GOP Resurgence Predicted Published On 9/30/2008 1:24:04 AM By ERIC P NEWCOMER Contributing Writer The Massachusetts Republican party is “alive and well” and “poised to take the governorship in two years,” said former Massachusetts Governor A. Paul Cellucci last night while speaking for a joint event held by the Harvard Republican Club and the Harvard Law Republicans. Cellucci, who is also the former U.S. ambassador to Canada, spoke for a little over an hour in Emerson Hall in an event attended by students from colleges throughout the Boston area. His remarks hit on the current presidential race, the state of...

“Serra Palin” theme in honor of Republican VP candidateThe First Dudes are on the ground floor, the Hockey Moms on the second. The coed third floor has been deemed the Last Frontier, and looking down upon them all is the “glass ceiling” skylight. Welcome to Serra Palin, where pit bulls, lipstick and the Republican Party seal abound. Residents and staff of the four-class Stern dorm, as well as a majority of on-campus student political leaders, called the Serra Palin concept risque, but harmless and fun. Some, however, have expressed concerns about the theme’s potential to offend or alienate. “It...

CNN was forced to apologize Thursday after it aired an interview on American Morning with a University of Southern California student whom it identified as Eric Pearlmutter, a College Republican, who said that there was little enthusiastic support for Sen. John McCain's candidacy on campus. Following the broadcast Ben Myers, president of the USC College Republicans, shot back saying that he had never met or seen Pearlmutter at a College Republican meeting and that Pearlmutter is not even a member. "As far as I know, he could be a Democrat," Myers told the Los Angeles Times. On Thursday night a...

If a reporter wanted to test the enthusiasm of College Republicans at a campus for John McCain, one might think that they would look up the officers of the chapter and arrange a few interviews. CNN apparently found that a little too difficult at USC yesterday, so they just stopped the first person who claimed to be a Republican. Andrew Malcolm reports on the aftermath: The president of the College Republicans at the University of Southern California is charging that CNN used a “fake College Republican” in its broadcast report today, claiming there was a lack of enthusiasm for the...

Controversies Crop Up Around Commencement Speaker Selections by Jamal Watson May 5, 2008, 22:24 Earlier this year, NAACP chairman Julian Bond journeyed to the U.S. Supreme Court to interview Justice Clarence Thomas. The event was somewhat historic, in part because Bond — a staunch supporter of affirmative action and other social programs — has long been a critic of the policies and positions espoused by Thomas. But now, both of these historic figures in Black history are the subjects of much scrutiny as they prepare to deliver commencement speeches this month at two East Coast universities. A group of conservative...

A group of Bay Area College Republicans took to the streets of San Jose Friday evening to protest a subject near and dear to them - beer. More to the point, they wanted to rant about a state lawmaker's proposed tax on beer manufacturers that would add nearly $2 to the price of a six-pack as a way to help the state plug its giant budget deficit. "This is a tax on poor students," said Leigh Wolf, 21, of the San Francisco State University Republicans. "They're using a bunch of studies to justify this beer tax, but you don't need...

SAN FRANCISCO -- To the relief of a campus Republican group, the 417,000 students at California State University's 23 institutions no longer face the possibility of discipline for failing to be civil to one another. The change was part of a settlement approved by a federal magistrate in Oakland this week in a lawsuit by the San Francisco State College Republicans, whose members were subjected to a disciplinary hearing after some of them stomped on two flags bearing the name of Allah during an anti-terrorism rally in October 2006. The flags represented the militant organizations Hamas and Hezbollah and had...

SAN FRANCISCO, March 4, 2008—Yesterday, San Francisco State University (SFSU) settled a lawsuit challenging its speech codes by agreeing to modify several unconstitutional policies to make them consistent with the First Amendment. The settlement also requires SFSU to pay damages to members of the university's College Republicans as well as to pay the College Republicans' attorney fees. The lawsuit—part of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education's (FIRE's) Speech Codes Litigation Project—was filed in July 2007 by attorneys from the Alliance Defense Fund (ADF). "Unconstitutional speech codes have been dealt yet another blow," FIRE President Greg Lukianoff said. "This lawsuit...

Chalk one up for the PC guy. No, we're not cheering for political correctness here. I'm talking about those ads for Macintosh computers where the cool Mac guy always gets the better of the frumpy PC fellow. When two college political leaders out in Iowa appeared on the Good Morning America screen today, I immediately suspected a set-up. I couldn't help but think that ABC had intentionally staged the political equivalent of the Mac ads, with the Dem as the Apple dude and the Republican cast as PC guy. In the screencap, that's Atul Nakhasi, head of the U. of...

The College Republicans at Central Michigan University introduced their concept for a "Turn Michigan Red in '08" t-shirt in April of 2007, both as a fundraiser for their origanization and in an effort to show Republican unity heading into the 2008 elections. In the last few years, Central Michigan University has hosted liberal speakers such as Michael Moore, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Thomas Hayden and Wes Clark. There have been no high profile conservative speakers brought to campus in recent history.

Trying to debate with a liberal is probably one of the most maddening things that you will ever attempt to do. Their modus operandi is to cut off the conversation as quickly as possible, usually by declaring your argument "out of bounds," according to their debate rule book. Arguing with a liberal is kind of like arguing with the umpire in baseball, except for the fact someone actually gave the umpire his authority, whereas liberals just think that they were born with theirs. As conservative satirist Ann Coulter once brilliantly noted, "It's difficult to have a simple conversation ... when...

Andrew Breitbart addressed some VIP college Republicans. I guess it was a select group of big college leaders. His speech was actually off-the-record, so I can't report much about it, except to say that it was about his own political awakening, the liberal media, and the soft blacklist against conservatives in Hollywood. His major point is that the media is actually far, far more important a political player than the Democratic Party itself, and, one might say (my words, not his), the Democratic Party is actually merely the Elective Office Subdivision of the greater Liberal Media Party. Harry Reid and...

A controversial week of events, billed as Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, launches at the University of Washington and some 100 other colleges next week — drawing condemnations from Muslim groups here and across the country. The UW College Republicans...say the week is intended to foster awareness of the terrorist threat posed by a small number of extremists within Islam. But some local Muslims say the week fosters Islamophobia and racism and attempts to paint all Muslims as terrorists. Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, launched this year by a recent graduate of Duke University...is intended to "confront the two Big Lies of the political...

Twelve audience members staged a silent walkout yesterday afternoon in the Agassiz Theatre to protest a conservative icon who has, in the past, downplayed the importance of domestic abuse. The demonstration occurred at a speech by Phyllis Schlafly, the woman credited with defeating the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the 1970s. Twenty minutes into the lecture on “The Culture War in the Courts,” as Schlafly criticized judges who upheld the right of public school to require programs emphasizing tolerance for homosexuals, the protesters stood up and silently left the room. “It’s important to listen to viewpoints, but there’s a line,”...

Upset over a college newspaper editorial about President Bush that used an obscenity, conservative students at Colorado State University have started printing their own newspaper. A group calling itself the CSU College Republicans on Monday distributed the Ram Republic, which they are calling the “Conservative Voice of Colorado State University.” Editor Bobby Carson said the group had already been thinking about starting a journal when the campus’s main publication, The Rocky Mountain Collegian, published a four-word editorial that directed a four-letter word at Bush

FORT COLLINS — The student newspaper that stirred up a hornet's nest when it dropped the F-bomb last week drew more fire Monday. (snip) College Republicans at Colorado State University collected more than 300 signatures calling on CSU's Board of Student Communications to fire Editor in Chief David McSwane. (snip) Asked by CNN if the editorial could be characterized as vulgar or sophomoric, McSwane said he "wouldn't entirely disagree." "We wanted people to understand that free speech is something we should talk about," he told CNN. "We felt that this campus, for one reason or another, has been really apathetic....

Trinity University has forced the College Republicans to “modify” their planned “affirmative action” bake sale because they deemed the event too controversial. This comes days after an article in the Trinitonian, Trinity University’s campus newspaper, interviewed both the College Democrats and the College Republicans, who promised and urged debate and discussion on the traditionally apathetic university. This is what I got from their President, Allen Otto: “I was told that my pricing setup was not okay because it seems to place value on life and that such a setup might offend some members of the community. I responded that such...

Ok, the nation has a youtube site. On it, they have a video about the illegal immigration prank hosted by the college republicans at NYU. One of the primary complaints as illustrated at minute 5 is that it isn't good to stage silly thing like this for attention and that the should better publicize events in order to get people to debate. Putting aside how wild the professor gets, watch the video and listen to the points made by the leftists there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4wEUrTCJQY Then compare that with the Code Pink antics, remember the pie-in-the-face antics, and the Columbia U students...

A student Republican club at the University of Vermont has folded, its undoing sealed by financial problems that included payment of a speaker's fee to former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. The College Republicans took out a $7,000 loan from the Student Government Association to help pay the fee for the October 2005 speech by Gingrich. The club failed to repay the loan for more than a year, and after several warnings was decertified last month by the Student Government Association.

There is but one thing more disgusting than the video of campus officials and police standing by as student thugs viciously silenced Minutemen founder Jim Gilchrist and the Columbia University students who assembled to hear him speak. That is the unconscionable attempt by Columbia University administrators and the thugs to blame the blatant assault on the First Amendment on the victims whose rights were violated, Gilchrist and his associate Marvin Stewart, and the College Republicans who hosted the two men on campus. Quite simply, during Gilchrist’s speech, a group of chanting demonstrators suddenly leaped on the stage, unfurled a banner,...

College students have organized clubs on dozens of campuses to defend their Second Amendment rights -- and to have fun with guns. Confronting Academic Liberalism by: Julia A. Seymour, June 16, 2006 One sued her university, another was caricatured in her college newspaper, and the third stood up against school administration and would not back down. The Eagle Forum Summit not only drew student activists, it featured several student speakers who have been waging battles for conservatism in Georgia, Virginia and Utah. Ruth Malhotra spoke first about her experiences at Georgia Tech which included being singled out in class and being threatened with...

WASHINGTON, June 2 /U.S. Newswire/ -- As more and more experts continue to confirm the harmful effects of global warming, the College Republican National Committee is urging its membership to mock the threat by throwing beach parties this summer. The College Republicans actions demonstrate the misplaced priorities and short-sightedness of the future of the Republican Party, according to the Democratic National Committee. As College Democrats continue to fight for issues that young Americans care about like an affordable college education, Republicans continue to push their out of touch agenda. "The College Republicans' beach parties mocking global warming are just another...

Governor Rod Blagojevich could have been snippy. He could have been terse. Instead, he had some fun with a group of College Republicans who came out to his appearance at the University of Illinois yesterday. The group wore blue T-shirts emblazoned with an anti-Blagojevich slogan ("Blagojevich sucks") to protest a decision that could put some of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission's student loan portfolio up for sale. The governor announced the program and touted its potential to provide student aid to more students. Then he looked at the College Republicans and said he wanted a T-shirt. In Blagojevich's words, "I...

When their affirmative action bake sale was shut down, College Republicans at the Georgia Institute of Technology bristled. When university officials ordered parts of their protest signs for “The Vagina Monologues” be painted over with white paint, they fumed. Now, two members of the student organization are suing the public university in Atlanta, alleging the school’s Community Policies repeatedly restricted their free speech and continue to infringe on their rights. The university’s Community Guide for 2005-06 identifies several “Acts of Intolerance” that are considered “unacceptable,” including “any attempt to injure, harm, malign or harass a person because of race, religious...

Since the 1960s, liberal organizations have infested American colleges like NIU. These groups have held numerous rallies and events promoting abortion, gay marriage, anti-American propaganda and countless other left-wing agendas. Thank the good Lord NIU has the College Republicans who constantly battle these liberal forces ... oh wait, never mind. They don't. Since my first encounter with the CR in 2004, I have been consistently let down by the group's lack of interest in promoting conservative issues at NIU. Rather than advancing conservative ideology or standing up to liberal detractors, the leadership of the CR has regularly and cowardly shied...

FRAMINGHAM -- Leaders of the student group that protested a production of"The Vagina Monologues" at Framingham State College on Wednesday say administrators squelched their right to free speech by forcing them into shrinking the size of the picketing. They claim the restrictions placed against them are part of a larger suppression of free speech on campus. "It just seems like the campus is afraid of free speech and the administration wants to do whatever is necessary to avoid bad publicity for the college," said Thomas Lincoln, a member of the College Republicans. In the weeks leading up the protest, school...

2006: Turning point for young conservatives Posted: January 5, 2006 By Hans Zeiger Something big is going on in America, but few are yet aware of it. It is a generational shift comparable to that of the infamous '60s, and it will involve as much revolt and upheaval. In this case, revolution is desperately needed, for the previous revolution has almost destroyed the country. The new revolution will repair the country. Yet 2006 will not be the beginning of the revolution – it has already been gathering steam now for several years. But it will, I predict, commence the vigorous...

Where is the outrage that was manufactured to run Rush Limbaugh off the air? Is it absent because Gumbel is allegedly black? So just picture for a moment, if you will, that you're watching SportsCenter tonight and Dan Patrick says, "The lack of whites in the NBA makes it look like a welfare office." Think that would get buried like Gumbel's comments? For what it's worth, maybe Gumbel should do some research on the emerging face of the GOP.
