There's an untranslatable word in German, weltschmerz, which describes many primitives to a tee; not all of them, but primitives such as Doug's ex-wife, Pedro Picasso, Oscar Wilde (the "Cyrano" primitive), the grazing primitive (the "jgraz" primitive), the Bostonian Drunkard, the packing mama primitive (the "Pachamama" primitive), the skumbag primitive, the kaput primitive (the "kpete" primitive), the Swanson's TV dinner primitive (the "DavidSwanson" primitive), the carpetbagging maternal ancestress (the "Raven" primitive), &c., &c., &c. The closest one can come to weltschmerz is "a gloomy, romanticized world-weary sadness, experienced most often by privileged youth." Of course, youth left these primitives some...

It's the end of the world as we know it (The Freeper who cried "wolf")

Well, here we are, October 6, 2008. Less than a month before the most important election of our lifetime. For months now we've been hearing about, fearing, and even predicting a host of various October surprises. Well, it looks like we couldn't even wait till October. For in the past two weeks we have witnessed the "mortgage meltdown", "the Wall Street bailout", the first-ever deployment of a regular Army unit to respond to civil unrest, and arrogant mocking of the US by Putin, Chavez and Achmadinejad, complete with Russian wargames coming within a few miles of the Alaskan border. Meanwhile...

If This Thread is a Waste of Time, why did you log onto it?

I see it so often that someone logs onto a thread and proclaims it to be a waste of time that it begs the question: Why log onto the thread at all? Isn't it by definition a waste of time? We saw that a lot on Duncan Hunter threads, now on the certifigate threads. I'm sure there are some religion threads that would qualify. So I offer this thread where Freepers can log on and let other freepers which ones they consider to be a waste of time.
Treason: By Design or Negligence?

As the economy teeters on the edge of the abyss, certain politicians in Washington whose fervent efforts served to create this crisis, now stand before cameras with smiling faces as redeemers and saviors. Aided by a propagandist media, the perpetrators assign the blame for the failure on the very ones who tried to stop them, whom they resisted. In the end, the honest, hard working, productive citizens suffer the hurt and are given the burden of revival to shoulder. On the other hand, guilty parties walk away from the table with more wealth and power while increasing their strangle hold...

Yet More Proof that Cynthia McKinney is a Lunatic

FoxNews.com reports: Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney, known for her provocative statements when she was a congresswoman from Georgia, accused the Department of Defense this week of using Hurricane Katrina to cover up the slaughter of 5,000 prisoners. At a news conference in Oakland, Calif., on Sunday, McKinney claimed the Pentagon authorized the execution of the prisoners...

Did Bill Ayers Write Dreams From My Father? Very likely.

Did Bill Ayers write Dreams From My Father? Prior to 1990, when Barack Obama contracted to write Dreams From My Father, he had written very close to nothing. As an undergraduate, Obama had written what he justifiably calls some “very bad poetry.” He published nothing under his own name in The Harvard Law Review, where he served as an editor and as president. And after leaving Harvard, he published nothing in its review or in any law journal. Then, in 1995, this untested 33 year-old produced what Time Magazine has called--with a straight face-- “the best-written memoir ever produced by...

As much as we like to think otherwise, human behavior is fairly predictable, and sometimes ironically so. This time around, it's been Obama supporters responding to my SFGate column on Palin Derangement Syndrome with, well, Palin Derangement Syndrome. The avalanche of e-mails I received (not to mention the 913 comments at SFGate) was evidence of the collective nervous breakdown that has met Sarah Palin's arrival on the political scene. It was all there: the condescension, elitisim, sexism, paranoia, personal...

Obama Conundrum: If a total stranger can do it, then why not Obama?

I'm writing this brief post to put into perspective what it all means when Obama cannot (rather refuses to) release his genuine birth certificate to put all rumors to rest. The time for surprizes has long past. Obama is not going to magically produce it, saying "Gotcha," because that would have been done in response to Berg's suit. You can take this to the bank, that when Obama is forced show his "vault" long-form birth certificate, the whole world will know that the COLB image was a forgery from Day One, as well as the phony FactCheck photos.
Opinion: Is it an Axis? (Iran, China, Russia, and the Iranian Deyanat/possible nukes)

Evidence - though odd - is arising that there are nuclear and militaristic agreements between Iran and China. Despite the weird way in which evidence came to light, the end result is the same; an alliance of nations averse to US demands is forming. A large number of Somali pirates who participated in the hijacking of an Iranian merchant vessel on August 21st, 2008 have died. The pirates reported both hair loss and skin burns – two symptoms of radiation exposure – and “fell gravely ill ‘within days’ of boarding” the Iranian ship.
Breaking: New Jersey Assembly tries to make homeschooling laws worst in the country

The United States of America is pretty friendly towards homeschoolers. Many early presidents were homeschooled. Every homeschooling case brought up has been defended by the courts, federally and locally, and Congress (Wisconsin v. Yoder, California’s In re Rachel L., etc). Now, though, it looks like opponents of homeschooling are trying a new method: the state legislatures. New Jersey’s pending A3123 is a perfect example.
