  • Video: Romney draws massive crowd to remote Colorado location

I'm not sure that there is anything that is directly noteworthy about a massive crowd for a major-party candidate at the end of the presidential cycle. Both candidates will have at least 60 million people voting for them in this election, which means there are going to be lots of people who will show up for these kinds of events. But will they climb hills and mountains and trek out to the middle of nowhere to do it? The Denver Post put together this visually stunning video of Mitt Romney's event at Red Rocks, which also shows the difficulties that...
  • Romney Gains in South and Nationally (Solid South in polling now, plus Colorado and Iowa)

Mitt Romney is now leading in every state in today’s Solid South, including the three – Florida, North Carolina and Virginia – that Barack Obama won in 2008 and where his campaign has expended considerable muscle, money and candidate time. Moreover, the nationwide polls also show a marked shift to Romney since the first debate. The President, however, still maintains leads in most of the battleground states. In Florida, with a substantial 29 electoral votes, virtually all polls now give Romney the lead, with the Real Clear Politics (RCP) average showing a 2.1 point lead for the Republican challenger. The...

Well, I've dropped off my ballot.  Voted a straight Republican ticket, natch.  "No" on retaining all judges (never seen one kicked out, but I can at least try to make them think about job security!).   Ballot issues:  "No" on all except marijuana legalization.  If someone wants to get stoned, go ahead...it's none of my business any more than if they want to get drunk.

DENVER — Colorado voters could be filling out their ballots as early as Tuesday, with 1.95 million ballots now in the mail and on their way to voters across this critical swing state. Of the 3.6 million registered voters in the state, more than half of them are receiving mail ballots this week. According to Secretary of State Scott Gessler’s office, 1,950,185 ballots are being mailed out Monday. Of those, 598,503 are being sent to unaffiliated voters; 673,676 are being sent to registered Republicans; and 654,129 are being mailed to registered Democrats.

You need to read way, way, way down into this National Journal piece to find the key bit, but it’s worth it. Says Jay Cost, “I’ve never seen anybody bury a lede like Major Garrett here.” Let’s bring this treasure chest up to the surface: What also became clear after the dust began to settle from the rumble on Long Island was the electoral map has narrowed and Obama’s team, while conceding nothing publicly, is circling the wagons around Ohio, Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada. Plouffe said that Obama remains strong in all four states, but he would not discuss...

Last night I was informed by my wife that a friend from our church told her that their son went to registar to vote. As he turned in the document, he was asked what was his party affiliation. He told them it was Republican. As he was leaving he heard what sounded like paper tearing. He turned around and asked them to produce his documentation. At first they told him that they could not and then finally after futher prodding admitted that they did in fact destroyed the documentation. He reported them to the election board.
  • Bishop to Biden: Don't take communion in Colorado Springs

The Catholic Diocese of Colorado Springs has thrown down the guantlet to Vice President Joe Biden -- don't come here and expect to partake in Holy Communion. It seems Bishop Michael Sheridan, the person in charge of Catholics in Colorado Springs, doesn't approve of Biden's stance on abortion. The Bishop, following church doctrine, is opposed to abortion. Biden, meanwhile, has said he doesn't support the practice, but doesn't believe it should be illegal. In 2007 Sheridan wrote: "Any Catholic politicians who advocate for abortion, for illicit stem cell research or for any form of euthanasia ipso facto place themselves outside...

WE DIDN’T endorse Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy four years ago, but after he was elected we congratulated him on his victory and expressed our desire that his presidency would be successful. But soon after his inauguration, it became clear that his talk of “post-partisanship” and governmental transparency was just that: talk. He, along with then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, rammed through Obamacare with almost no input from congressional Republicans. Recall Ms. Pelosi’s comment that “We have to pass this so you can see what’s in it.”

If businessman Coors has a good night on Nov. 6, so will Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, likely not only in Colorado but nationwide. Colorado is looking like a state that is the national average, perhaps a tick or two rightward, according to Sean Trende, a savvy number-cruncher and Yale-trained political scientist for the website RealClearPolitics. “So if Romney is winning Colorado, it probably means he is headed for a decent night,” Trende said of the relatively new electoral trend of a Western state signaling a presidential win. If Romney wins here comfortably, that probably means a national win on...

LAIRD, Colo. – This small Great Plains town is the terminus of a journey across the Rocky Mountain State on U.S. 34, greeting travelers from Nebraska and bidding farewell to Coloradoans. On either side of the highway stand two slightly oversized “Romney for President” signs. In the distance, in a town boasting 47 people, a stone octagonal house sits forlornly, its former glory faded by neglect and the elements. This highway and U.S. 36, passing through Jefferson and Arapahoe counties, give way to a state not at all like the one often envisioned, politically or economically, from afar. The 479...

As the now-bankrupt stimulus loan recipient Abound Solar filed for Chapter 7 (liquidation) bankruptcy in early July thanks largely to its defective modules, theDepartment of Energy still praised the company’s work as “innovative” and cost competitive, all while it blamed Abound’s failure on China for dumping underpriced panels on the market. And now, despite the fact that Abound no longer exists, DOE is still withholding public information about the company because it claims it would harm the inactive business’s competitive edge by disclosing trade secrets. The Daily Caller reported last week that the company sold defective or underperforming products, and...

Native American Indians from western United States found to have genetic mutation typical of Ashkenazi Jews; connection may date back to time of Christopher Columbus A population of Native American Indians from the US state of Colorado has been found to have a genetic mutation typical of Ashkenazi Jews. The finding suggests the presence of common roots that date back to the days of Christopher Columbus. According to RT news, the so-called “Ashkenazi mutation” is a deleterious modification in BRCA1 gene which increases risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. Researchers from the Sheba (Tel Hashomer) Medical Center in Israel...

First, recent polls showing him losing were on the verge of becoming self-fulfilling prophesies by discouraging his supporters and inspiriting Obama's. Romney, unleashing his inner wonk about economic matters, probably stabilized public opinion and prevented a rush to judgment as early voting accelerates. Second, Romney needed to be seen tutoring Obama on such elementary distinctions as that between reducing tax rates (while simultaneously reducing, by means-testing, the value of deductions) and reducing revenues, revenues being a function of economic growth, which the rate reductions could stimulate. Third, Romney needed to rivet the attention of the electorate, in which self-identified conservatives...

A new poll shows Mitt Romney flipping a 5-point deficit in Colorado before the first presidential debate, which was held on Wednesday in Denver, to a 3.5-point advantage later in the week — another signal that Mr. Romney's comparatively strong debate performance has started to translate into rising poll numbers for the Republican. A poll from Gravis Marketing, conducted Oct. 3-4, shows Mr. Romney with a 49.4 percent to 45.9 percent lead over Mr. Obama. The president had held nearly a 5-point lead in a poll conducted Sept. 25, at 50.2 percent to 45.5 percent. Mr. Obama's job approval numbers...

This 1957 western features decorated WWII vets and patriots Jimmy Stewart and Audie Murphy as brothers on the opposite sides of the law. I miss patriotic, pro-American actors like Stewart and Murphy. Also features, Hugh Beaumont(a/k/a Ward Cleaver, one of TV's best on-screen dads) as a railroad tycoon.

45.5%. What happened? In terms of the numbers, Obama saw a decrease of 4.4% among “Verylikely Obama” voters, an increase of 1.2% among “Likely Obama” voters, and a 1.1% decreasein “Somewhat likely voters”. On the other side, Romney saw a 0.2% decline in “Very likelyRomney voters,” a 1.3% increase among “Somewhat likely Romney” voters and a 2.7% increaseamong “Likely Romney” voters. Overall, it looks as if the debate shifted voters more away fromthe “very likely” category towards center. Interestingly, the percentage of “Undecided” wentfrom 4.3% to 4.8%.

DENVER—President Barack Obama, stung by bad reviews in his first debate of the 2012 White House race, joked that the "very spirited fellow" onstage with him was "not the real Mitt Romney." Obama also mocked the former Massachusetts governor's pledge to cut government subsidies for PBS as "finally getting tough on Big Bird." "When I got onto the stage, I met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be Mitt Romney," he told cheering supporters here. "But it couldn't have been Mitt Romney, because the real Mitt Romney has been running around the country for the last year promising $5...
