Aiken announced Thursday that he plans on backing Vice President Joe Biden... ....“I’ll get in a leaky boat going in the right direction before I’ll get on a strong boat going in the wrong direction,” the former “American Idol” contestant said. “But I really want a strong boat next year on the Democratic side, and I think Joe Biden is a better candidate."

Some Los Angeles donors who attended a Sept. 30 fundraiser for Clay Aiken in Los Angeles feel “duped” after the announcement, just hours after he lost his race for a North Carolina congressional seat, that Esquire Network had been producing a “docu-series” about his campaign. According to Karen Ocamb of FrontiersLA, donors are asking that footage of the event not be included in the documentary. Clay Aiken has learned that you don't have to actually be a winner to come out ahead. He learned that lesson when he came in second on "American Idol" and was launched into fame while the actual winner of that contest is pretty much forgotten. He seems to have applied that lesson to his recent congressional campaign as well. Aiken lost in a landslide but not to worry, he is about to star in a TV reality show about that campaign. Unfortunately for Clay, some of the good footage of him hanging out with celebrity donors at a September 30...

Aiken, 35, won the Democratic nomination after his opponent in the race died suddenly during the primary campaign. If the Idol alum had won, he would have been the first openly gay congressman elected in the South.

“American Idol” runner-up Clay Aiken was declared the winner of his tight House Democratic primary in North Carolina on Tuesday, a day after his opponent suddenly died. Aiken and Keith Crisco had been vying for the Democratic nomination to take on Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) She is favored to keep the seat. Aiken was leading Crisco by fewer than 400 votes, and both candidates had been hovering around the 40-percent mark needed to avoid a runoff. The 71-year-old Crisco died Monday after suffering from injuries from a fall. Aiken’s team said they’d received word he’d been planning to concede Tuesday.

He’s hoping to take on (and take down) current GOP Representative Renee Ellmers. While Aiken’s success could allow him to largely self-fund the effort, politics still requires you to get out there and do some fundraising, pressing the flesh with the local donors and power brokers.
