Just before the first presidential debate Monday night, a new round of polls has been released that should strike fear into the hearts of Democrats. First off, the national race is looking very tight indeed. Democrats had hoped that Clinton had rebounded after a couple of respected polls last week showed her taking a 6-point lead over Trump. But the newest polls from major outlets — ABC News/Washington Post, Quinnipiac, and Bloomberg — show Clinton up 2, up 1, and down 2 to Trump in a four-way matchup that includes Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. But what’s probably scarier for...

Oh dear Way back in the summer of 2015 - shortly after Donald Trump announced his candidacy - I was asked if he could actually win. My answer was an emphatic yes. While the media was obsessing over his style, I was arguing that people felt the country was dangerously of course. They wanted a candidate who would drop the namby-pamby political schtick and throw some real punches. If Trump could stop getting in his own way, I argued, Hillary’s glass jaw would emerge and her campaign would collapse - just as it did in 2008. My liberal friends laughed....

Local officials in Colorado acknowledged "very serious" voter fraud after learning of votes cast in multiple elections under the named of recently-deceased residents. A local media outlet uncovered the fraud by comparing voting history databases in the state with federal government death records. The good people of Colorado must be smoking something these days. That’s the only explanation for the decision by 156,000 of the state’s more than 3 million registered voters to endorse a November ballot initiative that would create a statewide single-payer health care system. Patients in single-payer systems elsewhere must withstand low-quality care and long wait times. To fund all that failure, they pay sky-high taxes. If Colorado’s voters approve this single-payer measure at the polls this fall, they’ll experience these realities firsthand. Single-payer systems control costs by using government power to ration care. In Canada, where I grew up,...

On Tuesday, the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) formally announced the removal of the lesser prairie chicken from the endangered species protection list. They did not take this step voluntarily; FWS lost a court case last year which ordered the agency to remove the bird from the list. However, even as they complied with the court’s order, the FWS issued a threat that the agency’s land grab under the guise of conservation was not over. In the words of Director Dan Ashe, “Responding to this court ruling by removing the bird from the Federal List does not mean we are...

The leaders of Colorado’s Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA) assure us that if we have patience, long-term investment returns of 7.5 percent will fully fund the program’s promises to retirees over the next 40 years or so. But what if those returns fail to materialize? Moving PERA from the current defined benefit plan to a defined contribution or cash balance-style plan would remove much of the burden of returns falling short from taxpayers, while helping along the long-term financial health of PERA. Coloradans got a taste of that this past year, when PERA achieved a paltry 1.5 percent return on...

Officials told residents of a small Colorado community not to drink or shower in tap water Thursday because one of the town’s wells may have been contaminated with THC, marijuana’s intoxicating chemical. No illnesses have been linked to the water in Hugo, a town of about 730 people some 100 miles southeast of Denver, said Lincoln County Public Health Director Susan Kelly. THC was detected in tests conducted with field kits, although other field tests were negative, sheriff’s Capt. Michael Yowell said. More definitive laboratory tests were underway, he said. …

People who visited Target, King Soopers or any of five other locations in the south Denver metro area are being warned about possible exposure to measles. That’s because a baby with measles was at all of those places sometime last week. Tri-County Health Department Executive Director Dr. John Douglas says measles is the most infectious of infectious diseases. It’s a respiratory infection and spread by coughing and sneezing. According to Douglas, the baby was at spots in Denver, Parker, Lone Tree, Littleton and Highlands Ranch. He says the health department has contacted nearly every person known to have been in...

US Fish and Wildlife Service to target diseased prairie dogs, food for the ferrets, via specially designed drones that shoot the candies in three directions at once The US government is set to unleash drones that fire vaccine-covered M&Ms in a bid to save the endangered black-footed ferret, a species that is facing a plague epidemic across America’s great plains. The US Fish and Wildlife (FWS) has developed a plan to bombard ferret habitat in Montana with the vaccine, which will be administered via specially designed drones that will be able to shoot M&Ms in three directions simultaneously. The vaccines...

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment admits that sixteen refugees were diagnosed with active TB between 2011 and 2014. The admission comes one month after Breitbart News reported ten recently arrived refugees in Colorado were diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB). Between 2011 and 2014, 16 out of 7,754 refugees were diagnosed with active TB at the time of their initial medical screening. That’s one out of every 484 arriving refugees. During that same time period, 67 out of the state’s estimated 4.5 million U.S.-born residents were diagnosed with active TB. That’s one out of every 67,164 U.S.-born residents...
