One of the key principles of the Christian faith is that all human lives are valuable because they are created in the image of God, and therefore killing an innocent human being is a grave evil. However, a few Christians stray from these teachings and argue that women should have a “right” to abort their unborn child’s life. Neichelle Guidry Jones, a United Church of Christ pastor from Chicago, is one of them. Last week, she praised and prayed for Planned Parenthood as it celebrated its 100th anniversary, Charisma News reports. “We celebrate today that on Oct. 16, 1916, Margaret...
  • Republicans in This Legislature Boycotted the Daily Prayer After a Minister Prayed for Abortion

Kentucky pro-life lawmakers refused to attend the opening of the state General Assembly last week because a pastor began the meeting by praying for abortions. The Rev. Lauren Mayfield, pastor of the Lynhurst United Church of Christ in Louisville, Kentucky, was a guest of pro-abortion state Rep. Joni Jenkins, D-Shively, a member of the church, according to the Daily Independent. During the opening prayer on Tuesday, Feb. 23, Mayfield prayed for “these legislators [to] work toward preserving the dignity of women in the quest for reproductive justice,” the report states. She also prayed for vision, peace and justice and asked...

How2BecomeAChristian TV ^ | 12/20/15 | Damon Whitsell I do not know how to post a video here, if someone will tell me I will post the video here. Here is my text intro to the video on the site. Tonight I did my first apologetics TV show. It turned out good. I interviewed ex-Church of Christ member Tyler Clay Morgan on how he was an atheist, got saved in a CoC church, got abused and then became a Lutheran and some about his pro wrestling career. Tyler did a great job and was very personable and I thank him for coming on the show and helping...

  • CHURCH OF CHRIST: Preaching a Plan of Salvation instead of the Man Jesus Christ

    09/28/2015 12:01:53 PM PDT · by damonw · 28 replies
“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” (Romans 5:19) I find that when many Church of Christ’ers talk about salvation or being saved, they do not even use or have the correct definition of save, saved or salvation in mind. The terms in Hebrew, Greek and English predominantly means to deliver, to rescue from harm or danger, to deliver from sin, to preserve and protect. These actions come from outside of us. They are not something we do. We are merely recipients. Webster’s defines salvation as...

There is the commonly heard CoC 5 step plan of salvation which is “Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess, and Baptism“. But this is by no means the standard CoC plan of salvation. Many CoCers include living a faithful christian life, growing in the faith or continuing in the way of Jesus as a 6th step. And Walter Scott originally had 6 steps in his plan of salvation which he said was “Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Remission of Sins, Gift of the Holy Spirit and Eternal Life”. But before he had 6 steps Scott only had 3 steps in his plan and they...
  • CHURCH OF CHRIST: A Lesson on The Trump Card Fallacy and The Obvious Fallacy

    09/28/2015 11:51:11 AM PDT · by damonw · 1 replies
If you have ever debated with hard-line Church of Christ members you are probably aware that many of them will resort to using some very fallacious tactics in defending their truth claims. One ex-Church of Christ writer from the site correctly claims… The Church of Christ denomination uses four main tactics in debating their pet doctrines. These tactics are generally used by all cultic groups. They are: 1. Change the subject 2. Take scripture out of context 3. Straw man arguments 4. Ad hominem attacks (attacking you instead of the issue) The way to counter these tactics is very...

To that simultaneous series of debates, this response was posted by a commenter named Ex-CoC, they said,,,, “This is the most helpful information I have come across, I am a former coc, and have had doubts and confusion on the teachings. • Church of Christ verses Baptist Debate: IS FAITH A SYNECDOCHE?

I am posting only an excerpt here because this written debate is pretty long. Read the excerpts to find out what a Synecdoche is if you do not already know. I am the baptist in the debate and think I won hands down because the CoC guy could not even prove that verbs can be synecdoches, but I did finish weakly. I am posting this to FR because in my research I found this to be the only debate on the subject even though the argument is often used by more advanced CoC debaters. Here is opening clips of my...

Why Are There So Many Churches ANSWERED ^ | 08/24/15 | Damon Whitsell
When someone ask the question WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CHURCHES they usually are not interested in seeking an honest answer to the question. But rather they ask the question to go on to say (1) Christianity is divided. (2) God wants unity in His church not division (3) and their group is the Only True Christian Church. This is the case with the video above and the website that is produced by the hardline Church of Christ (CoC) organization World Video Bible School. This site seeks to examine that video and it’s exclusive claims and inferences in detail....
  • United Church of Christ minister: Planned Parenthood Does “Sacred Work” of “Love” and “Justice”

Tom Davis, who is an ordained minister with the United Church of Christ and a chaplain and professor at Skidmore College: “I contend that Planned Parenthood is engaged in a form of sacred work, the work, that is, of securing reproductive justice for women… Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is thoroughly secular. But when it comes to the issue of sacred work, that doesn’t matter. The scripture is clear about one thing: sacred work, the work of justice, is sacred no matter who does it.… In the biblical view, sacred work is love, and in practical social realities, sacred...

Church of Christ 1293. Is not the "Church of Christ" the only true name for a Church mentioned in the Bible? No. Christ described His Church in very many significant ways—all of which apply to the Catholic Church, and the Catholic Church only.1294. The "Church of Christ" was established on the Day of Pentecost. The true Church of Christ commenced then, but not what are called the Protestant "Churches of Christ." These can be traced back to a Rev. Alexander Campbell, who was born in 1788, and who was originally a Presbyterian. As Mr. Campbell grew up, he pressed...

More than 1.5 million people converged on the Philippine capital on Monday for a powerful Christian sect's evangelical event, causing traffic chaos that shut down large parts of the megacity. The gathering of the secretive and politically influential Iglesia ni Cristo (Church of Christ) in the historic district of Manila forced all schools and some government offices to close. See your ad here The Supreme Court, as well as some basketball games in the highly popular college league, were also suspended, while Manila's governing authority urged private employers to give their staff a paid day off to avoid the traffic....

WHY THE CHURCH OF CHRIST DOES NOT OBSERVE CHRISTMAS Some years ago I received a letter from a listener to the weekly radio program who asked me to explain why the church of Christ does not observe Christmas. This sermon is the answer I gave to that question. I realize that there are many people in the world who regard members of the church of Christ as being very narrow-minded in our refusal to join with the denominational world in the observance of that holiday which was formerly known as Christ Mass Day, but is now generally abbreviated to Christmas...
  • Are There Devout Christians In {non Church of Christ} Denominations?

Are There Devout Christians In Denominations?  John 10:16      Sadly, many in our brotherhood would answer “yes” to this question.  Denominations have for years taught that it does not matter what church you attend, as long as a person is sincere and honest.  Many in the Lord’s church have swallowed this idea.  They cry long and hard that there are sincere, devout Christians in any given denomination.  It is no wonder, then, that many congregations of the Lord’s church have joined hands with denominational churches to promote or to participate in any number of things.  Of course, they consider their...

A Filipino church called Iglesia Ni Cristo, or Church of Christ, is the buyer of 59 parcels of land in Scenic, paying $700,000 for the properties, Pennington County records show. What the church plans to do with the nearly empty Old West town on the edge of the Badlands remains a mystery. The church hasn’t said anything about its plans for the property, and calls seeking comment from church offices were not returned. Pennington County Sheriff Kevin Thom and county Planning Director Dan Jennissen each said their offices have had no contact from the church. A variety of sources describe...

He wanted an apology to Emma Smith's family. "What?!" Brigham Young's descendants said, according to Mary Ellen Elggren. "What are they talking about?" In 2007, Elggren was president-elect of the Brigham Young Family Association when she first heard that Michael Kennedy, president of the Joseph Smith Jr. Family Organization, wanted an apology. "I was totally puzzled over this," Elggren said. Kennedy, however, was not puzzled. He was baptized as a Mormon in 1973 -- the first male descendant of Joseph and Emma Smith to join the LDS Church and be ordained an elder. He knew firsthand the prejudices that kept...

For nearly three decades the Republican party has built its election victories in the United States on the power of the Christian Right. But now it is facing the prospect of a "God void" by selecting a presidential candidate who is not a churchgoer. In a recent Gallup poll, 55 per cent of Americans said they went to church at least once a month. Neither the thrice-married Rudy Giuliani nor the twice-married Fred Thompson, the two front-runners for the party's nomination, go to church regularly. John McCain, also a divorcé, once described evangelical leaders as "agents of intolerance". All have...
