inspiration is turned into reality and a wearable outfit. Putting together the right outfit is also great fun, my favourite part is getting the inspiration. There are so many places that you can get ideas for what to wear including nature, historical dress, architecture and cultural themes. I also love to get ideas from what other people are wearing including celebrities and normal everyday people then combining these ideas to create my own unique style. Here are some of my favourite...

The Unholy Alliance of Michelle Malkin and Michael Gaynor

always say I love numbers because numbers don't lie. I recently scanned Michelle Malkin's site, Michael Gaynor's site, and Anita Moncrief's site, and what I discovered is rather illuminating. For instance, on Michelle Malkin's site, Anita Moncrief is mentioned in more pieces (25-19) than Wade Rathke. In other words, if you relied primarily on Michelle Malkin's site for your news, you'd think that Anita Moncrief is more important to the ACORN story than the long time CEO of the group, Wade Rathke. Wade Rathke is known by almost all that follow ACORN whereas Moncrief is relatively unknown by most that...

Hes done it again! Obama is UNBEATABLE! He beat Jim Thompson in a stunning upset in the Rose Garden on Friday morning, though no one actually saw Thompson, and there have been no confirmed sightings of him on either the White House grounds or anywhere in Washington D.C. None the less the President was shown holding his egg above his head in victory, a large grin upon his face. However, this did not prevent President from graciously thanking Mr. Thompson for his sportsmanship and for the ribald jokes told while on the playing field. "So, Jim, did that balloon popping...

The show, which was written and acted by John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Graham Chapman, first aired on October 5, 1969 and ran for a total of 45 episodes. It was the Pythons' surreal and satirical humour which shot them to global fame in the 1970s, as they broke new ground in what was acceptable in terms...

Clunker program spent, dealers to get government cheese

News fairly unbalanced. We report. You decipher. Uncle Sam's Cash-for-Clunkers program has already spent its allotted $3 billion, making it by government standards an instant success, and forcing Democrats look for alternative ways to compensate auto retailers for the deeply-discounted deals they've made on some 457,000 vehicles. Many car dealers have yet to receive a nickel from the federal government after waving goodbye to dozens of customers who drove off of their lots in new cars marked down by up to $4,500. However, President Barack Obama today told dealers not to "worry about reimbursement because if cash runs out, we...

MILAN - All that is golden in bank Credito Emiliano's temperature-controlled vault is not precious metal, but something equally prized in Italy: aging Parmesan cheese. Row upon row of 85-pound wheels of straw-colored Parmesan cheese, stacked some 33 feet high at a secure warehouse, age for as many as two years under the care of bank employees trained in the centuries-old art of Parmesan making. The program allows Parmesan producers to pump cash into their business by using their product as collateral while it is otherwise sitting on a shelf for the long aging process. While the mechanism was not...

Forty percent of the messages on Twitter are "pointless babble" along the lines of "I am eating a sandwich now," according to a study conducted by a US market research firm. Pear Analytics, based in San Antonio, Texas, said that it randomly sampled 2,000 messages from the public stream of Twitter and separated them into six categories. The categories were: news, spam, self-promotion, pointless babble, conversational and pass-along value. Pear said "pointless babble" accounted for 811 "tweets" or 40.55 percent of the total number of messages sampled.
Federal government offers help to local dairy farmers (with a twist)

ELKHART COUNTY — Dairy farmers across the country are being milked dry by rising production costs and falling prices. On Friday, the federal government unveiled a new plan aimed at providing "immediate relief." But, will it work? And, what will it mean for you at the grocery store? The U.S. Department of Agriculture plan will raise the price paid at commodity markets for milk and cheddar cheese. Administrators call it a "dairy price support program." Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack says it will help the dairy industry weather "one of it's worst crises in decades." The price paid by dairy...

Beer and Cheese 101 - Is the right pairing perfect?

Just like 50 is the new 40, beer is the new wine. Pair it with all types of foods, describing them sometimes in manners complex, sometimes simply. Both fermented and crafted by artisans in their own right, beer and cheese have walked hand in hand for centuries. Breweries and dairies historically used similar equipment in different seasons to be most efficient. Combine them classically. Good cheese is a perfect partner for a good beer. Seek the best of both worlds; it’s well worth it. Cheap cheese and cheap beer can ruin an otherwise-great day. How to pair beer and cheese?...
