  • Conservative media gets even bigger under Trump

Some fascinating data points I picked up while investigating how partisan media has changed under Trump: Right-wing killing it on Facebook and online: In studies done for Axios by Newswhip, which measures social media engagement, and Chartbeat, which measures website engagement, it is conservatives — not liberals — who have seen the bigger explosion of new, high-traffic sites and pages taking off in the Trump era. While everyone obsesses about Trump on Twitter, his Facebook fan base was much larger and probably more consequential in shaping public opinion. (Roughly half of U.S. adults say they get news from Facebook, per...

The angry Left looks to punish conservative media for Trump’s victory Someone behind an anonymous Twitter account is trying to destroy the influential conservative Breitbart News website by smearing it as “racist” – and he’s already scared at least 47 advertisers away from Breitbart. In the current atmosphere of left-wing hysteria over the surprise election of Donald Trump as president, this blacklisting project has already earned an impressive return on investment. Breitbart is a target of the wrath of social justice warriors because it reports the truth about the Left and it used to be run by Stephen Bannon, now...

A key Federal Election Commission Republican warned Wednesday that liberals are moving aggressively to "amend the First Amendment" so that conservatives are silenced and businesses are chased "out of the democracy." In some the toughest criticism leveled at Democrats, Commissioner Lee E. Goodman said that the attack started once the Tea Party changed American politics in the 2010 election and now dominates the politics of the Left. "It has triggered a very aggressive movement by people to amend the First Amendment, left intellectuals have placed it on the table," Goodman said on Boston's Howie Carr show.

Over the past 28 years there has been a sea change in the media. Not only has the monopoly of the so-called mainstream media been shattered but the phenomenal rise of conservative media has been truly stunning. It began in 1988 with the national syndication of Rush Limbaugh and his distinctive brand of conservative political commentary espoused in an entertaining and captivating way, which opened the flood gates for other conservatives, together with Rush, to dominate the talk radio airwaves. In the 1990’s the internet, through hundreds of websites, gave voice to journalists to report stories either ignored or downplayed...

...At this very critical juncture in our history, while our nation and our liberties have been ravaged by the Obama years, and life as we know it in this nation hangs precariously by a thread, Fox News, Limbaugh, Levin, and Hannity have gambled with our future, knowing we have no collateral to back up the game. For months, these fair weather friends of conservatism have heaped slovenly, starry-eyed adoration on Donald Trump. Trump - that gilded toad, who's conservative history began at about the time he decided to run as a Republican has been shoved in our faces from the...

The support of conservative talk radio has been a boost for the Texas senator in his tussle with Trump. NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.- Donald Trump rarely misses when he swings hard at a rival. But when it comes to his questioning of Ted Cruz's eligibility to run for president, Cruz has a formidable defense that draws on the backing of not only legal scholars but conservative media. Confidence in the strength of his position came across clearly Thursday night as Cruz and Trump squared off on the issue for the first time in person at the Fox Business debate, with Cruz...

The advent of the Rush Limbaugh show brought a ray of light into a dark world In a recent article in the National Review Rush Limbaugh, the God Father of conservative media recently catalogued how he not only birthed but also nurtured the growth of an alternative voice alongside what he aptly calls the “state-controlled media.” I can remember the first time I heard him in 1986. I was so excited to hear someone say what I was thinking. For years I had felt like I was all alone. Outside my wife, a few friends and relatives, I didn’t think...

Megyn Kelly is having a very good month. And we’re not talking from a ratings perspective, either. Comparing Kelly to her competition at 9:00 PM is now a pointless exercise. The May numbers show her beating CNN’s taped programming (Bourdain, Rowe, etc.) and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow many nights by a 3-to-1 ratio or more. It’s actually been that way for some time and Kelly’s dominance appears to only be getting stronger. All of that said, what this column will focus on is all the headlines/buzz the program is generating long after the 44-year-old Albany Law grad signs off at 10:00...

In case you weren’t already aware: Mediaite contributing columnist Joe Concha has been hosting a brand-new show for Newsmax TV, called The Daily Wrap. This week we were pleased to hear that the show has been given a weeknight primetime slot of 7:00 p.m. ET. The show is a one-hour panel setting, featuring Concha–who has appeared many times as a pundit on Fox, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC and Fox Business– as the main host alongside a left-leaning co-host, Rick Ungar, a Democratic consultant and Sirius XM radio host. The pair are joined nightly by two other panelists, typically including attorney Heather...

Government officials, reacting to the growing voice of conservative news outlets, especially on the internet, are angling to curtail the media's exemption from federal election laws governing political organizations, a potentially chilling intervention that the chairman of the Federal Election Commission is vowing to fight. “I think that there are impulses in the government every day to second guess and look into the editorial decisions of conservative publishers,” warned Federal Election Commission Chairman Lee E. Ask Siri: “What is CPAC 2013? There is an app in the iTunes store called CPAC 2013. You must know something about this event!” Siri is a smart woman. She responds: “CPAC 2013 is the largest annual gathering of conservative activists in the country and is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Washington, D.C., March 14-16, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center. CPAC’s organizers expect to meet or exceed last year’s attendance record—meaning over 10,000 activists. This is a big feat considering that this is a year after an election where conservatives suffered some major losses. This indicates that...

It is really getting old to hear liberal politicians and pundits complaining about conservative media as being destructive, as if the country would be better off returning to the halcyon days of the monolithic liberal media. That seems to be the view of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who complained about "the right-wing control of the American media, particularly starting with Fox News." During a discussion on HuffPost Live, Kennedy said, "Ninety-five percent of talk radio in our country is right-wing ... so a whole section of our country that's what they're hearing." "Twenty-two percent of Americans," continued Kennedy, "say their...

David Frum blames the media for Mitt Romney's loss. Not the liberal media, of course--we are talking David Frum, after all. No, Frum blames the conservative media, or as he calls it, "the conservative entertainment complex." Frum touted his upside-down take on the media during a Morning Joe appearance today while promoting his instant e-book, "Why Romney Lost." Joe Scarborough liked the line so much he asked Frum to repeat it. Frum refused to name names, saying he does so in his book, but there's little doubt whom he was targeting. View the video here.

Until last Tuesday, the president's media personality cult felt certain that Obama's re-election was in the bag. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's triumph over media and union forces received scant notice compared to manufactured exit polls claiming that Wisconsinites favored Obama over the GOP's Mitt Romney by 51-44 percent. However, it is clear that Walker's victory foreshadows major problems for the president, his party and big labor. It turns out that 38 percent of Wisconsin's private-sector union households voted in support of Walker. This caused some in the media to let go of their post-recall denial and face an uncomfortable truth, "Barack...

Do you ever get the feeling that Rush and Hannity don't really care who wins, just as long as their dollars keep rolling in from us tea party saps. Besides Mark Levin, what prominent talker has gone out on a limb and endorsed true conservative candidates? Everyday we have to here Hannity interview the John McCains of the world. If he truly believed in the conservative movement, wouldn't he be out there trumpeting Richard Mourdock and Don Stenberg like Levin is? As for Rush, he is more interested in commercializing the tea party movement with his "Two if by tea"...

We awoke today with news that Mitt Romney’s nomination has now risen to nearly 57% of the GOP nationally, and that in the most fervent conservative state in the country, South Carolina, Tea Party “membership” has dropped from 28% to 11%. For weeks the supposed conservative media pushed either a disingenuous, social conservative statist hypocrite, or a liberal socialist in conservative clothing ignoring the only man that expanded conservatism nationally and balanced the budget 4 consecutive years with a liberal Democrat President and an overwhelming RINO Republican majority. I have something to say about that. Am I damn sure ain’t...

Newt Gingrich better hope voters who lapped up his delicious hits on the “elite media” and liberals don’t read the Drudge Report this morning. Or the National Review. Or the American Spectator. Or Ann Coulter. If they do, Gingrich comes off looking like a dangerous, anti-Reagan, Clintonian fraud. It’s as if the conservative media over the past 24 hours decided Gingrich is for real, and they need to come clean about the man they really know before it’s too late.

I'm just curious. For right now, the only state that I'm aware of that has conservative media in it is Illinois. They have the conservative magazine of illinois. Perhaps New Hampshire, with the Manchester Union Leader. But is that conservative in the editorial pages only? Or is it conservative in it's news coverage as well. Anybody wish to name their states and list their conservative outlets of choice?(if applicable)

Media Bias: Not long after pro football welcomed a convicted felon back on the playing field, Rush Limbaugh is dropped for his opinions from a group seeking to buy an NFL franchise. Won't someone throw a flag? When even Keith Olbermann says back off, you know the politically correct critics of the conservative icon and megaradio talk host's proposed part ownership of the St. Louis Rams are guilty of piling on. The prospect of the leading conservative voice in America participating in the purchase of a football team sent the liberal elites into cardiac arrest and into a frenzied campaign...
