There is an absence of justice in our country. It is keenly felt in African American, Latino and other communities, where racial profiling has resulted in higher arrest rates, convictions and longer sentencing than caucasian offenders. We have criminalized mental illness and substance abuse; our largest treatment centers are the jails and prisons. After arrest, many people are retained without bail to await trial and chances for rehabilitation diminish as the “institution-mentality” takes root. While incarcerated, men and women are treated like animals and bullying is a survival strategy. This is the setting in which the lack of indictment in...

Today is National Coffee Day. Many outlets such as Dunkin' Donuts, Mickey Ds, and others are offering free coffee as a result. And since it is National Coffee Day your humble correspondent, a devout caffeine addict from way back, decided to Google search on all things coffee. What I discovered was something long forgotten by myself and everybody else...assuming they even remembered it in the first place. I am referring to the Coffee Party. Although the Coffee Party is completely gone with the exception of some strange clingers as we shall see, it was kicked off with tremdous hype in...

After supposed RINO Thad Cochran relied in part on African-American voters to defeat Tea Party favorite Chris McDaniel and win the Mississippi GOP’s nomination to the Senate, FreedomWorks president Matt Kibbe was very upset. Kibbe was so angry, in fact, that he was moved to petulantly declare, “If the only way the K Street wing of the GOP establishment can win is by courting Democrats to vote in GOP primaries then we’ve already won.” This Black Knight-like declaration of victory following conspicuous defeat was widely mocked as yet another example of the Tea Party’s preference to curate reality.

I have been trying my best to pay attention to everything happening in the United States and as a political science major one would assume that I would have a great grasp the ebb and flow of the current American Climate. My honest answer when asked has been a resounding- it's confusing. There is something bigger stirring the pot and many people are conflicted. There are people that are so far Right politically that they are almost left and some people that are so far Left that they should just handcuff their own arms-these people are begging for imprisonment. The Left’s Pathetic Tea Party The Occupy Wall Street movement is a juvenile rabble. In the Occupy Wall Street movement, the Left thinks it might have found its own tea party. MoveOn.org and some unions have embraced the protesters. The left-wing Campaign for America’s Future is featuring them at its conference devoted to reinvigorating progressivism. Liberal opinion-makers have celebrated them — Washington Post columnist E. J. Dionne welcomes their spirit, and New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof compares them, astonishingly enough, to the demonstrators at Egypt’s Tahrir Square. This is a sign either of desperation to find anyone on the...

Why hasn’t there been a Tea Party on the left? And can President Obama and the American left develop a functional relationship? That those two questions are not asked very often is a sign of how much of the nation’s political energy has been monopolized by the right from the beginning of Obama’s term. This has skewed media coverage of almost every issue, created the impression that the president is far more liberal than he is, and turned the nation’s agenda away from progressive reform. A quiet left has also been very bad for political moderates. The entire political agenda...

No, it’s not a joke and while some people might be up in arms over it, I think it’s some of the best news for the Tea Party agenda and it’s coming right from the enemy camp. Because liberals just know how to keep it classy, they’ve decided their campaign against the Tea Party movement will be to launch a new logo with “F*ck Tea” as it’s catchy little slogan. In case you hadn't noticed, and you probably haven't, the Coffee Party which was hyped in the mainstream media as the liberal alternative to the Tea Party movement has pretty much faded away. A recent Washington Post article about another liberal group response to the Tea Parties, "One Nation," didn't even mention the name "Coffee Party." About 40 people showed up for the meeting at a Panera Bread restaurant, where organizer George Papison had booked a small room in expectation of a dozen or fewer. The meeting was one of hundreds planned for today across the nation by Coffee Party U.S.A., a group that sprang from Facebook rantings against the tea party movement by filmmaker and Obama supporter Annabel...

From the web (anonymous): “Tea Party”: * Individuals have Inalienable Rights that NO GOVERNMENT may infringe upon without their consent. A Right is a restriction on Government Power * That the Constitution is only Valid when taken as an expression of that Consent, and therefore its ORIGINAL MEANING as understood by the people is paramount in determining the laws under which we live. It was a contract between the people to form a government, with limited powers, with all other powers being reserved to the people or to the States. A process for Amendment was provided for changes to the...

Washington (CNN) -- The new Coffee Party movement deemed its official kickoff Saturday a "huge success," with dozens of talks held at coast-to-coast coffee shops as members came together to discuss the issues most important to them. Billed by many as an answer to the conservative Tea Party movement, the Coffee Party was born on Facebook just six weeks ago. While the group has become an instant hit online -- it boasts more than 141,000 Facebook fans as of Saturday -- gauging the success of this weekend's coffee meetups was predicted to be an indicator of the... --snip-- Coffee Party...

While traveling by air across the country last week, I had occasion to work in an airport lounge which had CNN on the television. During a little more than an hour, the announcer screened videos of two pro-Democratic ads and ran a story on the so-called coffee party movement, formed by a few liberals sympathetic to Democratic policies. It would be interesting to know how much coverage CNN has given to the tea party movement, which has brought something on the order of 1 million people into its gatherings over the past year; more than the coffee party group, I...

What is it that the left and the Old Media said about the Tea Party movement? Didn't they say it was not really filled with regular folks and didn't they say it was not really a grass roots level effort because some nefarious "top-down" Republican groups were secretly behind the whole thing? That's what Paul Krugman said in The New York Times. So did Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi -- after someone taught her was "astroturf" even was, that is. In fact, the whole left-wing Old Media establishment attacked the tea party movement as some fake, manufactured thing...

New Groups Emerge to Fill Void After Downfall of Coffee Party Hoping to gather citizens upset and saddened by the sudden failure of the new Coffee Party, ACORN has formed new ”Party” groups to harness that energy. “We feel that by splitting our people into multiple organizations we can prevent the facists on the right from attacking and defeating us in one blow” said current ACORN leader Bertha Lewis. Bertha was kind enough to give knifework.net the scoop on these new groups in the hope that the publicity would gather people to the cause. She added that radaronline was...

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A citizen activist group antagonistic to the political goals of the Tea Party movement has nonetheless indicated a willingness to converse. In what may be characterized as “the sincerest form of flattery,” video documentarian Annabel Park weeks ago created the “Coffee Party Movement.” Despite its relatively brief existence, it has already garnered significant media attention, most notably in recent articles by the New York Times and Washington Post. Over the weekend, an open letter was addressed to Park by a member of the Tea Party movement (this writer) welcoming “civility and inclusiveness in political discourse,” a nod...

Surprise! Surprise! It turns out that the "grassroots" organizer of the "progressive alternative" to the Tea Parties, the Coffee Party, has been exposed as an Obama political operative. If you had read the profiles of the Coffee Party founder Annabel Park (photo) in the Washington Post or New York Times you wouldn't have had a hint as to her extensive political activity in the 2008 Obama campaign. So how did William A. Jacobson of Le-gal In-sur-rec-tion discover this "deep secret" that the two major newspapers with their vast resources were unable to find? Well, it required the "tremendous effort" of...

Washington Post came out today in support of the Coffee Party, a leftist organization that is supposed to be a response to the Tea Party. According to the article, the founder is Annabel Park. Of course it took only five minutes of google searching to expoose the Astroturf here. According to a youtube account, Park is also associated with Asian Americans for Obama. Below is a video of Parks interviewing Kal Penn, an actor who left the TV show House to work for Obama. ...

I’ve read the WaPo profile, looked at their website, watched the two videos below, and I still don’t quite get it. They’re claiming, essentially, to be nonpartisan and less interested in pushing particular policies than in “dialogue” and “cooperation” for their own sake. Which, given the realities in the Senate, is a very thinly veiled way of calling for fewer filibusters and more Democratic — sorry, I mean bipartisan — legislation. Here’s their statement of principles, for what it’s worth; assuming they stick around, it’ll be fun to watch how this changes once the GOP has a majority in both...
