UNITED NATIONS - The U.N. Security Council should congratulate North Korea for its nuclear test instead of passing "useless" resolutions or statements, North Korea's U.N. ambassador said Monday. Pak Gil Yon told reporters he was proud of the North Koreans who conducted the test, and said the Security Council ought to be, too. Asked if the North planned any more tests, Pak said: "That will be enough. You don't think so?" The council was holding a meeting about the test, and several diplomats warned of tough measures, possibly including the threat of sanctions. "It will be better for the...

I congratulate Prime Minister Maliki on the formation of Iraq's new unity government. Iraqis now have a fully constitutional government, marking the end of a democratic transitional process in Iraq that has been both difficult and inspiring. This broadly representative unity government offers a new opportunity for progress in Iraq. The new government reflects Iraq's diversity and opens a new chapter in that country's history. Iraq's new leaders know the period ahead will be filled with great challenge. But they also know that they -- and their great country -- will not face them alone. The United States and freedom-loving...

The White House congratulated Canada's Conservative Party and its leader, Stephen Harper, on their election victory and promised to bolster bilateral relations. "We congratulate the Conservative Party and Stephen Harper on their victory," said Scott McClellan, chief spokesman for US President George W. Bush. "The United States and Canada have a strong and bilateral relationship, and we look forward to strengthening our relations and working with the new government," said McClellan. Harper's party has promised a crackdown on government corruption after chasing the scandal-plagued Liberals from power after 12 years in Monday's election, which saw the conservatives fall short of...

Well, he went on to AIT and finished again in the top 10% but this time he was awarded the "Iron Soldier" award which is given to one individual who excelled physically,...

It's something I've thought of doing for a while now, and I'm so grateful that the opportunity came up for me. You may love us; you may hate us, but wish me luck, because I'm about to embark on a journey that I won't soon forget. Thanks for reading, NASBWI

PARIS (Reuters) - It started as an answer to leaky pens carried by American soldiers during World War Two, was perfected and made popular by an Italian-born baron and has written its way into history as the world's biggest-selling pen. More than half a century after honing a cheap version of the ballpoint pen, Bic, the French firm which built an empire out of making things to be thrown away, said Thursday it had sold its 100 billionth -- 100,000,000,000th --- disposable ballpoint. The group started small after the war and now has annual revenues of around 1.4 billion euros,...

For the second time in my six years as a FReeper, I am posting with a glass of champagne next to the computer. And boy! am I smiling. There are, of course, tons of details, but I'll wait for the questions, and please ask them! One significant note (and most mortifying moment of my interview last month) -- I was asked what other names I used. He meant this one, and asked, "What exactly is 'AnnaZ'?" "My alter ego?", I feebly suggested. "I'm just going to put it down as your stage name," he said. : | Shoot me now.

WASHINGTON — The White House has put out word daily of calls flooding in from around the world to congratulate President Bush on his re-election victory. But somehow, Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero just hasn't been able to get his call past the switchboard. Zapatero phoned Bush not long after his Nov. 2 win, but wasn't put through to the president. Now, more than a week after the voting, the two leaders still have not hooked up. The White House explanation signaled something of a cold shoulder toward the Spanish leader, who angered the administration by withdrawing troops...
