WBNS TV in Columbus, Ohio is reporting a mysterious powder has been found in a "business sized" envelope in Downtown Columbus. It was delivered to a building and it came from an Ohio doctor. Supposively there was some writing that looked like Arabic writing... I have no more details to report because I'm at work. I just got this from my 14 yr. old daughter.

America was founded in order to destroy Islam? Statements like that give the anti-jihad movement a wingnut patina that, of course, ABC is happy to perpetuate in this anti-McCain hit piece, which breezes by the fact that his campaign has strongly disavowed these statements. But when McCain's campaign strongly disavows these statements, is he disavowing them all -- including the manifestly true statement that some Muslims quite obviously intend to conquer and Islamize the world? Is McCain completely unaware of the 1991 Muslim Brotherhood document, An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood in North America," in...

The attack on the mailman was prefaced with a request to bum a cigarette. Carrier Greg Nelson later decided that the question thrown at him by a group of boys as he delivered mail Thursday on the East Side likely was an attempt to size him up. Within minutes, the youths chased, assaulted and robbed Nelson in what the U.S. Postal Service said is only the third such attack on a mail carrier in Columbus in the past 30 years. "They didn't see me as a mailman, they saw me as an opportunity," said Nelson, 45, who has delivered mail...

FBI officials have been asked to investigate an attack last week on attendees of a mosque in Columbus, Ohio, to determine if it was a hate crime. An attorney with Ohio's Council on American-Islamic Relations asked the FBI to look into the incident at the Masjid AsSahaaba mosque to determine what motivated several men to throw rocks at people leaving the mosque, the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch said Wednesday. An initial report from Columbus police identified Friday's incident as a "biased attack on Muslim men leaving the mosque after prayer during the Ramadan season." Yet the mosque's imam, Abdiiaziz Abdi, opposed...

Gun-control agitators were overjoyed when the City Council in Columbus, Ohio, unanimously passed an ordinance this month banning ownership of semi-automatic firearms. Councilmen said the ordinance will reduce gun violence, but the ban is much more likely to enable violent crime. Semi-automatic firearms are hardly the public-safety threat they're made out to be. They are used in a tiny fraction of crimes and always by criminals who don't obey gun laws. As always, taking weapons out of the hands of law-abiding citizens will make them more vulnerable to gun-toting criminals. Moreover, the assault-weapons ban passed by Congress in 1994 never...

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The National Rifle Association announced Monday that it would not hold its 2007 national convention in Columbus as planned. The announcement came one week after City Council passed an assault weapons ban, NBC 4's Kyle Anderson reported. NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre said Columbus residents were misled, if not lied to, by supporters of the ban, which was passed unanimously by City Council last week, Anderson reported. He said holding the convention in Columbus would severely restrict the exhibit. NRA officials said the group would return once the state legislature enacts a pre-emption that would overturn...

Ban Could Cost City Convention The recently-enacted assault weapons ban in the city of Columbus might wind up costing the capital city the 2007 National Rifle Association convention. City leaders were holding their breath Friday night, wondering if one of the biggest conventions planned to hit Columbus will cancel. The NRA announced in May that it chose Columbus over two other cities for its 2007 convention. But now the organization is planning another announcement scheduled for Monday that could change its plans. On Friday, the NRA would neither confirm nor deny that it plans to leave Columbus. There is speculation...

Columbus plan likely would face court test The Columbus City Council will try to pass an assault-weapons ban by the end of July that officials think can withstand legal challenges that shot down two earlier proposals. And though the National Rifle Association said such a ban could force the organization to consider moving its national convention out of Columbus in 2007, the proposal’s sponsor said the ban would be in the city’s best interest. "They’re not going to dictate the policies of this city," said Columbus City Councilman Michael C. Mentel, who sponsored the legislation. He expects the council’s full...

Bush Rejects Bin Laden Tape, Hits Kerry Fri Oct 29, 2004 08:28 PM ET By Steve Holland COLUMBUS, Ohio (Reuters) - President Bush vowed on Friday the United States will not be intimidated by a pre-election warning from Osama Bin Laden and called Democrat John Kerry "shameful" for accusing him of bungling the search for the al Qaeda leader. The bin Laden tape eerily offered a flashback to the Sept. 11 events that changed Bush's presidency on a day he was recalling the emotions of the moment. It also served to remind Americans that the man Bush once wanted "dead...

I was one of the fortunate ones to attend the President's campaign event in Columbus today. Pres. Bush was outstanding; he was on stage for 90 minutes. The first part of his presentation included many of the campaign things he has previously said. The President obviously received the best response when he spoke of things related to national security, including 911, the military, first responders, and the action/approach he has taken to protect America. Comments about keeping families strong and the tax cuts were also received well, as was the rest of his speech. The second part was when he...

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A federal magistrate on Wednesday ordered a man charged with plotting to blow up a shopping mall to be transferred to a federal psychiatric facility to determine if he is mentally competent. The evidence Magistrate Mark Abel used to determine why Nuradin Abdi should be sent to the facility was not disclosed publicly. Authorities have accused Abdi, 32, of plotting to blow up a mall with admitted al-Qaida member Iyman Faris, who is now imprisoned for never-acted-on plans to sabotage the Brooklyn Bridge. The indictment against Abdi, a Somali national, was unsealed Monday. The FBI said no...

Faris was already serving a prison term on charges of scouting targets for al-Qaida. U.S. Attorney Gregory Lockhart says a terrorism task force watching the third...
