  • (vanity) Need help transferring contents of an SD card created on a Windows PC to a MacBook Air

    11/30/2016 5:52:29 AM PST · by ETL · 66 replies
Hi all, I'm trying to transfer some files I have on a micro-SD card to a friend's MacBook Air. I used my Windows-based PC to fill the card and when I insert it into the Mac the Mac doesn't recognize it (it doesn't show up on the desktop or by clicking "Find"). I talked to someone from BestBuy's GeekSquad on the phone last night and they said that Macs can't read cards unless they're formatted in something called "Fat 32". They said I could reformat the card while it's inserted in the Mac, or, if I recall correctly, on a...

Running Windows 7 with IE 11. On this site all the fonts are very small making it hard to read. Yes I can zoom to make it readable but that makes all the other sites too large. I'm logged in and tried using sidebar config but no joy. Help would be appreciated.

My Toshiba Satellite L305 has crapped out. It did not come with the reinstallation disk. I can get a new hard drive but I need an O/S. It is too old to run Windows 7, which I can't really afford. Does anyone know where I can buy a Windows Vista Home Premium (or sumtin') disk or product key for a good price?

OK, so I am NOT one of FR's photoshop artists! For years, all I have used has been Broderbund's PrintShop that came free with something else I was buying. For years I used it to make birthday cards, banners...We moved recently and I need to make some changes to my husband's business card. Since I got a new computer around Christmas, I tried to install Print Shop, just to find out that when I click on "install" nothing happens, absolutely nothing! There seems to be dozens of free software that can be downloaded to make business cards, I just don't...

HELP PLEASE. My laptop computer suddenly went blue screen of death with a message that some error was detected and windows was being disabled (or shut down) to protect my computer. I rebooted, same thing. I unplugged, pulled the battery and waited, then plugged it all back in and again, same message. I tried to start in safe option came up to "repair your computer", I chose that option. It says "windows is installing files", then the "microsoft windows" with the scrolling lights, then the same blue screen message. So, I tried in safe mode again, only choosing safe...

I have kind of done this before. I have been working to delete a virus all morning on this borrowed computer. I think I have succeeded in the main. The problem is the virus did cause some problems. Some exe files will not execute. It is probably a registry value that has been changed. This is a BORROWED computer. I was using it when it apparently got infected. So I have a duty to fix this. It an an EEPC netbook running Windows XP. So the registry value at exe in the command line should be what? SO how do...

Running Windows XP on Dell GX-280. Have Realtek RTL series wireless internet USB plug installed. When I reboot the computer, the wireless connection fails and I have to re-enter the network setup and re-enter the wireless password key again to reconnect. Sometimes several times. Hi! It's me again, the technologically-challenged mom. My Dell Dimension has been warning me for weeks now that it is about to go to the big junkyard in the sky. Since it is 4 years old, my husband is insisting that I get me a new PC. Problem is, righ after Christmas shopping, the last thing I want to do is to spend more money. But then, I can't get much done with a PC that keeps freezing every 10-15 min! I have been pricing PCs. Originally I wanted to get another Dell, so as to use my monitor, mouse......

Last week I got hit with a nasty set of viruses, malware, and trojans. One of the first things I did, was to check out Freerepublic to get some free advice. Unfortunately, it didn't help much, so I've decided to try and add some value here for folks that have something similar happen to them. My problems began, by using Google searches for information pertaining to the Japan Earthquake. Now, I suspect that part of these internet virus scams, is to embed the trouble in searches that are very popular at any given time. I took the advice of this...

My Firewall/Antivirus detected an infection of the "!A2" and says it's: A malicious trojan horse or bot that may represent security risk for the compromised system and/or its network environment. I tried to block it and delete the infected files, but that just set off an attack against my computer, which caused me to reload from backup several times. How do I get rid of this nightmare, and prevent it from coming back?
